Where exactly should we send update letters/LOI? Is it to the main evms admissions office email or is it to the dean only? THanks

I would send (and address the letter) it to

Dr. Michael Solhaug
c/o Office of Admissions
(Office of Admissions address here)

As far as anyone knows, aside from those two guys in February who posted (sorry boys, you don't count!) has there been any waitlist movement at all here? I'm specifically interested in the in-state list. Thanks!

I must admit, I'm not feeling the love on the waitlist since I didn't get an invite.....

Don't feel badly about not getting invited to Preview (other than missing a fun party) - there were dozens of admitted students (myself included) who weren't invited last year. I'm assuming it's because I was about as out-of-state as you can get and unlikely to attend 😉, but it's not a big deal... if you do get accepted, your classmates who attended will likely be nice enough to distribute any "insider info" they received at Preview.

So, I was placed in the top third of the OOS waitlist in November. What would you guys say my chances of getting a spot are? Anyone know how far down they went on the OOS waitlist last year? Thanks in advance.

how did you find out your placement on the waitlist? Should be hearing back this week or the next, had interview 3/16 and am OOS.

I called. It was months ago, though, so I don't remember who I spoke to.

A little off-topic from the subject of admissions, but I was wondering if anybody knew what percentage (or ball park estimate) of students from EVMS get placed into the residencies they want?

Only had three people who had to scramble this year (one of whom was an expected scramble). The other two scrambled successfully. The other one will finish remediation and is expected to land a pre-residency spot upon successful remediation.

Short of asking each individual senior, that's about as close to your intended answer as you're going to get.

Word from faculty and seniors is that our students generally get their first or second choice. Again, depends on specialty, as well as the individual. Example: say that person X matched at ABC program. While you (or someone else) may think that ABC program sucks for XYZ reason, person X may have ranked ABC program #1 for those same reasons.

Again, short of asking each senior, this is the best answer you're going to get. ROLs are guarded very closely.

That's exactly my point. While a match list gives a certain amount of insight, it's not the same as if the school polled the senior class and asked how many matched at their #1, #2, #3, etc., program, which is what the poster asked.

Thanks for updating your answer to give us more information, though - that's also a valuable number!

I think the ideal case would be to have the # of scrambles, the number of those who were successful, the match list, and the % matching at their first choice, second choice, etc., to get the most complete picture.

got waitlist letter today, OOS. will be calling tomorrow. I've heard alot of talk about LOIs and stuff, does the admin office help with guidance on this, or is it generally understood to send it to the dean and the admission board member from the interview?

I didn't receive any help from admissions, I just sent in a letter addressed to the Associate Dean.

I have been emailing update/interest letters to Dr. Solhaug... is that less effective/formal than using snailmail? When I spoke with him he said "email me blah blah" so I figured he prefers emails... I'm starting to freak out over little details 🙁 🙁 C'mon waitlist, move!

at preview weekend dr solhaug said they expect maybe some movement in the next few weeks but not a lot until may 15th then they expect it to be pretty fluid until like mid june. but that's just predictions based on guesses lol so he said even though this is what they expect they have no idea what will happen and when motion will occur

admissions said either way was good.

Thank you for the info 😀 May 15........that's such a long time from now

Anyone have thoughts on moving "down" the waitlist? I haven't called to check my spot since the fall. Is it possible to move down the waitlist as more people get added to it? Anyone heard of this?

top 1/3 of waitlist, OOS, interviewed 3/16. Sent LOI to Dr. Solhaug. approved for full-ride/scholarship from outside sources.... keeping fingers freaking crossed!!!

Whaa? Full ride? I would so jump on that! Congrats, that's impressive.

are you willing to sell your soul? It's called Navy HPSP, comes with a service commitment, but gives full tuition, monthly stipend, etc. I didn't really want to be looking at $300k of debt after residency. 4 year payback, with some other things tacked on. As OOS, EVMS is very expensive. If I'm in off the waitlist and accepted, I'll be more than happy to spring for coffee more than a few times when school starts.

Ah yes. I completely see your point now. No, I am not willing to sell my soul. Good call.

I'm right there with you. AFHPSP.

good, we can split coffee runs!

I was kidding about selling your soul. I just toured the NNMC last weekend, world class medical facility, barely saw a uniform, amazing resources, a full spectrum of patients. I dig socialized medicine, so it'll be nice to practice it.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any idea what fraction of the OOS waitlist ultimately gets accepted? Have people in the middle 1/3 been accepted in recent years? After looking in last years thread, I couldn't find anyone in the middle 1/3rd of the waitlist who said they were ultimately accepted (even the students accepted in July...).

Current M1's, do you know if any of your classmates were initially ranked in the middle third or lower on the WL (IS or OOS)?

Thanks a bunch!!! Good luck to all!!!

I'm pretty sure there was someone from sdn who got accepted from middle 1/3. There was also a dedicated thread for getting accepted of the EVMS waitlist. Maybe it's time to resurrect? 😀

Well, we see the person all the time on EVMS forum that got accepted from the middle 1/3, it is are own phantomx87.

does anyone know when they start sending out scholarship offers? I couldn't find anything on the previous year's thread.

Maybe it would be best to just move the list here??!

I thought it would be helpful to make a list of those of us who have been waitlisted so we can keep track of who is in and who is not when the wl moves instead of having to ask the same questions over and over

Please Copy/Paste the instructions and the list in your response and just add your info in the order below. If you have an update later on just copy paste again and put your update next to your name (dont add your name again)

Name: date interviewed (I) , date waitlisted/found out waitlisted (WL), which 1/3 of the waitlist, phone interview with dean PI(if applicable), updates sent (if yes, how many, when), date accepted, how you received the news, will you be matriculating... obviously you can just leave out any info you don't feel comfortable sharing

here is the "list" so far 😀

1. DrSmday: I 12/17/10; WL 1/7/11; Top 1/3; PI 1/20/11; Update Letter in Jan, Intent letter in March, Date Accepted ______
2. Quaero: I 12/08/10; WL 1/5/11; Top 1/3; PI none; Update Letter in Jan, Intent letter in March,

Maybe we should put whether we're IS or OOS?

I'm OOS.

what is the point of this? I think using the other thread is better, this is very distracting and really provides no benefit to anyone waitlisted. If we get accepted from the waitlist, we'll find out. If we don't, we'll find out. There isn't anything that trying to "figure it out" will do except drive everyone nuts.

I agree. This really kills any other conversation in the thread. I would appreciate it if this line of discussion could be limited to the EVMS waitlist thread discussed earlier. I'm not telling you not to discuss the waitlist, but it would be great to be able to discuss other things here, too.

well, obviously having a list of the waitlisted ppl and their info on sdn doesnt help your chances of getting in... It just saves time when the waitlist moves... I went back to the last year's thread and it seemed like after each "I have been accepted post" were at least 3 questions asking IS or OSS, when interviewed, when wl, how did you hear, which 1/3.... people are going to ask these questions because they want to know and it would simply be nice to have that info organized so that we don't go back 5 pages to find out when someone interviewed.

Now, something that is helpful and useful for me may be totally pointless to others. Obviously, those who find it useless need not bother reading the list or posting in it... I has been moved back to the waitlist thread though to not interfere with any other convos others may wish to have on this thread 😀
