Your application to The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences is complete and has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. To date, no final decision has been made and the Admissions Committee has placed your application on hold for re-review at a later date. If we require any further documentation or if your status changes, we will contact you immediately. We do sincerely appreciate your interest in our program. Thank you for your patience.

does this mean i'm screwed? does GW really come back to old applications, given the sheer volume of applicants they get?

Got this message too...>_<

hey guys how long did it take to get that email/notification after being complete? thx

I got that too: it means rejection. They don't reject people early on for whatever reason, but with 10,000+ applications, they are definitely not re-reviewing apps. Probably not officially until sometime in 2011. It's theoretically possible to get an interview, but based on last years thread, I can't find any re-reviewed that ultimately did...

is there anything we can do to get them to re-review our account? i.e. if we send an update letter?

Damn.

I got owned also.

I'm not as special as my mom made me out to be!

For some reason they sent me a different version:

MCAT guy, your application to The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences is complete and has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. To date, no one really likes you and the Admissions Committee has decided there is no chance you get in unless we desperately need an extra body to pay $50,000 a year. We've yet to re-review a file this decade, but you never know. We do sincerely appreciate your $100 donation to our program. Thank you for your Benjamins.

Part of me was sad at first, but I do appreciate the brutal honesty of this admissions committee.

hahaha love it. couldn't have put it into more accurate words myself.

jamiu how long did it take for them to come to this decision?

I was actually complete about 2wks ago.... so my it took 2 short weeks for them to come to this conclusion. I wished they looked at my apps harder, maybe 3wks b4 they came to this conclusion. :meanie:

I'm joining the club Jamiu. Just checked my status. On hold for re-review. I have been complete for less than a week. Damn this is one of my top choices too. This makes me wonder how they choose who to give an interview invite to.
Well lets see where this re-review takes us...

Where? This is where your application is now located my friend:

?? Where it's located now? Hell, that's where they asked me to send my application. The application fee on the other hand is swiftly electronically debited to the GWU's offshore account. I checked GWU's adcom's facebook status update this afternoon:

$125 x 10,000 = $1,250,000 :idea::idea::idea:

Just so you know, I applied during the 2009-2010 cycle, was complete in August, got the same message and out of the blue got an interview in February.

As the months wear on, GWU will issue mass rejections from this rereview pool so you will definitely hear something by... April? The way it works is that they interview from top to bottom and reject bottom to top - if you're in the middle (I was) it'll be awhile before you hear anything.

Despite the fact that I got an interview last season, I ultimately never moved off of the waitlist. My current 2010-2010 is again in the rereview pool. Currently I am doing Georgetown's SMP in order to enhance my application (let's hope!).

MCAT guy, you are officially my favorite person to follow on SDN right now, you make me laugh with so many of your posts

Canadian applicant here, just got word of my interview date 10/28! Seems a bit later than other people's I've seen around here 😛

Secondary was received 7/28, they sent an e-mail back telling me the app was complete 8/19 and I was notified of an interview 8/23. There was no other e-mails from GW apart from those...no re-review, etc..

This is my second time applying to GW, last year I got the annoying on-hold response.

Also, congrats to the others who got interviews! And don't get discouraged, those that are waiting, I wish you all the best 🙂

Thanks for the info. So would you say those who interview early have a better chance at acceptance?

This is true at any school with rolling admissions....

I got put on hold for re-review as well. Good luck to everyone else still waiting :luck:

does anyone know if they constantly re-review or is it only after a certain date? just curious if it's worth sending an LOI sometime in the next few months...

Secondary completed (LORs finally submitted) on 8/16/10, Interview request received 8/23/10.

Yea, I'm considering sending schools LOIs in a month or so. If I don't hear back from GW soon, I swear I'm going to put this school on hold for re-review.

You already sent in your 'letter of interest' - it's called your application fee. Anything supplemental before an interview, beyond grade/MCAT updates, is at best unnecessary and at worst annoying... at GWU and everywhere else.

hey .... does anyone know how long it takes for them to acknowledge that they received your secondary?

Just joined the re-review club....first "rejection" and it was my first choice! Good luck to everyone who hasn't heard yet.

I am still waiting for my secondary 🙁

Can some kind person please post the questions that George Washington University asks on its secondary? Tnx

1) Indicate your activities from summer 10 to summer 11 short space provided
2)what is your most significant non academic accomplishment. this is also very short 3 sentences or so
3) what is your specific interest in the MD program at GW? what opportunities will you take advantage as a student here and why?
one solid paragraph here.

Sup guys,

I'm a long time stalker of SDN, but I felt compelled to join since I'm basically on it all the time lol. Anyway, I got an interview invite from GW for November 4th.

C: 8/26. II: 8/30

3.8 / 30

Good luck guys!

Hey!

It seems like they don't reject right out, eh? Well there is still hope! For those of you interviewing, which airport is the best one to arrive in?

Thanks

CuriousCl

So I actually live in the MD / DC area and I think your best bet is Ronald Regan Washington Airport. Not only is it the closest, but it's a part of the DC metro and you can literally get off the plane, hop on board the yellow line, transfer at the Pentagon station on the blue line, and proceed to Foggy Bottom / GW. The med school is literally to your left once you get there.

Seconded. Also don't fall into the trap that a lot of airline ticket search engines put up and search for "WAS" (the entire washington area), b/c BWI (Baltimore-Washington) will be included and usually has the cheaper fares, but is pretty far from the city and requires some public transportation hoopla to get there. Dulles is okay, you can pay like $10 for a shuttle to the orange line metro which will take you directly to the GWU metro stop. But if you're not public transportation savvy, Reagan is definitely the way to go. You literally get on the metro right at the airport and 5 stops later you're there (you can get directly on the blue line from Reagan).

GWU just received my secondary, just waiting for MCAT scores to be in on September 14!

Just joined the re-review club....first "rejection" and it was my first choice! Good luck to everyone who hasn't heard yet.

Not sure what you are saying, is re-review a rejection?? That's ok if it is, I just kind of want to know my status and I've been in re-review for several weeks now. 😕

re-review for me.. i didn't get an email though, just checked on the status page. I don't think re-review means you're rejected! you just have to wait longer for a final decision

Hey guys,
just spoke to a very nice lady in admissions. She said that most of the people that they interview and eventually accept were placed on hold/re-review at one time or another during the application process. So! All is not lost! 🙂 Although a little bummed at first, I am glad there is still hope!

Thanks for checking on this, I'm in re-review too.:xf:

I hope that's true lol. I can understand that I guess b/c the high calibered students probably interview get accepted and then accepted to a school of their choice so they then decline. Yea but definitely to everyone being re-reviewed does not mean you're rejected. You have a higher chance of being rejected, but there have been people who have been rereviewed and later being invited for an interview. I'm not sure of how many, but it does not mean autofail.

Just finished my secondary. First off, I wish a school which prides itself on all the lastest technology would move away from snail-mail secondaries.

Secondly, I know several people who are students at GW now that were orignally on the re-review list. With 10000+ applicants and them making these decisions in ~2wks, i bet 9,500+ must get a re-review status. This is not a reason for anyone to be concerned bc their published statistics are not anything astronomical ~30MCAT, 3.6-37GPA. So at least we know that normal people are ones who eventually matriculate...haha. They probably have some system where they interview and accept a bunch of badasses and then interview the rest of us as those folks get into Hopkins and Harvard.

I could be completely wrong, it might be a kiss of death and we could all be screwed, but I prefer to rationalize (much more pleasant and makes me miss my 125 bucks less).

Good luck everyone. Its a good school and DC is a very cool place to study medicine.

nice yeahh. probably most get rereview. by that point you either get an interview eventually or don't. pretty much standard

oh gosh!! I just finished the secondary application today! I can't get it mailed off until NEXT WEEK!:scared: At how much of a disadvantage am I? Looking at these posts it takes a while for them to process your application. Good job GW for taking forever to mark us complete AND using snail mail. :uhno:

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just try to get it mailed in when you can. Don't stress out about it. You're fine.

Thanks Docta! I really need to stay off of SDN for the remainder of the process. It's turning me into a nervous wreck, lol

haha it's fine. sdn is a pretty good resource. you'll be fine, the key is just turning them in b/c it's such a long, grueling process. you'll never know what will happen unless you turn them in. do you still have a lot to go?

You're right! & I still have 5 more to go *sigh*. I can't wait until this process is over. If and when I get my first acceptance, I honestly don't know what I'm going to do with myself!!

your post counts are very low. did you sign up for sdn just to tell us you have an interview?

I get your point, but I do not think there is a requirement on SDN to post. People can lurk, post a little or alot.

I just joined because I only recently found this site. I joined because I wanted to know when and how others were receiving interviews and acceptances. I also wanted to know what my chances are for getting into medical school (in the what are my chances thread). I figured that telling others I received an interview would help others in my similar situation. Hopefully that answers your question.
