Hey guys,

I too know what it's like to be on the waitlist so I wanted to let you know that I will be calling to give up my spot on monday. I loved GW and DC, but I can't pass up the chance to go to my state school. Good luck everyone.

Anyone know how long you have to respond to an acceptance offer?

Anyone know how long you have to respond to an acceptance offer?

Did you get an offer? If so, congrats! I know you've been watching this thread for a long time...

I think the standard is 2 weeks, but I read on the AMCAS website that after May 15, schools are allowed to shorten that period. It should say how long you have to accept an offer on the acceptance letter. If not, I would just call the admissions office and ask...that never hurts, right?

No I did not. Just curious because I was accepted off waitlist at another school and had 3 weeks. Still hoping for GW.

Take that spot. You can drop it if you get accepted to GW. You just won't get your deposit back. If you like GW more, in the greater scheme of things, that $100 won't matter.

I will definitely do that if I get the opportunity. GW waitlist seems to be pretty stagnant.

Oh that 3 weeks u can say you will go there but still hold onto the waitlist spot.

But if you get off the waitlist spot at GW, you will again have whatever the timeframe GW gives which is probably 1-2 weeks to decide at that time.

But I doubt it will be 3 weeks. Usually most schools limit it to 1-2 weeks unless an extension is granted by asking for special permission.

Hi all - I will be turning down my acceptance in a few days because I have been accepted to my state school. I hope my spot goes to one of you deserving individuals!! Just thought I'd share to give you some hope! 🙂 I know that being on a waiting list is difficult, but hang in there!!

Accepted off the wailist!!! Don't give up guys.... !! Now i got a tough decision to make ahh

Thanks Prateek!... It was more like a hypothetical situation then. I just wanted to set the prompt that way because I wanted to be prepared if it actually were to happen...xD..

So did you ever decide the answer to that question?? Glad to see the hypothetical situation became a reality. 🙂

GujuDoc did not get accepted somewhere? weird

YES, Guju did! CONGRATS GujuDoc!!!! 😀

And to get back on to topic, hope to hear from GW soon. I'm guessing the class is pretty much full at this point. I wonder if they'll send us rejection letters...eventually.

I don't know who the hell UMad is but I DID GET ACCEPTED TO WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE on June 16, 2011 around 3PM.

I have both a hard copy and email copy of my acceptance letter. Don't know who this freak is.

Phew thank god that post was deleted by the mods. That's pretty scary and sad people are so psychotic to say a person's real name on a forum and then tell them they are lying.

And mark,

People been posting me threatening messages all year who don't like me. so not sure who these people are. People will do anything on these forums and SDN has gotten worse and worse with the years as someone who has read these threads a long time. this is the reason I refused to post my stats and my story in the postbac forums or nontrad forums. Once I get a final decision from UCF, my one remaining waitlist I will delete my account off these forums as I have no desire to deal with such people in the future.

At the beginning of the year someone created an account to waste 30 min. of time if not more to tell me I'm wasting my time and my life and should just give up. That was the 2nd username they created to do such.

Then after that someone else created a username to stalk me but got banned. That happened at least 2x. On Jan 6th was the day BU was giving decisions and I was online a lot cuz I was anxious for my friends and I was also posting congrats messages to those who got in there. So I posted a lot that day. someone decided to say that was my posting history every day and post my whole posting history in the UCF thread to embarass me. They got banned too.

More recently, DJtiesto has been harassing me as well as ceng2doc.

DJtiesto personally told me I was a shame to indians in his opinion and that I contributed nothing to SDN though the number of people who've asked me for advice over the years tells another story. DJTiesto also came on the wayne thread just to tell me I reek of desperation to him. Don't know what his problem is with me.

ceng2doc kept following me around in the UCF and FSU threads because he got pissed that I wouldn't tell my stats and found him a bit annoying with his constant asking for people's stats because its offensive for some people who don't feel comfortable with giving that kind of information to random strangers. Everytime I posted anything on the FSU thread I got attacked by him.

But this UMAD I don't know. I wouldn't know who they are or what their problem is or how they know me even. All I know is it is pretty scary what SDN has turned into.

God, help us! Nobody has ever annoyed SDN as you did!.. Go seek professional help..

Dude, was that really necessary? You're gonna make one awful doctor. Go into research or learn to bite your cynical, overindulgent tongue.

Hey all,

Looks like I'll be going to GW this Fall! Wooo.

What have people been doing to look for housing/roommates?

Never thought I'd say this.

I was accepted to GWU SMHS this morning at 9am off the alternate list. I plan to take it. God is good.

Stats: MCAT 28R, 3.85 GPA with 3.82 sciences
I've sent updates/correspondence every 2 weeks since I interviewed.

to gujuDoc, yeah I don't understand what their deal is. I haven't read anything you have said that has annoyed anyone but these few members. At least not that I have seen.

You have done well though and you deserve it. Good luck in medical school!!!

Thanks and good luck to u too. I hope you get in if u are still waiting on a waitlist here at GW or elsewhere. I will keep u in my thoughts and prayers.

lieutfunaki just heads up I sent you a PM. Thank you!!!!!

mark3524, I PM'd you back, but it's not in my sent folder. If you don't get it let me know...I'll try again.

gujudoc: the pre-med community is perhaps the greatest deterrent to pursuing medical school. Sounds like you have fallen victim to its meaner side. Don't let it make you jaded.

lieutfunaki, I got it, thank you!!!! I should've asked more nicely 🙂

gujuDoc, thank you!!!! Don't worry about those people, when you're out practicing you won't even care 🙂

to everyone else, :xf: I hope there is still a chance for all of us!! even if its not GW

Thanks and good luck to u too. I hope you get in if u are still waiting on a waitlist here at GW or elsewhere. I will keep u in my thoughts and prayers.

Haters gonna hate... Gujudoc, your perseverance is admirable. Congrats on your acceptance, you absolutely deserve it!

Good luck to everyone still on the waitlist. I've heard many stories of people getting in late, keep the faith = )

hey everyone, congrats on those accepted off wait/alternate lists. your stories are truly inspiring. I was just wondering: in general, what does one write about in a letter of intent (especially those sent every two weeks!)? Did you send it in the mail or email? I see that more and more schools accommodate such letters, so I was hoping on getting more information.

Thanks!

I have received a number of private messages about that. Get creative. Examples are: grades, scholarships (even if you are just in the running), promotions at work, summer plans (academic and non-academic), clinical experiences that reminded you how much you wanted to go to GWU (I tied these into specific elements of their program i.e. the specific track I want or the POM program), meeting people from GWU that impressed you, volunteer experiences. Tell them they are your first choice.

lieutfunaki, I am having the same problem with my sent folder. I sent you a reply pm but it isn't showing up. Let me know if you got it. 🙂 Thanks!!!!

Comon GW!!!! Just let us all in!!! 😉 I wish!!!!!

When my friend wrote hers, she reiterated what she'd been doing and updates she may have had that were new and then reiterated why GW was of huge interest to her. Like for instance, mentioning specific programs or specific reasons why GW interests you in general can help show your interest. But then end by saying if given the opportunity you will attend and thanking them.

Also make sure to mention your AMCAS ID number when you tell them who you are and when you sign it at the end after you put ur name.

Write it in business format. That's what she did. If you have something like new grades, poster presentations, publications, giving a copy of these things might help too.

This is also the same approach I took with Wayne state and it worked for me.

Additionally, this is the approach a med student at BU took whose letter I also looked at for ideas on how to write one.

So for instance you say.......

Dear GWU Committee on MD Admissions:

Hi my name is ___________ (AMCAS ID ### ## ###) and I am writing this letter to both report the following updates to my file since interviewing on xyz date, and express my interest in GW.

1.
2.
3.

My interest in GW stems from many factors:

1.
2.
3.

All of these factors were further reaffirmed upon my visit with students and faculty at the interview on xyz date.

I would be truly honored to attend if given the opportunity to become a part of the class of 2015 at GWU School of Medicine.

Sincerely

In this space area you can use a cursive font to sign your name as if it was a signature

your name
your amcas ID

Oh and send it via email. it will get to them faster that way and you will be sure it has gotten to them. It takes too much time and you risk it getting lost in transit if u do snail mail.

Yes I agree with this.

In terms of letting them know your interest think about things that set GW apart such as the following:

1. GWU's extensive international clinical opportunities
2. GWU's different tracks
3. GWU's health policy related opportunities being that it is in DC, the heart of policy making.

Think about what specifically sets GWU apart when you say your interest.

As per updates I think both the post I quoted and my other post gave enough examples. GOOD LUCK

Hope I was able to give you some idea of how to go about it.
