I think ideally, it'd be something recent to show that "recently", it's an activity you've been involved it. Granted, they 1) don't list a timeline, 2) would be likely impressed with that type of activity....I'd say put it down, while emphasizing that you have continued to dance up til now...

I'm trying to write about mine about creating some event but..it's so...lackluster. 🙁
 
Nope. It doesn't have to be during your college years. If there's something during your life that you're proud of and can talk about enthusiastically, there's no reason to not put it down. World championship irish dancing is definitely something you don't see every day, and i think they'll take note (in a good way):luck:
 
My app was sent with the first batch, but I haven't received a secondary yet...Do they send them in batches??? Or am I just rejected already?

I don't think you've been rejected. In the MSAR, it says that they give secondaries to all applicants. They certainly don't screen, b/c my AMCAS hasn't even been verified yet, but I received their secondary.

Maybe give them a call?

I think they said they give secondaries to everyone that applies. They don't prescreen.
 
How do people feel about using an accomplishment they you already mentioned in your ECs in AMCAS?

I definitely think this is ok.

To expand on this question, what if my greatest accomplishment was the basis for a lot of my personal statement?

I would think they would want to read about something else, so what do you guys think about a statement like "in addition to what I discussed in my personal statement, a significant experience was..."?

Hmmm, I'd have to agree...this is a bit scary. Also, I received their secondary twice as well. Its not a deal breaker but its kind of like having a web page that seems like a two year old composed it; it doesnt exactly bolster my confidence in the institution...

well, they got my extra $125 anyways!
 
Does anyone know what the screening process is? I have a 3.92 GPA and a 27M. (10 P, 7V, 10B).

I am scheduled to retake the test on July 8th. would you suggest I do?
 
nih, they don't screen. All applicants will get a secondary.

As for the retake...if I were you, I would. Definitely try to get that verbal score up. 7 will be pretty low for most MD schools.
 
hey guys. i'm sure others noticed this. But for the "non-accomplishments" question there are 6 lines. Does anyone know if we can use that 6th line or does it have to be 5?

whhaa? Mine has 5 lines. Why do I have a different version. My application says write answers in the space provided... so if there is space, write.

I only have 5 too...so don't worry. I had to go back and count my "copy" since I mailed it out today.

for our activities, employment etc Summer 2010-Summer 2011, did you guys write how many hours you're doing for each activity? How are you guys listing them? Are you also giving them time periods?
 
I didn't list them, because I didn't feel it was completely necessary. I think as long as it's clear that your activities add up to like 30 hours, they're not goign to care. In fact, it's probably just to get an idea of what you'll be doing after applications are over..it's not that big of a deal.

What I did was in a narrative, explain "In ______, I wil be working as ________. In ________, I will be going to school blah blah. From this to then, I will be _______.
 
I've mailed it in, paid the fee. Now what? Will they tell us if we're missing something or when we're complete? For such a primitive secondary (who uses snail mail anyways?) they have quite a big fee compared to other schools.
 
This might be a dumb question..

but I'm typing in my answers for the short essay questions, and my pdf document let's me fit in two lines of text for every visible line on the pdf. So even though there's only 5 lines, it will let me type in 10 lines worth. Should I only type 1 line of text for every line?

And I'm really stuck with the 2nd question... I'm confused by what they mean "academic"... could I talk about a program I helped start with my club that increases HIV/AIDS awareness in high schools? I don't play sports and I'm really bad at playing a few music instruments lol.

I'd just type up 5 lines...and that's about it. They really only want the lines listed on the page.

I thought the question was a non-academic experience?

Yeah... but I wasn't sure if they just meant besides grades and school... technically my club is a community service club, non-academic. Does that count? 🙂

I'm not quite sure what to write for question #2...

How important is a photo if we don't have a 'passport photo' ready?

Yep. I sent it via Certified Mail just to make sure that GW actually received it.
and I went and got my 'passport picture' taken... it only costs ~$9 so it didn't really matter to me
I figured it would help just a little IMO...

i printed it and glued a photo to it..I had adobe photoshop print it out the exact dimensions of the box. I think it was 5cm x 4.6 cm.(W*H) They may question why you didn't include a photo, if the were anal.."what does this person have to hide?" haha.

I sent it via first class..because I was cheap and didnt want to spend a few extra dollars. Not to mention, I don't the mailing office to be annoyed by getting something they have to sign for and then sort.
 
Woo! Just finished the essays. Hoping to submit early next week, after I take a picture of myself. 😛

I can only fill in one line at a time in my PDF, it doesn't carry on to the next line so I have to just guess when I am running off the page. I see what they are doing... in order to weed out the extra applicants, they make us use the worst secondary application EVER! I love it.

At the top right of pg 1, there's a little box where you can glue/tape your picture.

Agreed! Editing my essays on that thing was such a pain!

idk about you guys but I also had formatting problems. Some lines the text would be in slightly bigger font size than in others and I couldn't change it since I have a really bad version of adobe
 
Did you guys use up all your lines to each question? The space provided were a little more than I expected, lol. btw... this has got to be the most annoying secondary I've ever filled out.. 😵

As long as you said everything you needed to say I'm sure it's fine...they're not gonna reject you because you didn't use up every single space they give you
 
Do you all think they would consider accomlishments within a college organization to be academic? I was going to mention some of the things I accomplished as an officer in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Or do you all think I should steer in another direction away from school completely?

I didn't. I first typed up everything in MS Word and went through the arduous task of copy and pasting things line by line. MS Word and the GW PDF don't match up perfectly, so what appeared as 14 lines in MS Word turned out to only be 11 in the PDF.

anybody know if there's an issue submitting before getting your primary verified?

Im assuming it'd be alright if they sent it out to people who haven't gotten verified yet - i haven't called the school though yet.

To answer your question, I think anything "NOT" research or class related is considered non-academic...as long as you dont say "my grades in ________ class and my research ____________" you'll be fine.

Simply put..most extracurriculars less research are probably the non-academic things they're looking for.
 
Just got my complete email. Seems like it took around a week to get processed (Submitted 6/30).
 
I just got my "we got your secondary" email...but no LOR stuff yet...I guess they've yet to put it with my file since my LORs were sent to all schools..via AMCAS.

Edit: Just received a "you're complete" email....woot! Oddly, just about an hour or so afterwards haha.

Oh yeah that's the email I got, but when I logged into the status site, it said they received my app + LORs (aka complete).
