Really in April? I didn't know that. So a good portion of the class hasn't been selected?

Maybe.

It might be different this year with the rumored increase in class size and the fact that over the last couple of years less people have been giving up their spots.

I only know that my class has quite a few people that were accepted in April or later.

The committee is having an advocacy meeting this Friday to review the "No Final Action" applicants.......keeping my fingers crossed and staying hopeful!!!!!! Come on New Orleans.....give me some good news!!!!

No invite. Anyone else? Seems like they usually go out the Monday after they meet.

nothing here either, i heard the same thing. tomorrow?? :xf:

It looks like the committee will be meeting on Friday Feb. 25th. Dr. Eubanks said that all the spots of the class have not been given out. I hope my interview went well! Fingers crossed. I think it odd they have not done any more invites. They may be waiting for interview invites until Feb 25th??

Yeah I guess so. If they only send out invites once a month then it seems like we gotta wait till the 28th. 🙁

wasn't the advocacy meeting last friday? Shouldn't we be seeing some more posts for accepted people, let us know if you are going to be a classmate next august!

haha true! There are 190 spots, you'll be hearing from them soon with an offer 😀

Can you accepted folks divulge any info about your application stats? Just trying to read the tea leaves here...

hey - wanted to let you know that I called today and they reaffirmed they are still inviting people for interviews.... didn't say any specific dates or anything... :scared:

let's keeeeep hopingggg

Thanks!!! And yupp, found out today through the ole reliable snail mail.

So, I read on their website that the dorms/apartments on campus are on a first come first serve basis. Now that I have been accepted, can I go ahead and apply for a dorm now? Do they fill up quickly or do I still have plenty of time?

So many questions

Dr. Eubanks said the dorms/living on campus is completely separate from admissions, so you have to contact them as soon as you are interested. And CONGRATS!

wow! congrats for getting in DNA Man! I hope I get in! I'm trying to remain optimistic here...

Just got verified that the class is going to be 200 this year but that in 2012, the class will be expanding to 250 for an accelerated 3 year program for primary care that will be split into Lafayette!

wow...how did you get this verification?

that sounds like great news for louisiana.

Dr. Eubanks also told us this on my interview day. I think he said it was taking the place of the Rural Scholars track.

Well i caught Ms. Stuckey on the phone and she told me of the news!

This year's class will be 190-200 people large. Next year it will remain the same but there will be 40 more people accepted for a primary care physician program. These 40 people will do the first two years at nola then finish at Lafayette. It's to encourage more people to become primary care physicians, graduating this program in only three years. It shouldn't affect rural track program though.

Thanks Pre Medical! And for everyone that has gotten a no final action letter, dont be overly concerned because I know I was! I got one after the ADCOM met on Dec 17 and then received an acceptance after they met on Feb 4 for the advocacy meeting. From what I hear, this happens to a lot of people. So stay optimistic!!

Pre Medical, I'm sure good news will be coming your way soon!

Anyone wanna share a two bedroom apartment in Residence Hall?

DNA man! Congrats!

I got accepted too! I was wondering what you thought of the dorms and if they were better than getting an apartment?

Thanks Alphelix! Congrats on your acceptance also!!

I called housing today and they said the dorms do not have a kitchen. Also, I wasn't exactly clear on this from talking to housing but some of the dorms require you to use a community shower and some are shared with adjacent dorms, so idk.

However, the apartments have a kitchen and their own bathroom with a living area. But she did say there is a long waiting list for single bedroom apartments which cost $486 per month. She did say that the two bedroom apartments are readily available at $690 per month. So I sent in my application today for a two bedroom apartment and that's why I was wondering if anyone would be interested in sharing an apartment in Residence Hall.

Does anyone know if they will let a single occupant rent a two bedroom apartment in case I cant find a roommate?

Was that Stanislaus Hall that you said had the apartments, DNA man?

I guess I'll have to force my parents to drive down to New Orleans for a weekend and go apartment hunting for me! 🙂

Congrats to all accepted!

Starting to get a little anxious now haha.

I think the apartments are in Residence Hall

Thanks so much, DNA man! Did you just call them to get the housing application or did you find it online?

Congrats to everyone accepted! Can't wait to see everyone in the fall!

Gracias DNA man!

Also, eject, I totally agree!

Too bad I don't drink coffee 🙁

I could not find LSU School of Medicine Class of 2015 on facebook, so I started one. Go to facebook and search "LSU New Orleans School of Medicine Class of 2015" and join!

this seems kinda awesome.

Cause it is. 🙂

It's good for when you want to make a quick cup of coffee and don't want to make a entire batch. Just throw some grounds in it. Fire it up. Rinse the filter when done, and you are good to go.

Too bad I don't drink coffee 🙁

Well since it dispenses hot water, you can use it make other things like hot cocoa or tea or what-not.

I know I have too much time on my hands right now. But I can't make sense of this: Among tuition and fees listings, the Admissions page has an entry for a laptop that costs over $2,000. From what I understand, these laptops are Dells. Off the shelf Dell laptops don't seem to cost anywhere near that amount of money. The fancy gamer laptops don't even break $1,500. Is there expensive, kickass medical software on it? Or what?

I'd much rather blow two grand on this. But I'm sure there's a really compelling reason why the requirements are what they are (and hopefully it's not just that the school gets an awesome kickback from Dell!).

I know I don't get why a dell would be that much!?! I just got a decent one for $540. I don't get it...

The laptop has tons of software on it that you need for your classes. It is also the laptop you will be taking your exams on. The forth year med students who gave us a tour on my interview date, also said that it comes with a 4 year warranty and tech support staff located in the medical school. That alone is worth the one time $2,000 fee.

Hey Everyone!

I want to start off by saying CONGRATULATIONS to everyone accepted into LSU-NO! My name is Tracy and I am new to this forum. I've been reading through the threads for months and finally decided to join the community. I am also in the middle of the waiting game. I have yet been invited to an interview, and I am worried. It gives me hope that I am not the only one in this boat, but what are the chances of getting accepted if you have yet to receive an invite to an interview at this point?

Again, CONGRATULATIONS to those accepted! =] Good luck everyone!

p.s
For those looking for dorms/apartments, I lived here in New Orleans all of my life. Personally, I believe it's cheaper to rent an apartment on the Westbank. 🙂

The second year that led me on the tour told me that she found the dells to be pretty good, but they were slowed down by all the extra software. She said there was a lot of software that encrypted the data for when you handled patient information (which she pointed out was NOT first year stuff).

Also, I was told that they are pretty nice dells, but because of the extra software, they tend to have issues (which makes the IT department so helpful!)

Heard the exact same thing from the first year tour guides

Kind of sucks that it costs much money, but it just means you'll be pleasantly more surprised at your spring loan money.

I bought a Dell that is way faster than my school one for about the same price before school started. I would definitely recommend having a home and a school computer.

Well it doesn't really have tons of software we need for our classes. I would think that most of the extra money goes toward the encryption system (which is one of the most annoying things you'll deal with) and the support.

:barf:

To each their own, I guess. Sometimes saving money isn't worth it.

They tend to have issues sometimes, but most of those are because of the encryption software. I can't really think of any issues I've seen people have unrelated to that.

By the way, y'all are keeping this thread around very well. It wasn't very popular last year - I think y'all already have 2 more pages then we did the entirety of last year's app season.

Aw, and I thought we were getting MACs like the Shreveport students!

macbooks and lecture podcasts...overall, a technology strategy that appeals to me much more than the approach in Nola. alas...
