What is the first day of interviews?

Ah. Just realized they only give you two weeks to finish your secondaries. There's no way I can do that, because the premed committee at my school won't even write my composite letter until my AMCAS is verified. I only submitted it a week ago.

Give them a call?

You dont have to have your LORs in to submit secondary application.

I'm really not sure how the process works. I guess if you are really getting antsy you could give the admissions department a call. They might say something about when interview invites are handed out.

Hi Anyone ,
I'm applying ED to MCG & was just offered an interview. How long after the interview does it take to reach a final decision? :)

EDP decisions are all mailed at the same time. This occurs right around 9/30

Congrats to those who got interviews!

anyone know how long interviews will be handed out?

I'd imagine for a decent amount of time. Since I got my invite on the 2nd and was only given August 12th through 20th as choices for interviews, I bet they will hand the interviews out for awhile considering that they will interview until sometime in September.

I was just wondering how long you had to wait to get your interview invitation, since you submitted your secondary application? I feel like I'm just clicking the refresh button...too many times.

I submitted the secondary on July 7th and got the interview invite on August 2nd. So nearly a month.

I submitted my secondary application July 26 and got an interview invite on August 2 as well. I suppose when you submit isn't a factor as to when interviews are awarded.

I did EDP, and if they don't invite me for an interview, can I start applying reg decision at other schools? So if they are not inviting me for an interview, do they let amcas know asap? Or do I still have to wait til almost October 1? Also do you guys know how many students did EDP this cycle?

When they are have invited the last EDP interviews, they will give you a verbal to go ahead and apply to other schools. This happened to a buddy of mine last year, and I believe he got the word around 9/6. He did have to call them to get it....

I am about to start my 3rd year, and want to go possibly meet with an admissions counselor at MCG. Should I just email the admissions department are ask for a meeting with someone in the admission department, or can do I just show up during office hours and introduce myself? I know my AMSA group goes once a semester, but I wanted to go before then. (sorry if I didn't post this in the right place)

What is everybody's thought on attire for the interview? I know a suit or something formal is standard, but does the fact that it's going to be in the 90s and humid affect what's expected? I saw that there's a 45 minute to an hour walking tour of the campus, and that is going to be brutal in a dark suit. Are people going to bring a change of clothes? Wear khaki pants and a sportscoat?

I'm bringing both a suit and sportcoat/khaki combo and going to ask the friend I'm staying with what she saw last year when she interviewed.

Either way, bring an undershirt and just carry the suit or sport coat with you while on the tour. No way am I wearing it. Wearing a collared shirt is bad enough.

Ok so I submitted my secondary on 8/5 for ED. When should I expect an interview? Hopefully a couple of weeks is good enough for them to invite me for an interview. What do you guys think/know?

Do yourself a favor and wear a suit (men). I see plenty of people during the interview process, and 99% of the men that interview are wearing a suit.

This is a professional interview, and if you have a suit it should be on you.

:)

Thanks for the info. I'm already out at Augusta hanging out with a 2nd year med student for a few days and glad that I did bring my suit. I kind of figured that was what was wanted. I mean, if you don't wear a suit for a medical school interview, then where would you wear one?

For the heat: Bring an undershirt and take off jacket while walking outside. If you don't wear an undershirt, your nice shirt will look like it was soaked in water within 10 minutes.

For ppl who already interviewed in ED program, what questions were asked? I know that on the website it says the interview is closed file one on one; but some ppl have said otherwise on the interview feedback page.

Interviews are open file at MCG.

I submitted my secondary for EDP around 25 July. I called around 5 Aug to make sure they received all my e-mails. Then I called back a few days later to make sure that I had enough docs for my residency. A few days later I got the interview notification for 16-25 August.

My friend who is a 4th year said his interviewer had not reviewed his file prior to the interview (ie. closed interview). He said it was low key, straightforward questions... Why do you want to be a doctor? Why MCG and not another school? But his friend got asked, What is the reason why people wear pants? That guy did get a full scholarship, so I guess it was a good answer... :)

The best advice I've been given is to stay on message (don't ramble & do stick with what you said in the essays) & be yourself--let your genuine passion for medicine show through.

Good luck everyone!

It used to be closed file, but now it is open file. Just had my interview Thursday.

For me the interview was pretty much conversation. Initial question: Why do you want to be a doctor? And then it just flowed. We even started talking about Inception during the interview.

It's been open file for 2 years now.

With ~25 committee members... your interview experience and questions can vary greatly.

Just had my interview. All of the interviews that day were a little different, but all were very laid back. And they were definitely open interview--my interviewer had my stuff printed out and highlighted. My interview was more like a conversation than an interview. We just talked how I got interested in medicine and walked through my experiences... what would I find challenging about med school? Why am I unique? Some folks were asked if they could have dinner with anyone who would it be? If you were a fork or spoon which would you be?

This is what they briefed as the EDP admissions process:

1. Three reviewers review your file (AMCAS & secondary) If two of three like the file, you'll get invited to interview.
2. A fourth reviewer reviews the file and determines what questions they would like to ask. These are forwarded to the interviewer.
3. The interviewer conducts the interview
4. Every Thursday, the committee of 25 meets. They discuss the applicants one by one, people ask questions, etc. Then they vote whether you get an offer of admission or deferment to regular decision. You just need a majority--as I understand it.

Anyway--it was pretty fun and left me with a really good impression of the school and the people. In general, he mindset seems to be how can we help you--its less about competition among students, more about collaboration. I think this may produce doctors who can actually communicate & collaborate with their peers--pretty essential with all the coordination of care among specialists!

Anyway--now we wait...

Anyone else who interviewed Aug 16 find it funny that the Dean "wasn't there for lunch with us on account of AAMC business in Kansas," yet he resigned as Dean from MCG SOM the same day?

Are you getting the Vice Dean and the Dean (former) confused? The Vice Dean attends 90%+ of the lunches, while I've never heard of the Dean attending any of these. Plus, the Vice Dean is very involved in the AAMC (oversight committee and others).

Dr. Fincher (Vice Dean) is not Dr. Miller (former Dean).

:D

No, Dr. Fincher is the one who stepped in and actually had lunch with us. The Director repeatedly stressed she was sorry Dr. Miller could not be with us and that Dr. Fincher had been contacted to step in.

The Director (Devaughn)? Was she talking about Dr. Young (Assoc Dean of Admissions?).

Yes, and yes she probably was since you seem to think it was so rare that the former Dean would eat with us--I just thought MCG treated their Interviewees really, really special (not that they already didn't). Sorry for the confusion. Do you have any idea of the reason behind Dr. Miller's sabbatical leave?

Ms. DeVaughn shared that Dr. Young who is the Associate Dean of Admissions was out of town. Dr. Fincher who is the Vice Dean of Medicine joins the group at lunch. No mention of the School of Medicine Dean Dr. Miller.

No word on the Dr. Miller deal. Perhaps it was a shakeup due to MCG having a new President.

Thanks for the clarification... I heard the word "dean" and must have completely ignored all else. I still think it's funny that the day we interviewed, Dr. Miller resigns.

Does anyone else feel like the interview process was almost TOO relaxing? I'm starting to think my interviewer was really chill just because she already read my file and knew that I didn't stand a chance and she didn't want to waste energy.....

Or you're a top ranking student, both academically and socially. :)

When did you submit your secondary and when did you get an e-mail about the interview call? I submitted my secondary on 8/5, but I'm still waiting for an invite to interview.

Do you guys know how many people applied for early decision this cycle?

When does MCG start sending RD invites? I know they are still in the middle of EDP interviews. Maybe the second week of Sept?
