I wouldn't set up the tent just yet. When they mail your letter, there will be a date under it like this:

DECISION LETTER SENT:
A decision letter was sent via regular mail to you on 01/13/2011.

The only thing is, I got my decision letter in December...😕

It always says that: If they sent a letter there would be a date.

That's odd... I suppose I'll have to put my tent back.

So does that mean that the post-interview status update is essentially useless?

Would anyone be interested in joining a facebook group for class of 2015? I was going to make one but I don't want to be the only person in it 🙄

This was from a while ago but I'd totally join a fb group!

Yeah, there really is no post-interview status aside from the decision email they send. I got mine almost exactly 8 weeks after I interviewed if that helps.

Interview tomorrow with possible chance of cancellation due to weather. Can't find out till tomorrow. 🙁

Did the school tell you there would be a cancellation? Or is that just what you think? I also have an interview at a different school and am wondering if it will be cancelled

Waitlisted 12/16. Sorry for the late reply. Interviewed 10/19.
Not too bummed b/c of other acceptances.
Congrats to acceptees and good luck to everyone else! 🙂

Interviewed 11/10/10, waitlisted 1/24/11 .. merh 🙁

They sent an e-mail saying that there could be possible delays or cancellation. It's too early in the morning to get a confirmation on their status right now, so....

p.s. Good luck to you today. 🙂

Today is exactly two months for me, which is > 8 wks. I'm actually pretty sure I got rejected. Don't know what's taking them so long.

Still hoping for an interview here. Does anyone know when their interview season ends?

The stats they gave the first years during orientation week were something around these... (apx numbers)

~12,000 applications received
~1200-1300 interview offered
~I believe they said that they gave apx double the class size an outright acceptance (apx 400) and they ended up accepting around 600 total after it was all said and done

😱 Wow that' a lot of interviews... How does the school manage to interview so many people?? 😕

That's more than Drexel interviews, with a similar number of applicants lolol. About 200-300 more, and they have more class seats than NYMC!

Really though, look at the MSAR and its surprising how many people NYMC, AECOM, and Downstate interview, both as a total number and percentage wise of their applicant pool.

Realized that the recent rain of rejections must have made me a bit paranoid. Just checked the status page and noticed that they said "within 8-12 weeks". Also noticed a few people were accepted/waitlisted after waiting >8 wks. Though I have a bad feeling about the decision, I think I'm safe for the time being.

Just withdrew my acceptance here. I did really like the school when I visited.

I hope one of you gets the interview and the spot 🙂. Good luck.

Is NYMC still giving interviews? I haven't heard anything from them since being complete early august....but I also made it through that storm of pre-interview rejections they had a couple of weeks ago... kind of confused 😕

Exact same situation here. I've thought about calling the admissions office, but I've heard that they can be a bit hostile at times. I guess we'll just have to keep waiting.

I recently called the admissions office and was told that they are still offering interviews. Files, reviewed or not, will be kept open until the end of April and you should receive a final decision around then. There is still hope!

Has anyone who has interviewed between November 15th and November 19th heard back, whether it be acceptance, rejection, or waitlist? NYMC told interviewees that the decision process could take anywhere from 8-10 week.

My interview was the 9th of November and I haven't heard back yet, its almost going to be 12 weeks. Checking the mail everyday and email on an hourly basis.

I just cancelled an interview that was scheduled for February 14th. I hope someone can either move theirs up or that it opens up a spot. I haven't received a confirmation of the withdrawal yet, but I figured I'd let everybody know so they can keep an eye out. Good luck!!

Has anyone who was recently waitlisted sent an e-mail confirming you want to remain on the waitlist and received confirmation back?

I received a phone call from the director of admissions yesterday. She called to congratulate me on my NYMC acceptance from way back when, and offered her personal contact info. I was pleasantly surprised by the courtesy extended by her 🙂

Congrats on the acceptance! When did you interview?

Also random question (applicable to my NYMC interview): if an interviewer asks if you have an acceptance to an in-state school, and you say yes, is that a bad thing? Are they less likely to accept you because of an in-state acceptance?

I had a similar question. I don't think they like it that much, or at least that was the feeling I got at the interview.

It would really suck to be rejected or waitlisted because of that 🙁 hopefully that's not the case. Obviously we're still interesting in the school if we went to the interview regardless of holding an acceptance.

When I interviewed I was asked if I stayed with a student host. I said "No, because it was only a 2 hour drive". Then my interviewer said that interviewees who end up being accepted and stayed with a student host are twice as likely to matriculate than interviewees who end up being accepted and did not stay stay with a student host. So it looks like they don't want to hand out a ton of acceptances and end up having them being declined. I think NYMC spends a good bit of time trying to figure out which interviewees will actually matriculate at NYMC. I was pleasantly surprised at my interview and actually like NYMC alot more than I thought I would. The students, administration, faculty, location, and buildings were all great.

There was a big "UH-OH" on my face this morning when I saw an e-mail in my inbox with the subject, "NYMC-Decision". Opened it up to discover it was a waitlist rather than a direct rejection.

LOL that's good news. What made you think it was a rejection (if you don't mind me asking)?

Well... I have three acceptances to date and the subject is always something like "CONGRATULATIONS!!!"... so when it says otherwise, it can only be bad news.

Interviewed on 12/01

Sorry to hear that. They have access to that kind of info on your app so you'd think they be more considerate. Hope to brighten up your day a little by wishing a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! 🙂

Happy Birthdayyyy! I'm sure you will get accepted where you truly belong (not to sound cheesy) so don't let it ruin your day. 🙂

Just withdrew/cancelled my interview for early March... hope it goes to one of you!

Best of luck to everyone :luck::xf::luck::xf:

That's not fun at all. While the adcoms do have access to birth dates and such, I'm sure its just a coincidence that the rejection was on your birthday.

Hopefully you still have a chance somewhere else!

Happy birthday!🙂

Is it recommended to send LOI or new recommendations for waitlisted candidates? and how soon?

That's what the mdapp is for 🙂
(not trying to sound mean but I did spent some time updating it on a regular basis)

Accepted early morning @ 6:15am pst. 😀

Congrats! Do you think you would attend NYMC over Downstate?

Obviously, there is a big difference in public vs. private tuition in NY state.

Both are good schools, though.

To be honest, I don't know at this point. I'll probably look at the fin aid package and read up more about the schools to decide. Feel free to give me your inputs 🙂

I do believe the waitlist email does say updates are welcome and the waitlist is unranked. So, why not update and send in letters, but I'd suggest quality over quantity. Be genuine and sincere, but do "sell" yourself to the school and explain why you're a good match for the school and vice versa. Probably be a good idea to send something before mid/late April before the interview season ends in May.

Anyone else interviewing tomorrow? I'm so excited to finally get to go to NYMC - I've been rescheduled twice because of snow. Finally the weather is on my side 😀

Im a 2nd yr at NYMC and I think I can offer you some advice. The difference in price adjusted for the different cost of living in brooklyn vs valhalla is about $15,000 per yr, or at least thats what it was when I was applying. That means that unless you get a scholarship to NYMC you will be saving $60,000 over 4 years. Money obviously isn't the only factor, though. You have to think if you'd rather live in a city or a suburb. Valhalla is nice and the trip to NYC is quick and easy but its obviously a completely different atmosphere. The other thing that you must must think about is where you envision you'd be happier. Unfortunately Medical school is very grueling (as I'm sure you already know) so it is imperative that you attend a school where you will be happiest. Lastly I want to say one thing about the "community" made up of students. At downstate there is a much larger proportion of students who commute/live off campus. At NYMC there is a very close knit community among the students since most live on campus for the first 2 yrs. This is important if you find this to be a positive, and most people I know do. It's not for everyone though and I know many people who prefer to live in NYC and are fine with being separated from the student body.

A couple quick pros about NYMC
-Professors are really helpful
-Very good preparation for the boards
-Facilities are relatively new
-Student body is very close (as I alluded to above)
-good amount of early (before 3rd yr) clinical experience
-Cheap on campus housing
-ability to do most (75%+) of 3rd and 4th yr rotations in NYC

A couple cons
-long academic yr 1st yr (beg of Aug to basically end of Jun)
-Uncertainty about touro (not necessarily a con but It'd be nice to know what will eventually happen)
-Price

This will probably be helpful to anyone interested in attending NYMC. One quick side note, I was very worried I wouldn't be happy here and thus far it has turned out to be a great experience...well as good an experience you could expect in Med school since the commitment and dedication needed to succeed can be overwhelming at times.
