I'm guessing you have to write something negative about yourself in terms of working with a team such as "I am arrogant or I can only work by myself." Or is the question really asking what problems you may see with people working in a team setting?
I think you should take an experience working on a team/group and describe the experience - why it was difficult, what you learned from it -- and how you imagine that will be a challenge as a physician (but you already learned how to handle the experience)...

Just my take. I kinda of just re-looked at my essay and I don't even think I answered it properly. that's not good. 🙁

small pool! yay! I didn't get this last year. I didn't get anything last year for that matter... lol

anyone have a guess as to how many people in the pool get interviewed? like percentage?

Hey guys for the 2nd question

"Future physicians, research scientists, and other healthcare professionals are expected to work in an inter-professional environment, and Rosalind Franklin University allows students to learn in such an environment. Describe what you envision to be your greatest challenge in working on an interprofessional."

I'm guessing you have to write something negative about yourself in terms of working with a team such as "I am arrogant or I can only work by myself." Or is the question really asking what problems you may see with people working in a team setting?

I don't think that's what the question is asking you to do. It specifically says inter-professional environments, so it's specific to that setting. So I talked about how communication can be such a difficult aspect of the job when you have many different professionals relying on one another, from nurses to physicians, etc. I talked about how I anticipate it to be my greatest challenge, but also why I am equipped to deal with that challenge. The keyword I think is inter-professional. I interpreted it as meaning talk about what's the hardest part of having that many people with different backgrounds, levels of control (so to speak), different supervisors, etc.

I would definitely not talk about yourself in a negative light if you can help it.

I assume everyone used one of those fancy large envelopes so they didn't have to fold their application in half to mail it?

That's what I did last year, but this year I half figured I would stand out more if I sent my app using a regular sized envelope with 41 cent postage. I can't wait until they get my horribly tri-folded application, haha.

Mine was folded into the standard Size 10 Envelope and printed off in MS Word...and return address was done with one of my cutesy labels avec mon nom.

I poured like a can and a half of axe body spray on mine.

heh

ah well I assumed it had to deal with you personally b/c it says "your challenge" that's why I think it's how you personally would have problems working as ateam in an interprofessional setting.

What's up with this PDF I get stuck typing like 3/4 into the first essay..

Mine was tri-folded too... sorry that you won't stand out 😛

I definitely lol-ed at this

is it safe to assume that if I got my primary screening email on the 21st, but didn't get small pooled, then I'm rejected?

Why would they do this small pooled thing before inviting for interviews...it doesn't make sense.

Chill. Out. It's so early. 🙂

It's funny because I thought I was a crazy worrying premed student before. And then... I found SDN.

pdfescape.com is officially my new best friend 😍 😀

I sent my app in last year tri-folded, with a black and white photo printed on regular white paper. Somehow, I still got accepted. lol

My school apparently sends out our committee letters that way, so why not send in the secondary that way, right? lol

edit: well at least to schools not using amcas letter service they do

I got this today too.. What does the small pool mean? Do they interview from the small pool or what happens after that step?

If you look at some above posts, there are some who were "small pooled" after a few days of a "primary review". I received the primary review email at the same time some of these people did and was not put into a small pool. I honestly do not know which is better.

If you look at last year's thread, it seems that most of the interview invitations were sent to those who were not small pooled. (in a similar fashion to George Washington University). The small pool, at this point, seems to mean that one has been put "on hold"...

Okay I decided to get some info about the small pool the dumb way.

I took a poll through the first 16 pages of last year's thread (up to November), and out of 29 people who were smallpooled, 18 got interviews. Keep in mind:
1. the first half who were small pooled (before the middle of October-ish) almost all got interviews soon after getting in the pool
2. many people who did come out of the pool with interviews might not have come back and posted
3. I stopped reading at November, so those people small pooled late October ish might have gotten interviews later.

Meaning, the overall odd is probably somewhat better than 18 out of 29.

I noticed something like that too..but I didnt do the number crunching. 😛

Did you notice the same thing I did about people who were not pooled? I wasn't pooled, so I am curious to know if that means "rejection" or "interview potential"...

I think it's 50/50 for you at this point. There's a key difference between this year's and last year's process it seems: last year interviews came out first, and people started getting small-pooled a few days afterwards. This year, all we've seen so far are small pools. So I don't know if they've changed or if this is just a coincidence.

Last year, it seems like about half the people interviewed were small pooled first, and the other half wasn't. I'd say you still have a great shot!

I got an email today saying that my application is "currently in Primary Screening." I guess this is different than the "initial screening process" email that I got over a week ago. I thought that first one meant that I was undergoing primary screening. Whoops!

keep in mind that people weren't pooled or invited to interviews until September/October last year. The game plan has changed this year simply because they started pooling people in July.

Of course, this might just be me hoping for an interview invite next week (after being pooled last week). Knock on wood. :luck:

:xf: for our fortune in this process!

Just pooled. Has anyone determined whether this is good news yet?

Has anyone received a rejection?

maybe someone should call and ask...I would, but I do not have access to a phone at the moment.

I've received no rejection, but no pool either...

I haven't heard anything since the primary screening email on July 22. So, haven't been pooled. I highly doubt my stats: 29/3.77 will get me an interview before the pooled-folks. Guess I'll wait and see. Is anybody else just antsy as hell about hearing from places? Seriously, I work in front of a computer and I think it's becoming a detriment to my health [mental at least]!

p.s. <----- hey look, it's my brain!

Ironically enough, after all of my fretting and debating, I got small-pooled today, 04 Aug, after receiving the primary screening email on the 20th of July. Guess they took a long time with my records, or saw my rant here! 😛

I also received a small pool email today. I was really worried before b/c I submitted 7/10, and was complete 7/20, which was before some of the other people receiving small pool emails, so I figured I had been passed over. So I wouldn't worry, maybe they are going in a weird order, or going back and reviewing previously passed over? Lets hope Loyola does the same thing too 🙂, I love both of these schools, I want to be in Chicago!!

just got this in the morning:

"Dear Applicant,
Your file is complete and has passed a primary screening. This means you are in the pool of applicants who may be invited to interview with CMS. However, this does not guarantee an invitation and you may be invited to interview or declined an interview at anytime during the admissions process.
CMS is interviewing from September- April, with invitations being sent out via email. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Thank you,
CMS Admissions"

is this the 'small-pool' thing you guys talking about?
what are the chances of getting an interview invite upon receiving this notice? and how thorough they review your complete application before they grant you this status? thanks!

I just realized I've been in the pool since July 27th. I should start reading my emails better.

Love the pic! And you will get small pooled and we will get invited to interview at RFU the same day 😀

haha thanks!! and clearly we will! I'm feeling pretty impatient, so if they could go ahead and invite both of us, that would be pretty awesome. :woot:

I'm the same way with working with computers and checking my status all the time. Maybe it would've been better for my health to be applying in the snail mail days....

I'm becoming more and more stressed each day that passes. I'm starting to lose confidence in myself. Just waiting for that first interview!

agreed. Maybe then I would actually get some work done.

I'm so sad that I haven't been small pooled yet... 🙁 I wont pee in the pool, I promise! 😀

Hi fellow Sdners
I will be leaving the country for a while and really wanted to get my secondary out but am waiting on AMCAS to finish verifying my file. Can anyone please PM me the pdf secondary for rosalind.

Thank you so so much. I really appreciate it

hey- I got this email today too. This is the small pool that they are talking about (The small pool discussion starts on pg 3 of this thread). As for odds, others have posted the odds on pg4, I think it's roughly ~50%.

hope this helps and good luck to all!

It seems to be better than 50% from last year's threads. See my numbers above.

I know I'm being completely and irrationally impatient, but to those of you who have been small pooled already how long since RFU cashed your check/ were complete did it take to receive the small pool email. I feel like I have been in primary screening for almost three weeks (but they just cashed my check on the third).

I'm undergoing primary screening right now (got my email a couple days ago) but it seems odd to me that everyone on here has been small-pooled and nothing else. I haven't seen any rejections or different emails send out from RFU.. makes me wonder wth is going on...

I was small pooled and I considered this school something of a safety. I don't know how to feel about it--happy or upset.
