Hey! Just wanted to let you know they're back in session. I got my acceptance around 2 pm today. Good luck to everyone!

I should probably mention that I was below average in both my MCAT and GPA for Carver's standards, but I am in-state. I have a lot of extracurriculars and both research/work experience, so if you're stressed, there's definitely a lot of hope left! Good luck everyone!

Congrats Hawksfan! Out of curiosity and if it's not too much trouble, could you ballpark how below average you were in terms of the incoming class and when you interviewed? I'm in-state too and I'd like to know where I stand. Thanks!

For everyone accepted today when did you interview? Thank you so much!

Just got an e-mail saying I've been moved to the final pool. Frustrated, upset, but mostly just...really sad. Not sure how much hope I've got left at this point.

Final pooled as well. We still got a shot Mizu. How much of one I have no idea... :/

I was also put in the final pool. Pretty bummed. Somebody said that most of the class is filled from the final pool, but can anyone verify this? I don't even really know what this final pool means. They were kind of vague in the email they sent.

Had my interview in 11/1... but not a peep since then, not even the final pool email. Wonder what is going on - at this point, I would have been fine with the final pool, since its at least a sign that you are still in the running.

If you don't get a final pool email; can you just be rejected w/o it (post interview - which I thought I did very well) 🙁

ok, I haven't heard ANYTHING since I finished my secondary. Not even a "hey you suck" email. what's up?? OOS, 33Q, 3.75

For all of you that received some kind of word (good/bad/indifferent) from them, when did you interview?

11/22 here (I should probably be more patient)

True...we do still have a shot...but I'm lining up a grad school application just in case.

I interviewed on October 27th. I think the thing that got me notified today was the fact that I updated my additional and academic information on the online secondary app, which might have moved it to the review board early. But I'm not entirely sure how the process works and can only guess.

Also final pooled today. Interviewed 10/25. Disappointing, but not unexpected for me. I think they mentioned in the email that my file had been reviewed by the committee, so maybe those who haven't received the final pool email simply haven't been reviewed yet.

I believe they said on my interview day that 70% of acceptances come from rolling admissions and 30% from the final pool. So, it seems like your odds at acceptance aren't so great in the final pool, but it's not a rejection so I'll try to remain optimistic. It will also be nice to not be a basket case Tues. afternoons.

Does anyone know if they reject post-interview and pre-final pool? Or do they just throw everyone they doesn't receive an acceptance in rolling admissions in the final pool? I'd like to imagine the final pool is smaller.....

Whoa you guys interviewed wayyyy before me. I interviewed at the beginning of December.

I interviewed on 11/29 and had a 29Q/3.71. Like I said, I was below average for everything, so I'm guessing my extracurriculars (hospital volunteering, CNA work, research, etc.) helped my case. I also thought my interview went pretty well, but it sounds like most peoples did too. GOOD LUCK!

I interviewed on September 24th. It was really one of the easiest interviews I have ever had, but nerves kind of got to me. I thought that I did okay, however, there was a lot of room for improvement. I have 150+ hours volunteering in multiple medically relevant experiences. I have two years of biochem research with a poster presentation. Also, I have good academic stats (3.98 gpa in engineering with a 36Q). I am in-state and I am finishing my undergrad at the University of Iowa.

Good luck to everyone else because I have no idea what they are looking for.

why getting worked up for no reason no final pool = good news.
You have not been looked at yet so that is good. it doesnt mean you have been rejected ...interviewed early october here and no news. So you are not like in the dark alone. Chill and you will get your response one of these tuesdays 🙂

^Truth. I just called the admissions office, and they were able to expand on some things that I must have forgotten since interview day.

(I'm sure that this was already written somewhere on this thread)

A subcommittee reviews the applications for those of us in the "rolling pool" (i.e. those of us that haven't heard a post-interview peep yet) and selects a certain number to be presented to the full committee for a decision. The interview date is not considered for the subcommittee's recommendation, but rather the quality of the application itself.

Of course, this has me slightly more concerned. I don't care for being stuck in limbo. Oh well, time to drown our sorrows in some CoD.

I concur with you... Like they've said over and over... waiting is the hardest part of this process... I was able to calm down a lil with my friend meister jager.... so it's all good and waiting for another Tuesday. Good luck to all. We'll all find out where we'll be by mid May. :xf:

I just received the same final pool e-mail. From reading through last years thread, it sounds like everyone that has had an interview is either accepted (~75% of class) or moved to the final pool, no rejections for interviewees at this point. We are among literally hundreds (700+) of other final pool applicants. In mid-March they will accept some students (remaining ~25% of class), waitlist some (an IS and an OOS list with both lists being ranked and independent of each other), and reject the remaining applicants. If you manage to make the wailist, then you just wait and hope they get to your number. Sounds like they accept much less OOS applicants than IS off their respective waitlists as they try to maintain that 1/3 OOS, 2/3 IS ratio.

This wait is so nerve wracking. Just interviewed last month and can't wait. I know I was a late applicant so I prolly shouldn't expect to hear back any time soon. It just sucks!!!

I sent the admissions office an email last Wednesday. They told me that they are planning on accepting 96 IS this year (I did not ask about OOS). During the rolling period they have already accepted 58 IS. The told me they do reserve some spots for the final applicant pool- exactly how many they did not say. I did not ask them how many people are in the final pool- but from an IS perspective 700+ seems very high based on the MSAR numbers.

thanks for the actual numbers. I called in and they did not have the numbers available at the time

I definitely remember them saying at my interview that there usually isn't more than 350 IS applicants, so the interview pool for in-staters would not be 700+. According to MSAR stuff it looks like somewhere around 275 IS applicants interview at Iowa. If they give away ~70 spots in rolling admissions (based on them telling me about 70% of acceptances will be given in rolling admissions.) That leaves ~25-30 spots for the final pool. I also haven't found any rejections from IS applicants post-interview and pre-final pool in past years threads. So, assuming everyone except people who already have acceptances are in the final pool, that leaves 25-30 spots for approx. 200 people. Not great odds I would say. But, also, the 70 most competitive applicants are probably not in the final pool either because they already have acceptances. Also, if they only hand out 96 IS acceptances, that means they really aren't over-accepting at all for IS. I would think a significant amount of people can also get in off the alternate list, because I'm guessing not all 96 people will attend. In years past it looks like they at least get into the high teens on the alternate list each year? Trying to stay optimistic!

I probably have too much time on my hands right now.

Ya their are not 700 in state applicants and as far as the waitlist goes they rank 50 people for the waitlist and about 28 made it off the waitlist last year (I was on the waitlist, that number is solid) i think around 30 per year off the waitlist is par for the course. So even though its hard to wrap your head around. If you are in state and get an interview you have pretty solid odds of getting in at Iowa. Its not a certainty by any means, but the odds are pretty solid.

I'm surprised no one has posted here today considering its past 4 pm eastern time. Has anyone heard anything yet today?

Just thought I'd let some who are wondering about interviews know that interviews are being sent out. I'm OOS and was offered an interview last week. I saw dates available through January.

Congrats! Could you please share when you were complete and if you updated anything on the secondary recently that could have spurred an invite? I am grasping for any hope right now with only a few more weeks left in the interview stage... Thanks!

Interview invite today. I was complete 10/27. Stats: 33Q/3.8. The dates available were 1/14, 1/26, 1/28. and another one after that (I can't remember exactly).

As I said the 700+ number was taken from last years thread, and it was for the total number (IS & OOS) in the final pool. However, I do agree this number is probably too high. In looking back at the 2008-2009 data, there were 665 people interviewed, so unless the number of interviews had been bumped up significantly since then, the 700+ is more like 500+.

Thats good. We didn't get an email and neither did anyone else. I think I like it better that way. Now we wait for another Tuesday....

Last year they accepted 21 off the instate wait list, I know as I was number 23.

I was complete 10/27 -- so that was a pretty long time ago. I didn't use the additional tab to input any updates. I think they may be reviewing some applications again or possibly for the first time to fill those slots...not really sure how they do it.

This is a really difficult process with all this waiting -- GOOD LUCK :luck::luck::luck:

fair enough, i moved 28 spots from may to august but I see that doesn't necessarily mean they accepted 28 people of the list. I stand corrected thanks Yack

No problem, hopefully we don't have to worry about that wait list mess this year!

ya the waitlist isnt a fun place to be....so no one has any insider knowledge on if they sent out acceptances yesterday? a day behind maybe? im really not a fan of this process...🙄

Any news on merit scholarships from the admitted crowd? (not to be insensitive to the topic currently under discussion)

I haven't heard of any acceptances being sent out yesterday.

I'm IS and interviewed 10/29 and still haven't heard back.

Hmmm... If they don't review those that interviewed prior to December, do they automatically get put in the final pool at the end of January?

Did they meet today? Haven't heard anything yet?

When did merit scholarship stuff start to come up last year? I've been sifting through the old thread and haven't seen anything yet around this time last year.

Accepted yesterday!! Interviewed 12/15 - OOS, 34/4.0, Non-traditional

Any other 12/15s get accepted yet? I felt like I was interviewing with a really phenomenal group of people.

The earliest mention of scholarships I saw from last year's thread happened towards the beginning of March, but I'm not sure if that was merit-based or not. Well, nothing here anyway. Let's keep each other posted 🙂

did any OOSers get the final pool email? I interviewed in mid October and haven't heard a peep since so I am assuming I'm in the final pool. Haven't gotten an email yet though

rejected yesterday via snail mail.

Complete 9/14 OOS

I am OOS, interviewed 10/27, and I have not heard a thing either. Perhaps the final pool e-mail comes tomorrow?

I'm purely speculating here but a possible reason for why OOS people who interviewed in October haven't heard anything is because they are holding on to your app for re-review to compare to OOS people who interviewed all the way through January. Seems like they don't want to put you in the final pool before they see the rest of OOS interviewing. If you haven't heard yet you'll probably not hear until they are done reviewing all OOS apps -- maybe in March. I'd say that was a good sign as you still have a chance at direct acceptance. (But again -- pure speculation🙂)

Does anyone know if UI has patient simulators/mannequins for 3rd and 4th years??
