Friday is over and now we should be seeing at least a little bit of WL movement! Pumped for Tuesday!

Midwestern Blot: Thanks for asking about financial aid. I gotta get on that too.

The out of staters get updated this week too, right?

I hope so! While I was working at the hospital, someone broke into my car and stole the stereo and cut the wires. I better get SOME kind of GOOD news this week!! Bring it, WL.

You're kidding me. That's awful! Yeah hopefully we get some seriously good news out of this.

mdphd72, I believe the update e-mail goes to everyone on both waitlists. At least that's what I interpreted from the e-mail Carolyn sent me after I confirmed my spot on the alternate list. Someone confirm or deny my thoughts.

Looks like the update email just went out. I've moved 5 spots on the instate waitlist. Congrats to those who have just made it in off the list.

I've moved up three spots to #13, so it looks like some of the dropoff came from spots below my initial number (16). Any word from the higher-ups?

I got the update email and I am still at #1 (since 3-11) so no one has been accepted off of the waitlist yet.

Yeah, I'm still chilling at 7. I actually called right before the email went out and she told me that she would probably update every 2 weeks instead of 3 as stated in the email. So that leaves us less calling to do. She also said that based on last years numbers they would likely get to my number before May 15th. Which would be awesome for me and everyone else out there!

I also double checked about financial aid for those who were asking and all we can do right now is the FAFSA. The sooner you get that done, the sooner you will get your financial info "when you get accepted" as per her words!

I don't want to hedge my bets, but I really hope she's right about that accepted part! =)

Dang. I'm OOS, and I didn't get an update email :/

That sucks OOSers. When I call the office for info I'll ask on your guys' behalf too.

I'm chillin at 10 now, originally at 13. Let me know when it's my turn to call for updates!

We OOSers got updated today! I moved from 61 to 41. 😀 Not too shabby:laugh:

I was #1 on the IS wait list and was just offered an acceptance this morning!!

Good luck to everyone else who is still waiting to hear!

Hahaha this is no joke!! Wouldn't do that to you guys lol

Are any of the accepted students planning to do research this summer? I spent a good chunk of yesterday writing the proposal. Does anyone know how competitive it is?

I also applied for the Summer Research Fellowship yesterday before today's deadline. From my understanding I think everyone who applies will get a position as long as they still have funding available but dont quote me on this. The doctor Im working with is mentoring 4 students this summer and several of them are being funded through the Dept. So if for some reason Carver runs out of funding you may ask your mentor if its possible to get funding through their department so you can still do research.

Thanks for the info CC3. How did you find a mentor and write your proposal so fast? I'm impressed. I had a couple extra weeks than you, and I just handed it in in the nick of time today.

Hi everyone. I've been following the thread for a while, but never really had much to say before.

I am currently #12 on the IS wait list, up from #17 on the original letter and up from #14 from the first email update. I was calling to ask if students on the alternate list can come to the getting to know you event this weekend, but we aren't invited 🙁

I wanted to know if being on the wait list prevents you from reapplying for the next cycle, but that isn't the case. You can still reapply while retaining your spot on the wait list. I was told it's still early to ask for an appointment to talk about how to improve your application, so I'll probably wait another month or so for that. The majority of the students accepted off the wait list get in late April-early July with most of the movement around May, and only one or two students are usually accepted in the July-August period. She also told me that usually they only have one student decline the wait list due to acceptances at other schools, but this year there were five.

Also, if you're in the area and a UI student, I highly recommend you attend this conference. http://www.medicine.uiowa.edu/osac/examinedlife/
It's about writing in medicine, mainly aimed at current physicians, but there are some interesting sessions about integrating the humanities into the medical school curriculum. It's only $10 for students for the entire three days, so I encourage you to take advantage of this while we still have this elusive thing called free time.

Thanks midoriissa for that information, it's really helpful. I really appreciate that you took the time to make the phone call and get all this information for us. Good news, too! I'm liking the pace of WL movement.
I think this means I'm #11...anyone else called in recently for an update?

I just called this afternoon and I'm currently #5 from #9 originally and #7 after the first update. Let's keep up the movement!

I wonder why OOSers aren't as eager about hearing back

I don't think its a matter of eagerness, its just that the OOS wait list doesn't start moving as early as the IS.

Hmmmmm, we should be getting updated again soon, right? It seems like it's been forever!

They recorded all of the lectures and said they'd put them on their website.

Wait, they recorded the second look lecture or they announced that they would be recording all lectures and putting them online? What does Iowa do as far as recording its lectures, anyway?

I can't imagine that person was talking about classroom lecture recordings. That response would make no sense whatsoever.

Sorry if I was unclear. They recorded everything from second look day. I'm not sure what they do for actual classroom lectures. I would guess that those are recorded, too? Does anyone know if there's a notetaking service?

Would love to hear about 2nd look from anyone willing to share. I couldn't go🙁

I thought the day was great...we all found out which Community we were placed in (I was McGowen) and got to do community ice breakers/team building exercises right away. Then representatives from each of the distinction tracks spoke for a few minutes, and we had breakout sessions about financial aid and student life that were pretty helpful (esp. financial aid...some people's packages are already completed). Also the tour of the Fraternities was fun and I think I'm going to live in one.

The keynote lunch speaker was fantastic...he talked about the tough decision process he went through before choosing Carver COM and said it has been the best decision of his life. He really made things tough for me, as I too am trying to decide where to go for sure. I was leaning toward UC Denver, but now I'm not so sure....

Overall great day though. And definitely check out the lectures online

Where are the lectures online? I couldn't find them on ICON, but then, I wasn't searching that diligently.

At the pre-m1 part of icon, go to the top and click "content." There are the links from Getting Acquainted Day. The links didn't work on my computer, but ICON doesn't work well at all on my computer...

Email update puts me at #10 IS. Let's hope the next few weeks are kind to the rest of us.

I'm still bringing up the rear at 23. Hopefully the list moves 15+ spots before May 15th.

The update email said "Historically, there is limited movement prior to May 15." I feel like it should have been May 15th like 3 weeks ago. Is it really not may yet?

Still #2 on the OSS waitlist here... anyone know when the OSS waitlist has historically begun its movement?
