hey, still no packet yet, or anything from UMD. I'm really hoping today is the day. I live just outside Towson so the mailing distance is not the issue. I also interviewed a BIT later than you guys seemed to interview, I was on the 29th of September. But Dr. Foxwell still told us we should hear within 2 weeks, and yesterday was 3 weeks. I don't know... but thanks for asking haha

if it makes you feel better, when I interviewed there last week, before I left I asked the admissions lady when we'd hear back. She basically said 4-6 weeks (like the website says) and that Dr. Foxwell needs to stop telling applicants 3 weeks, because it's driving her crazy having everyone calling asking about their decisions haha. she said it in a nice funny way, but yeah...2 weeks or even 3 weeks probably isn't too accurate.

What day were you there? I was there on the 13... did we run into each other?

oh I fail, I meant I was there on 10/18, not last week. this week has dragged on so much at work, especially waiting for committee decisions from other schools, that it felt like a whole week has gone by since I was in Baltimore....

that will happen. . . after seeing UMD's gorgeous hospital it makes returning to the "real world" quite difficult.

Accepted!!!!!!! I have been waiting this entire week and checking my mail box frantically everyday, but it finally came! Anymore waiting and I would have gone crazy!

BTW, I interviewed September 27th, and it took two days for the letter to arrive at my house after they mailed it (I hope that helps people still waiting for their letters).

ACCEPTED!!!!! (For the curious: 3.92, MCAT>37)

So Apparently, my brother misplaced my acceptance letter (it was buried under a pile of the week's latest newsmagazines)

I will most likely be attending (I'm in-state) but I will wait to hear about financial aid. If that doesn't come through, I will look into either UMich or UVA, the only other places I've heard back from. Good luck!

Interview invite for Jan 5! Does anyone know if they have a break or why was this date so late?

Completed 9/24 (MCAT 28, BCPM gpa: 3.64) Interview invite 10/13

I was completed in early august and haven't heard back from Maryland.
I am wondering if this is normal. I know that some people have already received rejection from Maryland. Do they also give out hold status as well?

ACCEPTED!!!! Can't believe I'm actually going to medical school!! I missed the call from Dr. Foxwell last night because I was actually in Baltimore at a fundraiser for Maternal/Child health. Afterwards I saw the area code of the missed call and my heart was pounding when I listened to my voice mail.
They're going to teach me how to be a doctor! Gosh I'm so humbled.

Good luck to everyone else out there waiting to hear back. I promise all the stress and worry is worth it !!

Congrats DrTica, I guess you're name will finally have some truthful meaning huh?? Thats so cool you got a call from Dr. Foxwell, nothing like an acceptance via voicemail. Anyways, just wondering when your interview was, considering you were accepted today (have you received your packet in the mail yet?) I interviewed the 29th of Sept and haven't seen anyone post yet with an acceptance, packet or call, with an interview date on the 29th of later. But IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO INtERVieWED SEP 29th OR LATER AND HAS AN ACCEPTANCE?? Starting to really worry a bit right now, but trying to stay patient and confident. Gosh I just want this more than ever right now, an acceptance would be a huge weight off my shoulders that's been there the past two years and could leave any day now.

Hi Greenhat,

Thanks for the congrats. I actually interviewed on October 6th. However, I have NOT gotten a packet in the mail yet and in the message, Dean Foxwell said I probably wouldn't get it until Friday or so, so NO WORRIES. Some people are getting packets without phone calls so you definitely have no reason to be concerned yet. I'm sure the good news is on its way. :luck:

Hey all - has Maryland rejected anyone pre-interview yet? I have not heard anything for about 2 months, so I'm just curious. I'm OOS with average stats, so I'm not very hopeful, but would love to see this school since everyone raves about it!!

I believe so. There are people who already received rejection.
I am in the same situation as you are. I was completed in early August..didn't hear back from Maryland yet.

Another day, another empty mailbox. This is just getting depressing, but I am still checking and checking. I absolutely loved UMD and really felt my interview went well; hopefully it's only a matter of time before that one envelope comes through that mail! Other than DrTica, anybody else interview on/after Sept 29th and hear something yet, good or bad?

Sorry greenhat, keep your chin up. I'm sure you will get good news soon.

I have completed my MD secondary app for a while...certified for over a month. however, I am thinking about changing to the MD/PhD program...this would require me to resubmit/recertify everything again--do you think this would put me at a disadvantage at this point in the cycle? Or should I just keep with the MD track?

Interviewed 10/11, accepted 10/25. OOS, 32S, 3.64c/3.76s. Good luck, all!

In my opinion its best you leave things the way they are. Most schools can let you switch after the second year if you request it and of course qualify. Changing now might be a bit risky. I myself have been leaning toward changing so at interviews I ask how feasible it is and so far they told me that couple of students are successful in doing so. Just my opinion

Do they send an email stating that your application is complete, or does it just say complete on the status page? If so how long did it take to be complete from the time in which you sent in your online secondary ? Thanks!

Ummm I dont remember getting a complete email. After my secondary i received a letter two days later saying they received it.

oos, 32q, 3.74c/3.76s

sorry to hear that dude 🙁 those are decent stats...you'll get in somewhere! chalk it up to being OOS haha.

if you don't mind me asking, when did you interview? how do you feel that the interview went? is the rejection basically out of the blue or were you kinda expecting it based on the interviews? thanks!

I would be interested in the same thing. I interviewed on Oct 11, am OOS as well, but I have decent stats (about 3.95 GPA, and upper 30s MCAT), but I did not think my interview was that great, and I have not gotten any reply. What do you guys think? Do I still have a chance? How much weight is the interview given over stats?

i interviewed sept 29th. i felt the interview went alright! i didnt screw up or anything... and the interviewers seemed to like me. the rejection was definitely out of the blue. i mean it wasnt even a waitlist! apparently they accept like half the people they interview from OOS (us news guide) so i thought i had a decent chance. since they interview so few people, i guess they liked something about me but now i dunno. i guess my interview must have really sucked for them to just smack me down like that lol

i wouldnt worry, oct 11 people havent really started hearing back yet. i mean it took a month for them to send a rejection to me. i'd wait a week more for an acceptance. i dunno how much weight the interview is, they make it seem like they judge it equally in regards to the rest of your file. in the letter, they said they had way more outstanding applicants than they could accept in this pool. does that mean they interviewed more people than last year?... hmm i bet that's just what they always say in rejections

post interview limbo. they reviewed my file and dont know what to do with me.....Oh God

Hey so when did you interview? And how do/did you know they already reviewed your file? I am missing something on their status page or anything. I interviewed the 29th of Sept, and haven't heard ANYTHING back ; but people have posted here saying they have received both post interview acceptances and rejections in the mail. This is frusturating.

ACCEPTED! Interviewed 10/13. Called admissions office to ask when we should be hearing and she just told me i was accepted and should be receiving the packet soon.

32S, 3.88 GPA, 3.8 sGPA, OOS- California

Good luck to all who have yet to hear or interview!

Congrats to those accepted! I'm 90% certain I'm gonna go to maryland, its pretty hard to beat the affordable instate tuition, the world class facilities and amazing faculty and students.

To any current students, do we get to do a trauma rotation in Shock Trauma? How much experience in the STC do most students get?

Are any SNDers going to be there on Monday?

Hey! We interviewed the same day! Did they happen to mention when they were sending out the packets?

i called the office and the lady was very firm about not telling me anything on the phone....
Did you talk to the dean directly?

Interviewing here on Wednesday...my first one. Super excited but a little nervous. Anyone got some pointers for a first time interviewee?

Go to the interview feedback section and look at some of the questions previous interviewees have been asked. Prepare general ideas/answers to these questions but do not memorize anything verbatim (you wanna sound natural). You wanna have examples with real life experiences to support each of your answers.

Also, make sure you have a list of questions to ask the interviewer (at least 3-4).

Other than that, just be yourself and you should be fine. My UMD interviews were very chill and mostly just conversations about random stuff. We talked about football, the city of Baltimore, bars/night life and everything in between.

Good Luck!

I interviewed here on Monday and UMD definitely surpassed my preconceived expectations. The students were very friendly and didn't seem too stressed out and the facilities are top notch. I love how there is only 2 hours of sitting in lecture a day 😀

I'm crossing my fingers for an acceptance (OOS). :xf:They said we'd maybe hear back before thanksgiving, but probably not until early December. The wait begins/continues...

We definitely do a rotation in STC. It's part of the surgery rotation, and apparently, one of the only portions of 3rd year where we'll be expected to spend some nights.

Surgery is 12 weeks long, and I think maybe u can do a month there. Then you can elect to do more during your 4th year electives.

I'm not sure if my last post went thru so I thought I'd send it again. You should definitely call the Office of Admissions to see why you haven't heard anything. I think you should've heard something by now. Maybe they have a wrong mailing address or something.

Sorry I never responsed. Last Friday, I guess the 29th of October (exactly a month) I received a small envelope from UMD Admissions. Basically, they said they did not accept, reject, or WL me. Rather, they reviewed my application, came to no decision, and it will re-reviewed at a later time. I mean seriously? That's why I've been gone from here the past few days, because I am so out of it right now for UMD. I honestly can't believe this **** but oh well. I guess it isn't a rejection but whatever. Basically their excuse to string me along until March, if I finally "meet their standards" I guess
