Just got rejected pre-interview. IS 3.90 GPA and 37 mcat 🙁

I'm wondering if the fact that I turned down a full ride to their undergrad factored into the decision?

Oh well, good luck guys. One less applicant to worry about for this school 🙂

rejected pre interview as well. oos 3.6/34 complete mid sept

So what time do you think we'll hear tomorrow?

The anticipation is killing me! Good luck tomorrow (and for the next few months) everyone.................

I wonder what percentage of the people who interviewed will actually hear tomorrow?

I had the impression that they are mailing the decisions tomorrow, snail-mail, is this not true?? Getting word earlier would be fantastic 👍

There will be a status change too

There will be a status change too

Tomorrow, oh gag? I just threw up a little bit........
I love this school, but I know that they wait list almost everyone.....🙁
Not hoping for much.

Just checked my status and there has been no change, it still says my app is under review. I guess the midnight status change was just a legend 🙁

I don't recall midnight ever being part of the deal with Pitt... they manually update your status during the day IIRC.

Anyone know what time exactly today we should expect to hear the admissions decision

Anyone excited for the big day? We already have enough people currently viewing this thread to start a party

WL is definitely still hopeful. At my interview, they promised to reduce the massive WL size of last year because they said it was "unfair to the students".

Decisions are up. Waitlisted 🙁

I'm sorry goldnuts 🙁
I remember from last year's thread they waitlist practically everyone so I'm already psychologically bracing for this. My status has not changed yet.

Stay positive, folks.

Best thing about being waitlisted? IT'S NOT A REJECTION.

They've already reduced the interview pool this year. I was told directly not to worry about being waitlisted. And if they're trying to reduce the size of the waitlist even further, that means that a WLing is even MORE in your favor.

This is a long and difficult process (and this is only the first step!) and it's easy to get discouraged, what with all the waiting on pins and needles. But even though this probably isnt the success you were hoping for, it is still a success. Inch by inch...

I'm still hopeful, because this school totally blew me away with how right it seemed for me, but because I interviewed fairly recently, I'm not expecting a decision today. More waiting. Hopeful waiting, but waiting nonetheless.

Chin up, y'all (or should i say yinz?) :xf:

Waitlisted also.
But honestly, I'm more upset about the Steelers losing last night. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good news in the spring 🙂

Waitlisted here too. 🙁 but that for the pep talk. I really needed that 🙂

When did you interview? Mine isn't up yet.

I know the WL is not a rejection but with no acceptances yet it still sucks. I already sent in an update letter/LOI and an additional LOR so I am pretty much out of cards.

Anyways, I interviewed on 9/22.

I am sorry we have not been hearing better news here, but I think that the waitlist is a good place to be based on all that I have heard. Can people who have heard back please post interview dates? I interviewed in October so I am unsure if I will hear back today or not... Thanks!

When they say theyre trying to reduce the waitlist, I think they mean that given a similar number of applicants, they are trying to go ahead and accept more and waitlist fewer, so decreasing the number of people on the waitlist would be LESS in your favor.

I interviewed on 9/17

Did you get an e-mail?
Be sure to check out last year's thread, and you will see that the WL is where most wind up, and people ultimately winded up doing fairly well on the WL :xf::luck:

WL too 🙁 and I felt after the interview that I would surely get in during the first roung. Let's sing it all together "We've got HIGH HOPES"

They can't give out more acceptances than they have spots. If you are waitlisted, and the waitlist is small, that means your chance of being eventually accepted is higher, because there is a smaller waitlist pool from which to draw from.

Plenty of schools give out more acceptances than they have spots. Is Pitt not one of them?

Curious as to what order they are updating status, because I interviewed on 9/13 and still don't have anything. Alphabetical perchance? If you interviewed before a certain date??? Who knows?

Actually most schools give out more acceptances than they have spots as the percentage of people who eventually matriculate is fairly consistent every year. Now with Pittsburgh, I heard that the reason they waitlist so heavily is because the system backfired one year. They overaccepted as usual, but by chance way more people than they expected chose to matriculate. They offered tuition scholarships to people if they deferred a year, and ended up losing lots of money. Big waitlist is how this is avoided. Again, just something I heard on the interview trail.

Also, can someone who has received a decision already post how/where you were informed?

Are you sure about that? Most schools do accept more people than actually matriculate when you look at the stats, but I've always interpreted those acceptances as total number of people who were eventually accepted at some point in the cycle. So there are 150 spots, for instance, and the initial crop of acceptances goes out of 150, with 300 waitlisted. If half of those waitlisted eventually are accepted because someone with an acceptance drops out, then the school has accepted 300 students. So yes, the school has given out more acceptances than they have spots, but many of them came from the waitlist.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT: oops, another poster has confirmed that i'm mistaken here. that's what i get for assuming.

I see what youre saying, but I don't believe it is a one-to-one relationship between someone dropping out and then someone getting an acceptance. School straight up just accept more people than they have spots. For example, hopkins has a class of 120, and they only took 3 people off the WL last year. I know they gave out 200 acceptances at least.

yeah I'm curious too... I interviewed 9/14 and don't have an update. Maybe it's alphabetical, but my last name starts with a D and haven't heard. so nervous...

Yep, me neither. I interviewed 9/15.... no news. Oh well, more waiting...what's new.

I interviewed earlier than that and haven't heard anything...

Has anyone received an acceptance yet?

Keep your head up. Don't let up, just keep slayin' 'em.

Not here, it looks like only bad news updates so far.

I checked out last year's thread, and noticed a few things that might be helpful:

To those who haven't heard back, and interviewed at a hear-back-able time: they seem to release good news in one chunk, bad news in another. Nobody has heard good news yet, so those of you who haven't heard anything yet... it might be a good sign 🙂

To those who just got waitlisted (myself included!!!), this is NOT the end of the road. A significant amount of waitlistees heard back, but not until March-April. If last year is an indication, that's the amount of time we all have to do awesome things and send letters of update/ interest.

So, what I'm saying is, we'll have to hold off on having that "accepted to Pitt party" this weekend, and start inviting people to the much more awesome four-month "waitlist" party. Hooray!

How long after the "bad news" chunk did the "good news" chunk come. Same day? Not that I am necessarily expecting good news 😛

If I'm remembering correctly, acceptances were sent out first, and rejections/ waitlists were sent out the day after. Here's hoping that tomorrow brings good news for you guys!

I had about 6 different dreams of being WL/rejected/accepted last night and im still waiting for the status to be updated..u guys feel me >.<

Another waitlist here, good look to everyone still waiting!

Did anyone receive a decision in less than the 8 week timetable that they give on the site? I too am obsessively checking but had an October interview so its only been about a month for me.

a classmate's status changed today (waitlisted), and he interviewed in early october.

my status has not changed, and i interviewed in late october.

Accepted!!! 🙂 Interviewed 9/13 Good luck to all!!!
