Hey if anyone has an interview here tomorrow or Wednesday and are staying at the Hampton Inn University Center or near and wants to grab food and/or drinks tomorrow night PM me. I'm planning on getting to know the Oakland area.

Rejected pre-interview...I was kinda expecting this with my sub-par MCAT but considering I've lived in Pittsburgh since I was 6, am about to finish undergrad at Pitt, and want to stay here, this hurts.

Ouch. Chin up buddy. It's not the end of the world. :luck:

Pitt oh how you made me fall in love with you this week during my interview day. It's going to be a LONG 8-10 weeks wait.

Please love me back.

Yeah, the interview was great! Everyone there was really nice and seemed genuinely happy to be there. It was refreshing. It's the type of school where you really see yourself fitting in. The first day of snow for the year was my interview day! That was fun! Now, 6-8 week wait. :xf:

Hi everyone! Good luck to all of you during the rest of the interview season.

If you have any questions about Pitt's 3rd and 4th year curriculum (or anything else about Pitt), let me know! I'm getting ready to graduate in May.

Accepted - Yes!! 🙂 🙂 Interview 10/20.

wow, did not expect to get a decision this soon, but waitlisted. interviewed 11/15.

That was quick. I interviewed 11/2 and I got nothing.

yeah I was surprised, I checked it on a whim and there it was on the status page. They told us we wouldn't find out until late january, wonder why mine got processed so quickly? I'm really hoping it's for good reasons and not bad reasons, I absolutely love Pitt.

but from the posts earlier in the thread it seems like they update the waitlist-ers first and then the acceptances/rejections, so hopefully that means good news for you! :xf:

anyone else from november have a decision?

Interviewed 11/3 here and still nothing. Early Jan is when I would expect a decision, but I'll probably be checking pretty often now.

I checked today and got waitlisted 🙁. Interviewed 10/26

Also, does Pitt reject ppl post interview, or do they just put everyone who is not accepted onto the waitlist. I'm trying to calculate my odds of coming off wait...850 interviewed-250 initial acceptances=600. Then if they do reject, maybe they reject half of those=300. And based on previous posts they offer maybe 100 waitlist acceptances? So odds are 1/3 to come off the list? Does that sound right?

Oh yes indeed!! I was rejected post interview, but that's cool. Best of luck to you in this process. Pitt really does seem to love the waitlist game., but not with me

well if you're just blindly guessing how many they reject, then you're pretty much blindly guessing your odds of coming off the waitlist. So I'm not sure what to think unless you ask the school directly. They definitely do give rejections though.

Looking at previous years though, it seems that they're willing to give 4 times as many acceptances as seats available, so maybe around 400 acceptances total?

Then again I understand that this year, they gave out fewer interviews, sooo things might be very different.

They may give out 400 acceptances, but that's not even 3 times as many acceptances as seats available (148, IIRC).

Accepted too!! omg I thought someone calls you or something hahaha I'm so confused -___- can't believe I thought to check only because I randomly decided to check this thread.

but yay! waited for so long for first acceptance 😛 interviewed late October.

Congrats, that is amazing to find out so unexpectedly, especially your first acceptance.
You better party tonight 🙂

If yield rates stay the same (and they've only been moving up), then Pitt will accept a total of about 350 people, including everyone off the waitlist for a class of ~150, so around 2.3 people per spot.

Congrats to those that were already accepted! Definitely come to Second Look if you are seriously considering coming to Pitt, it will be a great time!

For those on the waitlist, keep your chins up! There will be some very good movement sometime early next year. I probably met a good amount of you on interview day. If you are on the waitlist and this is your top choice, definitely make it known that you would come here if accepted and tell them why you want to be here or why you would fit in. Good luck!

I was waitlisted in November, and I was told by a woman from admissions that I should write a letter sometime in the "spring" to let them know that I was still interested. Would January be too soon to write a LOI, or should I wait until March or so when it's more "spring-ish?"

Yea I definitely way over estimated when I was looking at 2008 data where there were 450 acceptances and 150 enrolled.

So yield rates are going up, does that mean they might be giving less acceptances this year? So basically if yield rates go up, then they would accept less people from the waitlist and there are fewer acceptances given out?

So here is what I know... This year Pitt planned on interviewing 850 people, and accepting 350. That gives you an initial chance of ~40%. I also know that last year about 2/3 (or 100 students) of the class came off of the wait list. Pitt did also say that they plan on accepting more students off of the wait list this year although I'm not sure you can get much higher than 100 students with a class size of 150. But anyways, you can continue your speculating from there 🙂

Just got the annual Pitt "Happy Holidays" email. It was a nice gesture, but seeing "[email protected]" in the From field made me think I was somehow miraculously getting off the waitlist early. lol @ myself for getting so worked up even though I knew it was coming... (from reading past year's threads)

I got the email too and initially before reading it I was like :scared: then I checked it and was like 🙄. of course they would send something like that to get the hopes of neurotic pre-meds up.

I too was expecting something more profound than a generic holidays email. Somewhere in the inner sanctum of the UPitt admissions building, some administrator is chuckling to him/herself for causing all this commotion

Haha, I remember those. Expect a couple more, especially if you are awaiting decision or are on the waitlist. Kind of mean to get you all excited (or afraid,) but I think its just their way of trying to stay in your mind, much like you might send them an update.

I interviewed at Pitt on 9/28 and haven't heard anything from them save for today's holiday note. At what point would it be reasonable to drop the admissions office a line to see what my status is? Given that people who interviewed in Oct. and Nov. have heard decisions, I've started to get a bit antsy.

Edit: To clarify, I have been checking online.

I would definitely call and check, I interviewed nearly a month and a half after you and have already received a decision. It is possible that they haven't gotten to your application or are still deciding, but for your own sanity it would be good for you to call and confirm since many who have interviewed after you know their decisions. It is still within the 8 week window they gave, but Pitt is really great about getting things done quickly so your situation seems a bit off. Good luck!

Thanks to everyone with information about the waitlist! Just checked today and saw that I am on the waitlist (interviewed 1st week of November). Staying hopeful, though 🙂

Yep, almost everyone was waitlisted. I am sure a good number of us will get in.

Welcome to the waitlist club 🙂

Just checked today. WL'd. interviewed at the end of october.

trying to remain hopeful.

LOVED the school. WL'd last week (interviewed mid Oct). I was initially super bummed, then I read this thread and saw that pretty much everybody is being waitlisted.

Then I also remembered that they're accepting 40%!
That's a lot! Those are some good odds!

Chin up, my fellow waitlisted folk!

fyi, pitt stopped interviewing on the 17th.

from an email sent to current students at pitt....

"Currently there are 832 applicants who have been interviewed (the final ones on Friday, Dec 17th) and are still holding at Pitt Med. The committee has reviewed 480, leaving 352 to go"

good luck :luck:

Any decisions from Pitt recently?

has everyone just been checking their status page obsessively? or will pitt send out some sort of email telling us that our status page as updated? I WANT TO FIND OUT THEIR DECISION AS SOON AS IT'S AVAILABLE!! haha.... interviewed 11/29, btw. I guess I still have a long time to wait.

Obsessive checker right here, although I try to limit myself to once per day.

<-- Obsessive checker

I have a tab with their admissions page perma-open on my laptop, and I tend to check it every time I get on computer 😳.

Pitt oh how you made me fall in love with you this week during my interview day. It's going to be a LONG 8-10 weeks wait.

Please love me back.

Oh man tell me about it! I loved everything on my interview day. Definitely would be happy going here 🙂

The link is correct and the site has been up for me all day. Now if only there was a decision there....

Is anybody else applying to the PSTP? It sounds amazing, but they only accept 6 students and on a rolling basis. Is it even worth the effort at this point, especially since I'm on the waitlist?

I interviewed at Pitt on 11/10 and haven't heard a peep yet- today marks 8 weeks exactly. Anyone else in my shoes? Getting to be a little freaked out... I want to hear some good news! :xf:

You're not alone. I interviewed 9 weeks ago here. They probably took some time off for the holidays.

Accepted this afternoon, no WL, interviewed on 11/3.

IS 37Q/3.5 Non-trad w/ lots of research and pubs.

I'm pulling for the rest of you still waiting, this board has been a real treat. I'm still in disbelief to be on the inside looking out right now. Everybody at my interview seemed smarter than me so I'm sure I'll see y'all again soon.
