This happened to me as well. My AMCAS was verified 7/16 and I received the secondary 7/19. I submitted the secondary two days later and kept checking every day for my letters to be received. I figured it said "several weeks to be downloaded" so I would try to be patient. On 8/16 right when I was going to contact them to check if there was a problem, I received an email from the admissions office stating that my file was incomplete. I emailed them back right away telling them how I had assigned my letters when I submitted my AMCAS so they should be in their system and I thought they were just waiting to be downloaded. A few hours later the day I got the incomplete email, the staff emailed me back saying that my application was complete...so I dunno...I feel like my letters got "lost" in their system 🙁 I don't know how much sooner my application could've been completed by...

i emailed them on monday after i got my incomplete email, but i haven't received a response yet. i sent it to [email protected]... is that the right one? i think i'll just call them tomorrow.

weird, so i just checked my status and it says my secondary is complete... but i never received an email saying my application is complete. did anyone else receive (or not receive) an email saying their secondary was complete?

Someone from the admissions staff emailed me back telling me my application was complete and to expect an email from the office saying something to that extent as well but I haven't received an official application complete email from them...at least my status says complete.

I'm OOS. I received this e-mail on 07/26:

"...The University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) has received all secondary materials necessary to complete your admissions file. Your application will now be reviewed to determine your relative competitiveness for an interview..."

fyi i just got a completed email from UWSOM, despite the status page saying i have been complete for over a week. interviews begin oct 11!!! i hope we all get one 👍

The Admissions Committee for the University of Washington School of Medicine has completed its preliminary review of your application. As an out-of-region candidate, you did not meet the criteria for further consideration to the regular medical school program. We thank you for your interest in our School of Medicine.

its OK, this school was a long shot! At least they didn't waste my time writing essays for a secondary.

Good luck everyone!

Sorry to hear that. 🙁 Had you received any correspondences from UWSOM previously (and if so, when)? However, you have an amazing outlook on the process — keep that going and you'll hopefully come out of this admissions cycle very successful. :luck:

on July 18th I received an email that they were doing a preliminary review of my app that could take a month to six weeks.

Pretty much all I can do is maintain a positive attitude, my GPA is low but I'm hoping some school will love me anyway!

got this too yesterday. Good luck to everyone else. Not unexpected, but still sad.

I wouldn't worry too much, I have a 3.3 GPA and I made #43 on the wait list last year (#40 was the last to get in) so anything is possible.

i got my email too! it would be so sick to get an interview for this school. This is by far my favorite OOS school

I have a question for anybody who knows how to answer it.

I've made it known that, so help me God, I am getting into this school or I will die trying. In the not unlikely event that this school tells me to piss off for any number of reasons, one of which being state residency, I was planning to take a job for a year and live up there to establish state residency. That wouldn't be a B.S. move either, I am not kidding about family ties. I have more reason to be there than I have to be here.

With that said, rumor has it that the state of Washington is tightening its residency requirements somewho or another to prevent OOS people from establishing residency to get into their schools. Does anybody have any sources on that claim, or information on precisely what is being tightened up?
In Alaska you have to have in state residence starting TWO years PRIOR to the date that you would start medical school. So for example, I need to show that I have been an Alaskan resident since 9/1/09 since I would start 9/11/11.

I don't think they're tightening up residency requirements, but don't quote me on that. This is the link they have on the secondary application for residency. Basically, you have to live in the state for one year for purposes other than education.

Call Dana in the residency office and confirm....do you have to have been a resident 12 months before you apply? Or before classes begin? I think it is 12 months before you apply, which is a year before you begin classes.

Though I do know for non UW schools a graduate student friend had to be 12 months in state at the time of matriculation not application, she called as that did make a difference for her, but each school is slightly different.

Call and check, Dana was very helpful when I called last year.

does anyone know the admission stats for re-apps? i know this school accepts quite a few... i also heard that UW does not accept many undergraduates from UW. is this true?

Got my Montana certification letter today, but a couple hours later the school emailed me to tell me my application wasn't complete due to my state not certifying me haha. I think I will just wait a couple of days and then if it doesn't change I guess I'll call them.

Did you go to the web site and fill out their "second primary" yet? If not, you should go do that; I never got any notification to do it, I just saw it on the web site and filled it out. A few days later I got invited to fill out the true secondary, which is just the same as the MD-only one (an autobiographical statement and stuff about your current activities).

No, I'm actually collecting this year's prompts from all of the schools I'm applying to next year in hopes of getting a head start. I'll have about 20 or so schools in my bag and would utterly loathe starting from scratch, especially since I'll be in the later applicant pool (i.e., by taking both Orgos in summer '11 with an August '11 MCAT test date).

But it's good to know it's the same 2ndary, thanks!

Complete as of today. I ended up not having to call the school the picked up my Montana certification automatically.

You must submit a brief autobiographical statement. It should describe the origin and development of your motivation to be a physician, your prior experiences in health care, steps taken to explore a career in medicine, your eventual goals as a physician, and other issues of importance. The Personal Comments section of the AMCAS application may be used to satisfy this requirement, or an additional autobiography may be submitted with your supplemental materials. Your AMCAS personal statement will already be on file with our office.

Other Personal Comments or Publications (list abstracts)

What's the word limit on the main prompt?

I called and asked. No strict limit but try to keep it around one page single spaced.

uh oh... all my responses are closer to two pages rather than 1. i hope they don't look poorly on that 🙁 i doubt they'll end up reading it all 🙁🙁🙁

It is longer than 5300 chars? They mentioned that it should be about the same length as your PS, if you were to add anything at all.

I wouldn't worry though. They didn't define the limits at all so the applicants can't be blamed.

im sure theyll read it. they never specified a limit, even though they may have a certain range in mind and im sure they didnt expect thousands to call and ask

i hope so. i actually was afraid of that so i began most of my essays with an introduction that specifically stated what was to come. i.e. for the re-applicant section, i first stated what i did and wrote that the following will elaborate on each activity and what i learned...i knew it was gonna be long anyway but i hope that made it easier on them.

ONE MONTH TIL INTERVIEW SEASON AT UW STARTS!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍

by the way, does UW accept update letters? i got this really cool medical position that i want them to know about...

(... says the person who is wondering if UW will even read what he wrote because of the length ...) 😀😀

Hello, I'm a Canadian permanent resident (not citizen, though), can I apply to this school?

Thanks guys.

Has anyone seen the MSTP (MD/PhD) prompts? If so and they're different, would someone mind posting them please?

Thanks!

How long did your letters from AMCAS take to be "receieved" on your status page? The rest of my application has been complete for about a week.

* Shout-out to UW re-apps!

Mine took about 6 weeks! And I had to call and ask them about the letters twice 😀

I think my letters of rec took about 7 or 10 days after sending them out to be "received" by AMCAS. Remember that unless you've previously designated the letter entries to specific schools, you will need to re-submit your application after the letters are received in order to actually send them out to medical schools!

I got the rejection email today - 4.0 and 33

For OOS, the cut-off is not based on numbers alone but whether you closely match what they're looking. Among other things, these factors are a.) interest for going into primary care b.) experience with and/or commitment to working with underserved population.

I guess - but I got the rejection email on the same day my mcat scores were released - so there had to have been a correlation (Unless they had already made a decision about my application and were just waiting for the mcat release to send the rejection)

I am OOS with no ties to Wash, also got a 33 on my MCAT and I got a 2ndary... so unless you really bombed one of the section on the MCAT... I would bet good money the rejection is not based on your score.

does anyone know if UW accepts update letters? i sent them an email about a week ago but they haven't responded yet

I'm an OOS applicant, got the initial email I didn't make the SOM requirements, however I could apply MSTP, which I am.

I filled out the pre-supplementary and turned it in a couple days ago, and received the invite to complete the full secondary.

On the page it says that the secondary is complete when all parts on the left hand side have green checkmarks, but something is off I think.

There is green check next to payment, which I have to mail in (I haven't done this) Is the fee waived for MSTP? or is this just a mistake.

Also a green check isn't appearing next to the legal statement link, is anyone else getting these problems as well?

I'm MSTP and definitely paid a fee! Maybe call the MSTP office. They are super helpful!

According to last year's thread, they should be sending out invites around this time.

Invite or Reject, I'm expecting to hear back by next week. 🙂

Anyone heard anything yet? I checked last year's thread and several invites were already sent by this date, even to OOS.

I've been eagerly checking my mailbox everyday. I've been complete since 07/26 so even if it's a reject, I want to find out this week. :xf:

I havent read my complete email in a while but I couldve sworn that it implied that OOS wouldnt be evaluated until nov/dec or something. I could be mistaken though

Is it taking anyone else forever for UW to upload their letters? My AMCAS was complete 8/4, verified on 8/30 but UW status page still says they haven't uploaded my letters. That's the last thing until my application is complete. Ugh.
