I think they make their calls in the afternoon . . . ?

Yeah, I kind of got that impression. SpAnK, since you know just about everything about Wayne, any idea what the waitlist is looking like this year?

Thanks, but I definitely do NOT know everything. As evidence, I have no idea what the waitlist is looking like. I can tell you, from past years experience, that this is when most of the waitlist movement occurs, from now through June.

It appears that they start calling people in the afternoon. Since the call can come anytime during the week from now until the start of classes (yes, it does happen), make sure your contact information is up to date and that you keep your phone on you, if you can.

But don't panic if you don't hear anything right away. Like I said, waitlist season just started.

I know everyone is anxious and nervous; I was wreck up until yesterday afternoon. It wasn't doing me any good. I would say be prepared, but don't give yourself a heart attack.

Hopefully all of you who are currently waiting for a spot will get one. In years past, approximately 78% of those waitlisted were eventually offered admission. I don't know the exact numbers; they're on previous threads.

However, in years past they interviewed less OOSer's. Because they've been interviewing more, that percentage may drop, although not terribly. In other words, statistics is on your side.

Hope this helps.

PM me if you'd like.

anyone know if this z-score business is going to change next year, or anytime in the near future?

When waitlisters are offered acceptance (and hold other acceptances), how long do they have to accept or decline the offer?

Last Monday, May 16 was the cut-off date to hold multiple acceptances:

"By May 15th of the year of matriculation, a applicant who has received offers of admission from more than one school should choose the one school that he or she prefers and withdraw from all other schools to which he or she has been accepted.

By May 15th of the year of matriculation, a applicant who has received offers of admission from more than one school should choose the one school that he or she prefers and withdraw from all other schools to which he or she has been accepted.

(*)Prior to May 15th of the year of matriculation, an applicant should be given at least two weeks to reply to an offer of admission. After May 15, schools may require applicants to respond to acceptance offers in less than two weeks. An applicant may be required to file a statement of intent, or a deposit, or both. This statement of intent should provide freedom to withdraw if the applicant is later accepted by a school that he or she prefers.

7. It is recommended that the acceptance deposit not exceed $100 and be refundable until May 15th. After that date, a school may retain the deposit as a late withdrawal fee. If the applicant matriculates at that school, the school is encouraged to credit the deposit toward tuition.

8. Subsequent to June 1st, a school of medicine seeking to admit an applicant already known to be accepted by another school for that entering class should advise that school of its intent. Because of the administrative problems involved in filling a place accepted just prior to the commencement of the academic year, schools should communicate fully with each other with respect to anticipated late roster changes in order to keep misunderstandings at a minimum."

For Wayne State specifically, this is what they say in their instructions for holding your place:

"Your place will be held in the entering class for three weeks from the date of your letter of offer."

Letters of offer are dated on the day they call you, I'm assuming.

I assume they release those spots as soon as they receive notification that they will not be accepting the offer.

I called the admissions office and asked how often they offer spots and she said they will begin offering once a few positions open up at a time. They plan on calling applicants 1-2 times per week once openings accumulate to offer positions to those on the WL.

The anticipation is killing me. I hope there is significant movement. I wish I knew when they were going to call.

Me too, me too. The anticipation/anxiety is both overwhelming and distracting. I'm trying to force myself to grieve with the assumption that I didn't get in this year; helps with focusing on the present and making plans for the near future. However, it's difficult to accept this while I'm nervously checking the signal on my phone throughout the day. If I do get accepted, I will treat it as a wonderful gift from the Universe. And ultimately, if it doesn't happen, at least I've spent my time productively.

For those of you have gotten "the call" off the waitlist, does admissions also send you an email? The reason I'm asking is that I'm out of the country right now for several weeks and thus I won't be getting mail and I don't feel like turning on my phone because it will cost me an arm and a leg for international service. Thanks!

Yes. They send you an offer email with stuff you need to print out, sign, and send back.

thanks! good to know! now i don't have to constantly worry about my phone

In my situation, they called me and left a message and then once I returned the call and confirmed my interest, they sent me the offer letter via e-mail. It might be helpful to e-mail the admissions office and let them know of your situation and ask them to e-mail you.

Good Luck!!

Just out of curiosity, how long does it take for the admission packet (or whatever they send you) to be sent out? I want to make sure Wayne got my FAFSA and my financial aid is sorted out . . .

To anyone still on the alternate list: has anyone started MCAT studying like I have? yup I have to prep for a retake :/

Hi
can anyone tell me where to find the physical examination form?
I couldn't find it anywhere.
Also, who is supposed to be the witness for the confidentiality agreement
and the hepatitis vaccine forms?
Thank you!!!

Yes, I have started studying as well. But the little hope that's left from being on the WL isn't helping me take it as seriously as I should. I've also started filling out my primary app. Better to be safe than sorry!

Agreed. I cant afford to waste all my time just waiting until august. I havent started my primary yet though.

i would strongly advise against it! i studied for a retake for the last couple months thinking that i won't get off one of my 5 WLs. took the mcat today and ended up voiding my score...

its pretty difficult to be 100% confident that you'll increase your previous score by 3-4 points at the very least

Im so sorry to hear that. I could use 3-4 points so I'm hoping for at least that unless by some miracle i get accepted off the WL :xf:

hi everyone! first off congrats to everyone who has been accepted and chin up! to everyone still waiting.

sorry to change the topic, but i'm prepping my app right now and was wondering if any of you had any insight as to how an OOS grad student with a 3.4 and a 32S mcat would fare for wayne state? i'm trying to eliminate schools off my list and just want to see if i should eliminate wayne state. thanks and best of luck to everyone!

To "amandaeleven": Thank you very much!

To "citrusguy2010": The good news is that, from what I've seen, Wayne State really likes OOS grad students. Your MCAT is perfect for WSU. The only thing to worry about seems to be the GPA. Since you're a grad student, I'm assuming that 3.4 is your grad GPA. When WSU rejects undergrads with low GPAs, they oftentimes advise them to do a grad program and try to have a better GPA in that program. In that sense, your GPA might hurt you. At the same time, depending on the exact circumstances of your grad program, and with a little luck, things may go your way.

Summary: Don't eliminate Wayne State from your list.

thanks for the response! actually 3.9 is my grad gpa and 3.4 is my undergrad gpa

By the way, I'm IS

Congrats Spankz. I am really happy for you as well.
Did you by any chance work for Detroit R&D? you might know the professor i am working for right now who is collaborating with them right now. Good luck at WSUSOM.

Thanks Pr0xy! No, I never worked for Detroit R&D. I have been working at the University of Michigan since 2008.

After thinking about it, I'm in! OOS, 30O, non trad. So excited!

To "citrusguy2010": If that's the case, you'll get in for sure.

anybody call today to see if the class is full?

I just withdrew my acceptance; IS, 30Q, 3.85 (accepted May 4th). Good luck to everyone on the waitlist!

Being on this waitlist is like having bipolar disorder... :scared:  😱 😀 🙁

Thanks for letting us know. I'm sure many people here appreciate it.

Just curious, why did you choose to go to Oakland as opposed to Wayne?

Got the call! IS, 3.88 UG, 3.8 BCPM, 33R, standard ECs. Good luck to everyone else waiting.

Damn you were waitlisted? I'd have thought those stats would've gotten u an acceptance without waitlist. So unlss its due to ECs being as u said "standard" or ur letters or essays I don't get why you were waitlisted in the first place.

Congratulations.

Yeah, I don't get this either...but I'm in a some what similar situation with a little lower GPA. It's my second year applying and I'm on the waitlist here and one other place. My stats are:

Res: OOS but grew up in MI and went to UG there
GPA: 3.5
MCAT: 34 (PS 13 VR 9 BS 12)
Extracurricular: about 4 years research (good recs from well known professors of medicine)
abstracts published and full publications in progress
1000 hours community service, ~200 of which was hospitals
60+ Hours of physician shadowing

Interviews seemed ok, I was able to connect with my interviewer.

My essays were...not great...but not terrible either.

I'm starting to work on next years application and I'm not sure what to do to improve my application this time around. Any suggestions?

Wow. You seem like u have a great app. Not sure what to tell u. Other then just keep taking some classes. Maybe bring it up to 3.6 if you can. Not sure else u can improve upon other then that. And just keep shadowing or volunteering on the side too to show ur continued interest in medicine.

Or do something like teach for america or peace corps. Maybe if you have a skill like a sport or music skill u can teach someone such as say disadvantaged people, do something like that. Something that makes u interesting.

I understand your frustration. I loathe completing that AMCAS application. I want the call more than anything so I can just ditch all of my efforts for the upcoming application. Oh, and so I can go to medical school, finally.

Is it just me, or does it seem that Wayne State's WL rankings are based purely on numbers?

Yeah, interestingly enough I was going to be a music major before I started being interested in science.

The 3.6 I've thought about, but given that I have taken a lot classes it might be a long road. I've thought about just doing a masters or an additional post-bacc at WSU to get my foot in the door a little.
