Complete surprise. I received a voicemail yesterday afternoon from Dr. Cather and returned the call this morning. I was offered a seat and intend to accept! 🙂

Interviewed in early January. OOS, B.S. Biology / B.A. Chemistry, 3.7 science, 3.89 non-science, 29Q 🙂mad🙂.

Best of luck to you all still waiting and congratulations to those that have been accepted!:xf:

Adcom meets on Tuesday, but how acceptances come out is a little mistery. Last year I was accepted on Monday.

I just withdrew after getting into another school. WVU is an awesome school but the OOS tuition is a little too high for me.

Good luck to everyone and hopefully you all get in! 👍

Tapepsi, of course money matter, who would argue, but........... I hope you realize - after such decision our communication will have to be reduced to zero 😡

No, it is a joke  Congratulations!
And thanks for letting people know about your decision.

Ha ha sorry Fortress. 😳 It was definitely a difficult decision especially b/c the school and Morgantown is so awesome.

What does that mean? Rejecting people at the bottom of the list?

This is part of the email I received at the beginning of the month

"There have been many questions about our “waitlist”. We cannot give out any sort of ranking or idea where you stand on the list. Anyone currently on the list is a potential acceptee, or we wouldn’t have you on it. At the end of May, we will begin to pare down our waitlist. If your initial committee ranking was on the low side and it is apparent that you aren’t going to be admitted to our school this year, we will send you a rejection letter then. Although this might sound harsh, I am hoping this will prompt you to see what you can do to improve your application for the future and give you enough time to do so."

Hm, this indeed does sound harsh. As far as I know, once you are on the WL you will either be accepted or remain on it until the very end, which is August 1st for WVU. It sounds like they have waitlisted too many people. Anyways. I don't want to introduce any delusions, but I will reiterate (because I believe I have mentioned it earlier): MANY, if not most, OOS people in my class were accepted during the summer. For this reason, it is definitely too early for anyone to get desperate.

However, if you really feel like you need to do something rather than just sit and wait: send out a strong letter of intent. Mention to them all the good things you have learned about the school and Morgantown during your interview. Make it WVU specific as much as possible. Medical schools LOVE to feel special. Don't forget to give them an update about your activities + your unbearable desire to become their student. In my opinion, calling / writing just to ask where you are on the WL, how soon you might get accepted, and so on is a waste of time.

Good luck to all of you! I hope that this thread will soon be flooded with posts from recently accepted folks.

I've done exactly that already, however I think I'm going to try to find a WVU alum in my state (AL) to shadow in the next month. Maybe get that doc to call on my behalf.

SO...anyone heard squat from that ominous email regarding the waitlist cuts? I wonder if it will be snail or e-mail.

Scratch that. It will be snail mail. A closer reading of e-mail revealed the truth.

Has anyone called recently to ask them about their progress? This waiting thing is getting old

Nothing new to call with yet down here. I really hate playing "hurry up and wait" also. However, it is giving me time to catch up on anime. Anyone get a mentor to call and check up on one's status at individual schools? Heard that was a big thing if one could get that done.

deathnote, claymore and bleach are the most pimped out anime on my list

I called Beth Ann today and got two things back.

1)There are currently some open spots and they will be give out very shortly.
2)The waitlist has been trimmed down and they are hoping to send out the information by Friday.

Hopefully everyone gets a call before Friday then.

Any idea how many open spots? And when you say it's been trimmed down, do you mean some of the waitlistees have already been rejected? Or do they plan to send rejections letters soon?

All she said was a couple, I figure two people dropped spots on SDN so at least 2. Not sure about the second question either, from the original email sent it sounds like everyone gets letter either saying No or Waitlist...again.

@Quiznos -- Very good choices but Naruto is worthy as well.

@everyone -- How many OOS SDNers are on the WL?

@ Fellow OOS people -- Just trying to get a handle on how many OOS are around. When I looked at original stats, an OOS receiving an interview invitation had/has a 25% shot at receiving an acceptance. Reckon they took more of us for interviews this year? My I-day was composed of only OOS (4 of us).

There were 5/7 OOS on my interview day. But hopefully we all get off this waitlist soon 👍

So what happened to those e-mails and acceptances that were supposed to go out on Friday?

Are they just accepting people off the waitlist who aren't on SDN? I don't understand. If you have open spots, shouldn't you offer those immediately?

Ladies and gentlemen, I just got the call. Can't wait to move to Morgantown.

Congratulations Hamels. I'm sincerely glad to hear that OOS folks are getting some Mountaineer lover now.

Accepted, got the call about an hour ago. Good luck to everyone else still waiting
