hey guys,

I have never been to cleveland, and I don't know anyone who's from cleveland. Could someone tell me more about what cleveland is like? Somehow, I don't think the "hastily made tourism video of cleveland" is a comprehensive representation of Cleveland. I don't think I will really get to see what cleveland is like when I go to visit Case. I can also give you my email address if you would rather answer me privately!

I am so excited to visit Case 🙂 students all seem happy there(more so than any other places) and I want to learn more about what makes the students so happy.

Thanks!

In my opinion, Cleveland isn't really as bad as people like to say it is. In summary...

Housing is cheap and there's comparatively little traffic. A few areas are not great, but the hospitals are well patrolled and there are many good neighborhoods you can live in. (This is true for almost anywhere, regardless) As for things to do, there's actually quite a number of great restaurants, we have the second largest showing of musicals/shows/plays at the PlayHouse square after NYC, the orchestra is world class (and as Case students we get tickets for $10!), and the West Side Market is a huge farmer's market with lots of great vendors.

Of course, it's not NYC/SF/Chicago/LA, so if you're expecting things to do to pop out at you overwhelmingly, you're likely to be disappointed. But if you make a little effort, you'll be fine. As for myself, since I'm from the west coast, the most difficult part has been the winter. I've learned to deal with it, but I doubt I'll ever like it.

But overall, I've been pleasantly surprised at how liveable Cleveland has been. It may not ideal, but it gets far less credit than it deserves.

Feel free to PM me too if you want to discuss any specifics. 🙂

UP rejection. Not gonna lie...this one is pretty crushing. Good luck to everyone who's left in the running -- hope Case likes you more than they like me.

I'm sorry, Mazdave. You found out today (as in, on a Saturday)? I wish you luck in your other applications.

Don't worry, I am 99.99 % positive that I will also receive a rejection imminently (not just from CWRU). Since I work a few floors up from the admissions office, I could always go down there and ruffle some feathers (e.g.: throw coffee on the computers).

But, that probably wouldn't be in anyone's best interest.

 It will all depend on what cities you ARE familiar with andd what particular aspects of the city you are interested in. I am betting you are not from the midwest? PM me you email address and I will see what I can do.

thank you so much! I am fine with the cold and snow, so I think I'm set!

I went for undergrad and grad. I work there now. They can't seem to get rid of me!

Good luck! Hopefully our alma mater shows us some love 🙂

Nice! I'm currently in a combined ugrad and grad program a few floors below the admissions office. I'm so tempted just to go beg, or drop off some cupcakes. My stats are horribly average, but hopefully EC's up the ass will carry some favor.

Good luck to you too 🙂

Did anyone else have trouble submitting a photo? I can't seem to shrink one down to just 25kb... That seems incredibly small. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Make sure the file type is jpeg from whatever u used to take the picture

It will be very small. When you submit, you can print out a PDF version of your app (which I imagine is very similar to what the admissions office prints out), the pic on it is less than 2inx2in.

Rejected!

Good luck to everyone else 🙂

Interview invite for university track! Pretty excited about this one!

They said I was "complete" on 8/4 but didn't get my MCAT back till 8/9 so probably wasn't really complete until 8/9 or 8/10.

Complete on 8/4, 25 days of silence, does Case do silent rejections?

Well at least they are rejecting and stuff for UP. Still no word on my UP. I was complete 8/8.

I think you should be okay, because I was complete on that date for the same program, and rejected last night.

Good luck!!!

Dear CWRU:
My finger grows tired from refreshing your status page. Please respond with an update before my mouse gives out completely.

Dear B&C,

You should take more responsibility for your own actions, so that when you are paying for your new mouse, you will know exactly who to blame.

Myuu

(In all seriousness, though, relaaaaax!)

Rejected!

Good luck to everyone else 🙂

Sorry to hear that, best of luck at your other schools.

Doesn't Case send "your status has been updated" emails? Unless something is different now, this seems unnecessary... 😕

We do, but that's probably not going to deter anyone from scripting an auto-refresh...

Or from making a lighthearted joke on a message board to vent some tension ... no need to take it quite so literally.

Sorry to hear that, best of luck at your other schools.

Thanks, but it was a long shot; I was also here for undergrad, grad, and I now work here, so I think I wore out my 'welcome.'

Complete 8/8
Put on hold for UP 8/30 (checked status on site, haven't gotten email letting my know that I've had a status update)
:xf::xf::xf: for CP

Lurking around this thread helps my happy levels 🙂. I'm glad to finally have something to report.

Goood Morning Cleveland! I've been up since 5 and managed to stay off SDN for the first hour or so! :d

Congrats to all those with interview invites! 👍

Good luck elsewhere those who didn't get one, too!:luck:

Busy week! Master's Classes begin today for CCLCM students working towards an MPH, and tomorrow is the beginning of the fall semester for Clinical Research (CMED 450: Intro To Clinical Trials). Looking to continue my 4.0 streak in Graduate school (only have had one graded course, with an 'A' so far...but still - never had a 4.0 before! :meanie:)

On the medical school side of things, this week I finish a manuscript for publication, am writing up an abstract for a conference in the spring, prepping a proposal for a future research project that is due soon, have the usual epidemiology and biostatistics classwork and reading assignments, and I gave a presentation to the facilitators yesterday giving them feedback on giving us feedback (how existential is that?).

Oh, plus the kiddies started school - so the usual drama/parent meetings/getting into a routine at home stuff is well-underway!

Not to mention eating and sleeping. 😏

Now, if you'll excuse me - off do prep for a class on meta-analysis!

Good day!🙂

I'd say apply, by the end of next week. Give it a shot. Apply to both the CCLCM thing and the University Program--the secondary is 80 or 85 regardless (I forgot how much exactly) to apply to both.

Kill two birds with one (expensive) stone, in my opinion.

Took your advice and applied. Got secondaries...and uh uh. Yeah I should've started earlier...but to me, it's the topics (not the number of required essays) that really bother me. The whole "self-improvement" and "criticism" reminds me of chicken soup for the soul books. :meanie:

Well, if they bother you that much...

+pissed+

With all honesty, they aren't that bad. It was actually one of the questions I got for my mock interview once too. I just wished those two were grouped into a single essay question, that's all.

Funny because that's what I thought too. I actually wrote them together and then pulled them apart.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but how long does it take to hear back if a student is willing to host you? Thanks in advance 🙂

Complete 8/16
Rejected 8/31

Does Case answer questions on why students were rejected pre-interview? I'm guessing it was because of my GPA (~3.55), or my weak-ish research experience.

interview invite letters have links to the hosting info. for UP you fill out an online form - i think i was contacted within a few days after that with a host name and email. for CP the link is to an excel spreadsheet, and you contact them yourself. everyone responds very promptly.

rejected to UP 🙁

do we still stand a chance at CCLCM if we were rejected to UP?

I really liked Case. Can we appeal their decision?

Thanks guys

When were you complete? I would think CCLCM would be faster in giving a response...

Is there an official hold status? I was complete 8/3 and rejected from the college track two weeks ago, but no status is under UP. Good/bad/neutral sign?

Anyone know what time the interview day ends for UP? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the site. I'm trying to buy a plane ticket and I'm wondering if 5:50 would be cutting it too close.

One of the documents on iapply says: "Please note that your interview day may not end until 4pm, and we strongly recommend that you schedule any return flights after 6pm to ensure ample transit and check in time." So a flight at 5:50 is kind of borderline.

Complete around 8/2, interview invite for both university and college track. My top choice so far, awesome! Good luck to everyone.

Thanks! I was searching for that info for a half hour

Case offers a lot of interview dates. Practically, if I interview in Jan or February, will I be at a disadvantage relative to interviewing in December or November? I have no idea how this works with interviews... I assume earlier is better, as with returning secondaries, but perhaps it doesn't work like that.

Case will talk to you about your app, but probably not until the end of the cycle.

UP and CP decisions are independent. There is no appeals process.

There is an official hold status. I would say it's a neutral sign.

We are rolling admissions. While all applications have an equal shot at the time of consideration, one must account for acceptances that have already been given earlier in the cycle.

Status update email with no change online. Maybe if I think that I've been rejected, the opposite will be true? What layer of intention do the gods of narrative causality look at?

You won't be at a disadvantage, according to their admissions department. I interviewed on valentine's day last year and was accepted a week later. They say that they make sure to save enough spots so that everyone on every interview day has a chance of being accepted right away (unless their policy changed from last year - and I doubt it).

Apologies in advance if my question is addressed later in the thread.

I'm interested in heathcare research/economics and considering an MD/MBA but also interested in the CCLM program. From the secondary application, it looks like only a subset of dual degree programs are available to the college program, is this correct? If so, what dual degree program are available to CCLMers?

Thanks!
