Apologies in advance if my question is addressed later in the thread.

I'm interested in heathcare research/economics and considering an MD/MBA but also interested in the CCLM program. From the secondary application, it looks like only a subset of dual degree programs are available to the college program, is this correct? If so, what dual degree program are available to CCLMers?

Thanks!

Based on a presentation given to us earlier in the year, the list of existing dual degree programs @ CCLCM are, with varying amounts of classes needed and other requirements:

MD/MS in Biomedical Investigation
– Biochemistry (BIOC)
– Clinical Research Scholars Program (CRSP)
– Epidemiology (EPBI)
– Nutrition (NTRN)
– Pathology (PATH)
– Physiology and Biotechnology (PHOL)
– Pharmacology (PHRM)
MD/MPH Masters in Public Health
MD/MA in Bioethics
MD/MS in Biomedical Engineering

The CRSP program and the MPH are the more popular options, and I know of a few people who have done the BME masters as well.

If you really want to do a particular degree not listed, it's not impossible, but you'll have to talk to the faculty to see how realistic it is in terms of required classes/scheduling/time.

Fluffy is on top of things!

There is not enough potential overlap in the MBA curriculum, as I understand it, to be completed in the 5 years required. There is one student who received advanced permission to complete his/her MBA during these 5 years (that is, he received permission before matriculation) AND they had already been accepted to the b-school and completed many of the requirements before starting medical school. This is by far the exception, and not the rule.

Having said that, Dean Young encourages research into the business of medicine and healthcare delivery explicitly. CCLCM students are thus welcome to focus their research in such areas.

I have my CCLCM interview in a week. I can't wait!

I can't seem to find a straight answer if CWRU uses a MCAT cut off. I know the MSAR says 9 on verbal was the lowest... and I have an 8.

Anyone know whether they do or not?.. I have 11, 12 and Q for the rest but that darn 8 has been a thorn in my side... 🙁

We look at your whole application.🙂:luck:

Just received a status update email without actually having an update to my application. I see that at least one other person has received this. Does this signify a likely rejection?

Apparently the email with no status update means rejection. iApply updated this morning.

GL all

What's this?!!!😱 Second page? Let me step in here and fix this right away. No worries Casies, I got your back! Actually I was sort of expecting this. The Case team on SDN is sooooo good, they've done preemptive strikes on most questions, anticipating your needs and answering them up front. That is except for one question, "When do I get my interview?!!!"

I may or may not have gotten two interviews from the CP and the UP

I know this may be a bit of an obnoxious since it is along the lines of, "Why haven't I heard baaaack yet???", but it's been bugging me for a couple of days.

Does being "on hold" at UP count as a decision for UP? As in, now I'm just waiting for CCLCM to make a decision, right? Or is CCLCM going to wait until UP makes a final decision before notifying me of CCLCM's decision, since UP might still decide to interview me and so then they could schedule me back-to-back?

Thanks a bajillion, guys.

CCLCM will not wait at this point to extend you an interview, as far as I know.

Good luck!

I've been complete since 8/5, but I haven't heard anything back. iApply has nothing (not even holds). Anyone else in the same boat? Or should I call them?

I was marked complete on 8/1, and am yet to hear anything. Case is definitely near the top of my list, so I'm eagerly awaiting any news. At this point, however, I'm going to remain optimistic because a) it's still early in the cycle, there's plenty of time to still receive an II, and b) my stats aren't super high, so the fact that they haven't made a definitive decision given I was marked complete so long ago, should be interpreted positively (I would think).

Good luck!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed to the max.:xf:

No. You should give them until October to get back to you.

I know it's hard to wait, but you guys need to chill a little. Each of you applied to maybe ten or twenty schools, but both of the Case admissions offices are sifting through thousands of applications. Give them at MINIMUM eight weeks before you start calling them. And look at it this way: every minute that the admissions staff spends on the phone answering your questions is one less minute that they can spend uploading people's status information to Iapply. So unless you've been waiting for over two months already, or you have some other urgent question that you can't get answered anywhere else, try not to call and interrupt them.

Also, good luck with your apps, everyone. Of course I'm biased as an alum, but Case is an awesome school. 🙂

just got an interview invite. can't believe it! i cannot wait.

complete 8/1. hope to meet some of the med students on here 😍

just how optional is the optional scholarly essay? i did do research and it was a big part of my life during my sophomore year but at the same time i would love to skip it so i can move on to other secondaries. plus i feel like i write so poorly.

what do you think????

Already received both CP and UP rejections weeks ago and moved on from Case and tonight I got another e-mail about a status update (but no change). Glitch in iApply? Or is the UP rejecting me twice?

If you did do substantial research, I'd think you would be doing yourself a disservice to skip over an opportunity to emphasize what is a "big part" of your application. Don't think of the essays as hoops to jump through, but as chances for you to demonstrate who you really are.

Honestly, I have no faith in this status update email thing. Didn't get one when I my status changed for CP. Got one with no change for my status for UP. I am just going to pretend no decision has been made until I get the official word!

yeah i knwo what u mean but when u have liek 20 essays piled up its very tempting to skip over w/e u can get away with.

Indeed, I understand that which you meant, however, when you have, for example, 20 essays stacked in front of you it's very tempting to forgo one whever you are capable of doing so.

I agree 100% with Fluffy. If research is indeed integral to your formative pre-meds years, and you have 20 other essays to write - surely another of those essays can be answered with the same information with little modification? 😕 At the end of the day, it is optional. Your call.

HMM! Is it too early for this? No?

interview in a week too. 🙂 good luck everyone this coming week!!!

Video = AMAZING.

Definitely not too soon, in fact its motivating. That just made my night. Its going to be in my head for the next week (and that's not a bad thing).

Quick question for all you Clevelanders! After my interview at Case I am hoping to make my way up to New York. I was just wondering what are some of the best alternatives to airtravel in terms of time and money.
I understand greyhound will get me there in around 6+ hours. I was wondering if there were any trains or light rail systems anyone could recommend. I am from Canada so completely unaware of what might be best. Thanks for any help you can provide.

While there _is_ AMTRAK (light rail), it only leaves at bizarre hours of the night from Cleveland which is the reason why paradoxically a) no one takes it and b) they never alter the schedule (see a).🙁

I've been reading this thread since when it just a mere page but I felt too uncool to post but I think it's time.

Marked complete 08/30/201. Case is definitely my top choice so I am anxiously waiting and wishing and hoping...

Just got an interview tonight for BOTH UP and CCLCM! I'm so stoked.

I was complete 8/5. I guess just a little patience was needed.

I found this earlier in this thread for anyone who is interested - again, this isn't a statistics game but rather how strong you are as an applicant.

Range: 25-42
National Average: 31.1 (2010)

Average Age: 24.1 (Mean or Median?)
Range: 20-46

A median of 35.2 on the MCAT or a median age of 24.1 can't really be obtained mathematically from integer values, so I would guess those are means.

I'm not sure if this question has already been answered in this very, very long thread, but can anybody tell me what time the UP interview day ends? And are both interviews back to back, or spread throughout the day?
