congrats to all accepted, someone should step up and make a facebook page 🙂

rejected today (complete 8/10ish). Best of luck to everyone!

Interviewed in November and still waiting to hear back!

Anyone else? anyone have any comments on this? 🙂

Email, although I haven't checked my mailbox yet. I think that all acceptances we've seen so far on this thread have been emailed and mailed out simultaneously (but obviously, we get the email notification first). I also think -- but don't take my word for this -- that they send out acceptances on Fridays, because a lot of people with acceptances seemed to get them on Fridays although some have gotten them on other days as well.

I interviewed in mid-october, still waiting to hear back too.

They said they would be very conservative with acceptances early on (it isn't a true
rolling admissions process) and I believe the bulk of decisions will be made when most of the interviews are complete. There have been a number of people already weight listed and I really haven't heard anything regarding post-interview rejections (do they even do post-interview rejections?). Also, some people have said that they started with decisions a bit earlier this year than last.

This is the bulk of my knowledge; though, don't take it as fact. 🙂

JohnGalt87 I love your name! I almost made mine Dagny.. 😉

Received a waitlist email today... maybe there is still hope! :/

For those curious (like I was 🙂 ) there have been no post-interview rejections sent out yet...

Do you know why? Post-interview results have been anything but what we were told!

I know right!...But I have know idea why no rejections have gone out...

Did you call into the office to obtain this information or did you just mean here in SDN?

Do you know if rejection is a post-interview option at Dartmouth, or is it rather waitlist purgatory with no plan to admit?

I don't know...at my interview I THOUGHT they said they accept around 200, waitlist around 200 and reject around 200...I really do not know though.. sorry :/

that's what I remember them saying as well. Everyone is giving a numerical score after interviewing. Those above the high cutoff are automatically accepted and below a low cutoff are automatically rejected. Everyone inbetween are in limbo till waitlist decisions are made or the cuffoff levels are changed.

I interviewed early September so maybe they decided to change things since then?
and i got the waitlist email a few weeks ago.

for those who interviewed recently did the admissions office give any additional insight?

Interview invite! So surprised that I would get one this late

Hey DMS fans,

I don't come on here much, but I was accepted to DMS earlier this month and would love to chat with other acceptees/hopefuls. I agree ATPase8, we should make a Facebook group.

Best of luck to all those still waiting on decisions!

Hi everyone,

My name is Matt, I'm a first year med student at DMS. Congrats to all who were accepted! I've posted a facebook group titled:

Dartmouth Medical School Class of 2016

It's an open group, so feel free to join. We have finals coming up, but I'll try to answer any questions y'all may have.

Matt

Hey Matt,

Too funny...I just logged on here to say I'd made an admitted stuents group, but looks like you beat me to it. Can you post the link? For some reason it doesn't show up when I search for it.

Cheers,
Joe

Hey Matt! Thanks for the group. Whenever you have time --

How do you like DMS, genuinely? The obvious thing we would have reservations about is the isolated nature of the school - how does that work out for you? I am familiar with small town/outdoorsy life and have enjoyed it, but I worry that in one's mid-late 20's it might feel stifling. I could imagine that either you would end up as a really happy, close-knit family of med students who spend a lot of time together, or sort of isolated in the variety of small towns around Hanover mostly just focused on getting through school. What is your feeling on that issue? If one of the big things i am looking for is an active, close community, to what extent do you feel like that's the atmosphere at dmoose?

Are there podcasts for lectures?
Is there one area/housing complex where most students end up living? Is it a lot of lebanon/west Lebanon or mostly Hanover?
How long do you get to study for boards?
That's probably a lot to ask already. Thanks again, whenever you have the time.

Wow, those are some great questions! Haha, I'm putting off studying for a bit, so I'm happy to respond.

I genuinely do enjoy my time here at DMS. Right now is probably the worst time during first year to ask me that question, considering we're mashed between exams and finals a week apart. But when I look back at the year so far, I've been happier than I was even as an undergrad. We are learning a ridiculous amount of material, and although there are many opportunities for improvement in the curriculum and how we approach our medical education, I've been satisfied overall with my experience.

What I want to emphasize to everyone here is that medical education across the U.S. varies little. The flavors change, but the baseline qualities stay the same. That being said, there were two key points that I was looking for in medical schools (during interview season). The two aspects of a school that can really make or break your experience are 1) faculty and 2) your fellow students.

Over this year, there was a clear correlation between my mood/mental well-being/happiness and my grades. Your classmates and friends are really what make the difference here. They are the group of people that know exactly what you're going through. Here at Dartmouth, there is genuine camaraderie, and my classmates have a genuine interest in supporting each other. Nearly all schools I interviewed at gave speeches about how there was a "team atmosphere" there etc etc. I can only speak of my experience here, but I can tell you that it does exist.

The first two years are strictly Pass/Fail, and only a single faculty member knows all of the grades for each student. Again, I can't speak for how this plays out at other institutions, but at Dartmouth we are always sending each other study guides/review material/notes, etc.

I don't feel a sense of isolation living here either. I did my undergrad in Houston, which as you may know, is a pretty big city. I love it here! There are plenty of outdoor activities (pond hockey, hiking, kayaking) to do in your free time (yes there is plenty of free time outside of class) as well as events on the undergrad campus.

Lectures are now video recorded and synced with the accompanying powerpoint. It's a pretty cool online system. There are two graduate housing locations, one near campus and another about 2 miles south. There are also plenty of opportunities for living in private housing if you so desire.

I think you get 1 month or so to study for boards. I'm not the best person to answer that.

Happy to answer any more questions folks may have. Have a good night!

Matt

So they really don't do post-interview rejection here? 🙁

I haven't really heard a clear, convincing answer from anyone just yet.

-It appears they haven't given any post-interview rejections so far (this application season): someone apparently called the admissions office to ask. They've given few acceptances and a number of weight listings.

-Everyone seems to remember on interview day the admissions office describing their ranking system in which they're conservative with acceptances at the top and trim from the bottom during most of the process until bulk decisions are made (I don't know if "trimming" entails only weight listings early on, or if they do eventually start rejecting people). I seem to remember the admissions director saying "generally... the longer the wait, the better" or something like that (but this was back in October). But in summation, I really don't know anything after hearing disparate explanations surfaced by (mostly) speculation.

Hello All. Is there anyone interviewing on the 8th who'd like to share a hotel? It looks like all the hosts are unavailable. Let me know!

Has anyone heard anything post-interview? Interviewed back in Sept. When do you guys think bulk decisions will be made?

Good question... I'm guessing probably sometime this month (but maybe even as late as April?)

Who knows... though, I can't see why it would be later than when the rigid-non-rolling admissions schools (Penn, Harvard, etc.) make their bulk decisions...

...It looks to be an eventful month. I've been preoccupying myself with re-runs of Seinfeld and hard alcohol.

Lol. For me it's Seinfeld, Friends, and just started How I Met Your Mother(Netflix). I've also been working out A LOT more than usual. But ya, I agree. Should be at least by the end of this month.

Last year, a ton of decisions went out the last week of March and the first week of April. It's coming, it's coming. 🙂

Thanks for looking through the old thread cinclus! You were at my interview. Good luck genetics TA : )

Sent a letter of interest on Friday and got an interview invite via email tonight at 9:45! I know it's late in the season but I am still super stoked. DMS was definitely my top choice when I started this whole process.

My friend and I were accepted at some point in early Jan. He's definitely giving up his spot though, so that's one more spot opening up!

Does anyone know if the new curriculum being developed will be launched this fall?

Is it still true that there is no class ranking? How is membership into AOA determined?
