So we can email our secondary instead of mailing it in (the secondary said mail it in)? What about the picture?

One more question, so a speeding ticket would count as an offense? 🙂 Thanks guys

Yes you can send it as an email by scanning it in..I dont know about the speeding ticket.
hope this helps!

Yea it looks like they're quickly throwing the so-so applicants into the re-review pile and just focusing on the ones with best scores first.

I'm assuming best scores doesn't necessarily translate into best stats? Or...?

Yeah definitely not all about stats. I have a high gpa but an average MCAT, yet I landed an interview. I think they have certain profiles they are trying to fill, more than specific metrics they are looking for.

By best scores I meant a profile for mcat and gpa. They probably have a set standard they will focus on initially to get the pick of the litter then start filling up whatever spaces they leave open for the people on hold, to help "diversify" their student population. I'm basing this off reading posts about last years cycle. People were on hold for months until they got on interview.

But assuming the top schools were to follow the same approach, wouldn't this be counterproductive for GW?

How would it be counterproductive. GW got 14,000 applicants for 2010. There's likely plenty of applicants that are well qualified and just using GW as a safety if they don't get into say Harvard or JH.

ugh, on hold for re-review. Since it seems like many people are in the same boat and I could use some optimism... anyone know someone who was re-reviewed and then interviewed?

Well, I'm not as familiar with this process as you are, but I do know some schools hate being used as a backup, and I admire them for that. I guess that's not the case for GW.

My understanding is that top tier schools have the luxury to put mediocre applicants (say, gpa 3.7, mcat mid to low 30s) on hold because it's true that they rarely pick lower stat apps unless the circumstances are special. But, if GW is a school that does take a large chunk of lower scoring apps, I'd think they would adopt a more subtle approach in gunning for the top picks without offending the rest by immediately making it clear that they are the school's backups. So here's hoping GW is dishing out all these re-reviews to applicants with decent—if not above average—numbers so quickly because it's taking a holistic approach in its evaluation. :xf:

has anyone received an interview invite before being placed in re-review?

yes and yes

I don't think that's what they are going for, I've seen plenty of people with mcat's in the high 30's get turned away and my friends with high 20's and low 30's get interviews.

It's probably not worth the time trying to figure out how this whole thing works, it's really all in the hands of the reviewer

So... if you got an interview from GW you don't stand a chance at Harvard or Hopkins?

(Yield protecting sucks, for everyone involved.)

I am on-hold too and am trying so hard to be optimistic! I haven't gotten an actual rejection from any school yet but also have not received any promising news or interview invites...some good news in my email inbox would be so welcome right now!:xf:

Did everyone who was put on hold for re-review get an email saying that this decision had been made? I only found out this happened by randomly deciding to check my status on the login page. No email from the whatsoever saying that a decision had been made. Did this happen to anyone else, or is something going awry with my spam filter?

I did not get an update email from complete status to re-review status.

I never even got a complete email and am under re-review

are there any MS-1's or other GW med students here? if so please let me know or share with us your social, living experiences at GW. Do you think you made the best choice, and if so, what made you chose this school over another that you were accepted at? I got an interview invite from GW for late September and it would be great to chat with a GW student or someone in "the know".

I agree, I got an interview invite for the middle of september and would like to learn more about GW first hand, also what airport is the closest to GW? I am looking at the DC area and saw there are 2 airports. Thanks

Reagan is the closest airport. Abbreviation for travel sites: DCA

Hey guys,

how come you guys are submitting the secondary via email? I dont read anywhere that you can. Are you sure its fine to submit it by email????

please help

Has anyone gotten a rejection from this school? the "re-review" status seems like a big tease =[

ye, it is fine.

It says on the website [email protected] forgot the rest. When I submitted by e-mail, my file was marked complete the same day.

It will be OK.

I received interview invitations from Michigan, Ohio State, Virginia and Pitt. But, not from GWU. I was perhaps among the first few who submitted the secondary. Interesting. 🙂

Does anyone know how the AMCAS rec letter system works? Do schools get notified when rec letters get updated, or do they have go in and check? My school finally submitted my rec letter, and now I'm just waiting on being marked complete.

it will be done automatically by the schools. as soon as your letters arrive at amcas, amcas will send it to the schools you've designated. If anything just email the schools and let them know if you're worried lol =]

I'll be an M1 at GWU this fall. If any of ya'll are interviewing and have questions feel free to contact me. I was invited to interview at 14 schools and received 6 acceptances and ultimately chose GW so i'm all too familiar with the entire process. If anyone has any questions about where to stay for their interview or anything like that i'll do my very best to help you! Good Luck and hopefully Ill see some of y'all next year!

Been on re-review for a week or two by now. Glad I checked SDN to find out I'm in such great company!

Not a new member, here. Created a new account because my old one was quite revealing of my identity. I like to keep things nice and anonymous and I wanted to contribute a bit, here.

Secondary submitted: July 13
Secondary complete: ~July 26
Interview invite: July 28 😍
Stats: MCAT 30s, GPA > 3.5

Does anyone know how many acceptances GWU hands out? MSAR says ~150 matriculate, so would they accept ~300 interviewees?

So I JUST got the secondary to this school because of a problem with my email address on AMCAS. Long story short they have it in their records that it was sent to me even before my primary was verified, but I didn't get access to it until very recently. I'm WAY past the unwritten two-week law and am worried that will really hurt my application. Now I'm wondering if it's even worth the $125 to submit the secondary. I really like this school but feel like since everybody and their brother applies here I may have damaged my chances pretty badly. It may help to know that some of my LORs have not been submitted yet so I wouldn't be complete even if I had submitted it at the first opportunity.

Do you think I should submit it or save myself the trouble?

Hey guys, what is your take on this question:

"For 2011-12 application cycle, indicate your activities, academics, employment or other occupation to account for full-time activity."

I know many here are planning on doing additional research, healthcare related jobs, or any job, and will list that. But the only thing I have thought of doing so far in my year off is travelling. Will it look bad if all I list is travelling? Especially since it's not healthcare related?

Thanks

I don't think it's an unusual answer to say you're traveling. What are you traveling for? Is there any way to highlight something in particular that you'll be doing while traveling? (i.e. volunteering abroad? going on a church mission? etc...)

See, I only want to travel for fun, like enjoy sightseeing, meeting people in different countries. Not doing any volunteer work or any of that sort. That's the problem.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with that. Others might disagree, but I think it's totally valid to say that you want to take some time to explore other cultures (or something to that effect) before starting the rigorous training of medical school. I'd be interested to know what others think though, since there are definitely people more in-the-know on here than me.

Either way, best of luck (and safe travels!) 🙂

I did something similar. e-mail it to the address listed on the status page; they responded very quickly and added it to my file. So far no change in status as a result, but keeping my :xf: that it somehow helps, since I would absolutely love to go to GW.

just got double interview invites! GW and Rochester! Only 2 schools I have heard back from so far so I am definitely feeling great but am also realistically expecting to have some holds or rejections coming my way soon...

this is finally starting to feel real! i am a reapplicant so its been a long road...

anyone else interviewing on Sept 29th?

good luck to everyone!

Congratulations!! Did you receive e-mails or did you have to check their status pages? Also, when were you complete at both?
