i feel like i must be a system anomaly because my stats are pretty crappy yet they picked me for an interview almost a week or so ago.. i have a 3.8 and a very very low mcat but my ecs are damn good so they def do not sort through a machine first, this is great news. once again if there are any GW med students, call me!

Hope for those in re-review!!!
I got invited for an interview...
Submitted Secondary: 7/22 (via email)
Complete: 7/25
I checked it shortly after my app was complete and saw it was in re-review...at the point I just gave up hope...But then I got invited yesterday (8/5) for an interview!! My date is in late September...
Mind you, I don't have amazing stats either..
GPA: >3.4 MCAT: <28 **Edit** (I can't type... MCAT: >28)
Idk.. I have pretty good ECs and LORs so that could've been my pull...

Oh yea..I've been lurker for sometime now..but I figured I should probably start posting now.. Good luck to everyone else!

Congrats! Hope you "knock it out of the park" with the interview.

Hold for re-review at a later date.

I guess it could have been worse......man I really liked this school too...

Im curious what you guys did for the offenses part of the app... The wording is so vague...

This thread has gotten quiet. I just become complete a few days ago and am waiting for a decision. Anyone else in the same boat as me?

Same boat. Just got the email about being complete, but my status page doesn't indicate that. I guess they review pretty quickly, so we'll see what happens in the coming week.

Does anyone know if you get an email if you're put in the re-review category or if it only shows up on your status page (in which case we'll have to wait till thursday to know)

No email for me when I got it.

Did they e-mail you to notify you? I am currently in re-review and am curious if I am just supposed to keep obsessively checking the status site or if they will send e-mail notifications for people that change from re-review to interview invite/rejection. Thanks!

I'll be an M1 at GWU this fall. If any of ya'll are interviewing and have questions feel free to contact me. I was invited to interview at 14 schools and received 6 acceptances and ultimately chose GW so i'm all too familiar with the entire process. If anyone has any questions about where to stay for their interview or anything like that i'll do my very best to help you! Good Luck and hopefully Ill see some of y'all next year!
Hello,

I have an interview with GW early next month and would love to learn more about the school, how your interview experience was, anything I should know beforehand!

Thank you very much and congrats!

I had an interview there last year as well, but was eventually put on the alternate list and rejected.

The interview day was fairly nice, our coordinator was very friendly and outgoing. The dean seemed like a true boss and was very down-to-earth, friendly with all the interviewees. My first interview was with one of the dean of student affairs and was fairly laid back in her office. Questions were very general as the interview is closed file, so I didn't get any ethical-type questions...more of 'get to know you' questions.

Second interview was with a 3rd or 4th year medical student and again was of a similar manner except a bit more 'personal', but again just general questions.

You get a nice tour of the hospital...and I must say the CLASS labs are kick ass with lots of awesome simulation dummies that students will get to practice on.

The GWU area seemed very busy as there is a subway station right next to the university, so you're well involved in the city.

Also, there is a lot of time to talk with fellow interviewees during lunch and while you're waiting for presentations (financial aid, dean etc.)

🙂 hope this helps a bit and good luck! :luck:

I have a question. My application was marked complete (got an email) yesterday but my status page still says my AMCAS is unverified (even though it isn't). I am just a little concerned because they did say this status page would be up to date. Is this normal?

The stats page is only updated once a week (I think Thursday). Check again tomorrow.

For anyone still working on the secondary (am I the only one?), I'm entering data fields with adobe acrobat from a standard 8.5x11 document with 8.8 Helvetica, and the lines are matching up perfectly, making the process a lot easier.

Congrats to everyone who's gotten interviews! 👍

Prateek,
When exactly did you interview? Your stats are amazing. I can't believe you didn't get in last year! Honestly, that makes me really scared because my stats aren't as great as yours and I want a shot at GW so so bad! Its my first choice. 🙁

My file was complete September 15 and put on re-review shortly after. I got off the re-review status in January and had my interview on February 24.

GW is definitely not only about stats though. I think one gaping weakness in my application was 0 shadowing experience and not much leadership experience when I applied (even now I don't have any shadowing...hard to come by in Canada). So I definitely think that hurt me a lot.

Just make sure with GW, you keep sending updates to your application! New activities, marks, whatever. With the # of applications they receive, it's important to keep them well informed about your own

:luck:

Thank you for sharing what you know about GW. I wish you all the best for this cycle. 👍

Stats: sGPA 3.42, cGPA 3.58, 36Q

Congrats guys!

I have a feeling I'm going to be put on the re-review list--I was complete late last week and still haven't heard anything. So sad because I really liked GW.

I was very quickly put on hold.

Mailed Secondary in 8/4
On hold for re-review 8/11

I never even saw a complete status, and I've been checking the website every day.

3.53 cGPA
3.68 sGPA
40R MCAT
Canadian

I was put on hold today as well = (

gpa >3.8, 32<mcat<36. Thought I had strong ECs...

I'm on hold for re-review too. Oh well, we'll see where this goes.

Did anyone else receive the "your file is complete" email twice. I got it a few days ago then I got it again just a few minutes ago. I'm sure it's just a computer thing, but I was just wondering.

Good luck everybody!

"For 2011-12 application cycle, please indicate activities, academics, employment or other occupation to account for full-time activity. "

I'm taking a gap year and am working full-time at a hospital until I start med school (assuming I get in somewhere).

I wrote about my job as one of my activities on my primary. Do you think it is okay to provide the same response for this question on the secondary?

They are fast about it...

Was taken off the re-review list today and offered an interview in early October. A little hope for those of us who werent offered an interview right away.

Congratulations! When did you submit? Notified via email or status site? thanks and good luck in your interview!

Thanks!! I was complete on July 14th and had the "re-review" status probably 5 days after that. I was notified via email this morning, so I needless to say I was surprised, I was pretty sure re-review meant a silent rejection for the most part.

congrats! i'm also on the re-review list now. 🙁 gpa > 3.5, and mcat is >32. *SIGH*

More hope for people on re-review. I submitted ~7/25 and was put on hold within a week. Interview invite today! Yay.

nice! been on rereview since 6/29. if you don't mind me asking, stats for those who were on rereview and now onto interviews now?

Oh yeah I almost forgot. Even more hope for people! I was 29O, 3.88 cgpa. But I am a non-trad and lived abroad for many years, some of that may have caught their eye. But yeah numbers aren't everything. I have an interview at Case, as well, and I am WAY below their averages.

wow man that's a killer gpa. you're playing the numbers game!

Well, my status is now:

Your application to The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences is complete and has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. To date, no final decision has been made and the Admissions Committee has placed your application on hold for re-review at a later date. Files are re-reviewed by the committee periodically and there is no set schedule for decisions. We do interview from September through March. You are welcome to update your file via [email protected]. If we require any further documentation or if your status changes, we will contact you immediately. We do sincerely appreciate your interest in our program. Thank you for your patience.

I don't think the highlighted part was there before, and I may have read about other applicants having a similar status change.

Does this even mean anything? :scared:

I've had this in my status since I got put on hold. I don't know, but I doubt it means anything...maybe they just didn't have their update system set up when you first got put on hold, but now they do?

Hey guys I have a question need some insight. So I recently signed up for a post bacc program with a pretty decent medical school to get a Masters in Physiology. Should I let George Washington know about this or should I just stay quiet.

A) GW could take this as oh this guy is staying academically active after graduating and not just laying around in the house

or

B) GW could take this as Oh well lets have this guy complete his masters, we will see if he can handle the academic challenge (since my GPA is low) and then maybe he can apply next year.

So what exactly should I do!?

I would tell them about it, personally. Although, it sounds like you probably won't be one who gets an early interview. I would keep them up to date, though throughout the process.
