i mean, i'm no expert at all...but just be genuine. indicate why you feel GW is perfect fit for you and why you are fit to be there.
 
how do people afford a school like gw?

~70k x4 =280k (probably pushing more like 300k) in debt

can any current students comment on what the heck is being done to help abate these costs for students? do students just take on these costs?

Complete email was dated 11/13 and was received 11/15. I'm not sure what you mean by placed on hold. It's possible- The "unable" email mentioned my app was re-reviewed.

my status shows "Correspondence concerning the status of your application has been sent to you via email to your preferred email address on file with AMCAS". I checked my email, and there was nothing from them. Does anyone else have the same problem?

Try checking your spam folder. I think that means you got an interview invite.
 
I am currently on re-review and would like to send an update letter. Does anyone know of any resources about how to format an update letter/what to include in it? Thank you 🙂
 
since no current students are answering...

do any prospective students have any concerns of close to 300k in debt after leaving GW?

I'm not trying to bash how much this school costs (i'm seriously considering attending the school myself). I just wanted to see how others are handling this/planning or whatnot 😕

Honestly, its a pretty big issue that I have with the school as well. Its not even the tuition, but the tuition on top of the extremely high cost of living in the DC area. I think this article does a good job of revealing reasons for its high tuition.

In the end, I think cost is gonna be a major reason why many will not attend GWU if they are accepted at other schools.

Either call them up tomorrow or wait a day or two. That status is an interview invite (although according to the post below, maybe not) I guess it just takes them time

Hey, not to scare you guys or anything.... but I received the same status, after being on re-review for a while, and subsequently got a rejection email from GW later in the day (after I called the office inquiring that I hadn't received such email).

I wish you guys better luck than I had!

I can definitely understand your thoughts. However, the financial talk showed that students average around 200k, not 300k in debt after leaving. Not that 200k isn't really high, but it's definitely not 300k. They will support and help you find outside financial aid/scholarships, and 37% get institutional aid.

Also, DC is expensive, but if you choose to commute a little (or a lot, depending on how much you want to save) instead of living really close to the school, there are less expensive living options. For example, if I go to GW, I'm considering living in Northern Virginia, which is on the same metro line as GW and could cut some costs (as opposed to living in the area that GW is in).

It is expensive to attend GW, but it doesn't have to be 300k. Hope this helps!

The correspondence message is a rejection. I had the same status and was rejected after it.

I sent them a PDF file via email and wrote it in standard letter format addressed to the admissions committee in general (not a specific person or the dean or anything). Got an email acknowledging my updates the next morning 🙂
 
Hey everyone! I really like this school and was complete around middle of October. I have a question to ask to those who have received an interview invite. Do you guys happen to know what it says on your status page? Some people say you may get a status that reads "Correspondence concerning the status of your application has been sent to you via email to your preferred email address on file with AMCAS". or you may end up with a status that says something like "Application is complete and reviewed by the committee. Correspondence has been sent shortly to your email." Does it matter which status you get for an interview invite or a pre-interview rejection? According to some applicants it doesn't matter which you get, and if you get an interview they will send it through email Currently I am on hold, and I was hoping to know more about this. According to some of the posts earlier it mentioned that some applicants that got the "Correspondence concerning the status of your application has been sent to you via email to your preferred email address on file with AMCAS". were given a rejection email but I think there was one applicant who received the same status and got an interview invite. You will get an email letting you know about the interview. Don't worry about what the status page says.

I'm hoping I get an interview invite through email. So pretty much a person can get any status before an interview invite?

Hey guys, I was wondering were you able hear back from the medical school? I hope that your correspondence from GWU were interview invites. :xf:

When I interviewed, I emailed the admissions coordinator who put me in contact with the student in charge of hosting. The hosting program at GW is completely voluntary and they warned me that a host might not be available--but one was and it was a really easy process. So, I'd email the coordinator, if you haven't already, and tell her you're interested in staying with a student host.

Has anyone who interviewed early to mid November heard back yet? I know it's on the early side since they said post-interview turnaround takes 4-8 weeks... I just loved GW so much that I'm afraid I'm having trouble with patience 🙂 I'm dying to hear back from them!
 
I've been complete since 9/15 and my status page has said that my application will be re-reviewed for months, but I haven't heard anything yet. I haven't sent an interest/update letter yet, but I'm curious. How many other people are in the same boat. This wait is stressful!

i recently sent a letter of update but all i got was the standard reply of "We received your update" haha. nothing else has happened.

does anyone know if gw accepts in the area requests?

so, i'm way behind here, but I just wanted to make sure that GW doesn't actually send out emails when your status is updated. I never got any notification, I just happened to decide to login and check my status and discovered that i was put on hold for re-review. so i have no way of knowing when this change in status occurred, right? i haven't checked it since, like, october. i mean, i'm not going to drive myself THAT crazy by compulsively checking it everyday
 
I've been re-review since august. Sent in 2 updates and 2 letters of interest and nothing so far 🙁

I really like GW and I'm hoping for an interview invite sometime in the future. Do you think it will happen?
 
Interviewed 11/11. Checked my status on the website today and saw this:

"The Committee on Admissions is pleased to inform you that you have been selected as an alternate for the first year class of the program leading to the Doctor of Medicine degree entering in August 2012. A final decision has yet to be made regarding an acceptance. Please visit the 2012 GW Alternate List site, (http://smhs.gwumc.edu/mdprograms/admissions/faqs/2012alternatelist), for a list of FAQs and other important information. During this time, please keep the Committee informed as to your updated activities and your specific, continued interest. Please email [email protected] for the quickest service in updating your file. We appreciate your patience."

Darn it! There's still hope though, I should be able to send a strong update letter.....Is there post interview rejections??

Sorry to hear about the alternate pooling. They do not reject people post-interview until like August when the class fills out. Until then, everyone is kept in the alternate pool and reviewed as spots open up
 
okay so i'm flying back to dc YET again for more interviews. this is the second time i've been in the area for interviews. the first time, i emailed the medadmit email address for gwu with an "in the area" notice and got no response. do you know if i should try calling? or are they just not receptive to this? i really do not want to keep flying out to DC for interviews (coming from california)...

That's alright. Luckily I have another acceptance elsewhere, but I really liked the vibes I was getting from GW. Here's to hoping I make it off that list!:laugh:😀.
 
My application has been "on hold" since 9/25....I am going to Georgetown for an interview in February should I send an "in area" notice or just wait?
 
I interviewed 11/29, HOPING HOPING HOPING I get good news out of this. My turn-around was incredibly quick here, I think I had an II a week after submitting secondary.

Anyone know what the timeline is for later November interviewees? It seems like even some mid/earlier november still haven't heard...

Anxiously/excitedly awaiting... hoping for maybe an awesome present to start 2012 with!
 
I interviewed early in December and they told us the next committee meeting was 1/10 (or maybe 1/11... can't remember exactly) and that we would hear about a week after that.
