Ahhhh, not sure how I missed that. Thanks a bunch 🙂
I submitted my secondary, but it doesn't indicate that on my status page. If this normal?
I just got an email from OSU that they created an OSU username and OSUID for me. No one else in this thread seemed to mention this, so I was wondering, did anyone else get this/what does it mean?
Yeah I got that too. To be honest I'm not sure what it's used for since it's not the login/password you use to check your app status.
Well I know what it is; it's a login and pw to access OSU computers/their own system.
May I ask, did you get it today, or a while back?
got it too. Did everyone get it? The website says usernames are for currently admitted students or employees. Wish it was that easy...
Hmm...interesting. Yeah, if anyone else got, let us know (and when you got it might be useful). Are you guys all complete? I was about a week ago.
Yea I just got it and I submitted last week.
I submitted secondary 8/10 and received the username activation email today, 8/15.
CALL THEM. If you have any questions about OSU admissions, call them. That's their job, to handle your questions. They're very nice and glad to help. Don't hesitate.
hmm that's what i thought wasmy third ID i was talking about but mine was all numbers. the one i'm referring to as my third was this
"[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]OSU Password - Save this ID number and change this password! This ID number gives you access to register for your medical school courses and obtain financial aid information. Visit OSU's Account Management System to find information on safe computing practices and to change the temporary password assigned to your record. (On the "Change Password" page, use your OSUID (allnumbers*) and temporary password (somelettersandnumbers*) to create a new password using the guidelines provided.) This temporary password is only valid through mid-July. If you are unable to change this password before it expires, you will need to contact (614) 688-HELP for assistance.".
To current OSU students: research opportunities for med students were mentioned earlier, but beyond a listing of faculty-offered opportunities for med students, I've been having a hard time gaging how easy/hard it is to get involved, the quality of the opportunities, availability of funding, freedom to pursue own questions, etc...
...would anyone like to share their own experiences with this? 😳
I dont know if this counts, but I am an undergraduate researcher here at OSU dept. of pathology. I am involved in cancer research.
I dont know what is the protocol with the med students,, but when I was looking to be involved in research, I looked up the dept. faculty, read about their research and contacted them through an email. they typically asked me for my resume (may be more for the med students). Research availability is incredible. I believe OSU is #9 in the nation in terms of research activities. The PIs are typically nice, they want students to do their own thinking, have their (student's) own project as the part of their (PI's) project. They also are considerate of the student's schedule. I do not know much regarding the funding.
I hope this helps!
Does anyone know if OSU does 'on-hold' statuses or do they generally sit on your application until late in the cycle (e.g. March) to reject you?
Thanks for any information.
you can still get interviews all the way thru march to april even.
Anybody else had to request a new interview date? Do they just assign a new one to you, or do you need to call or email them to pick a new one? Thanks!
Thanks! I'll give them a call. I'm free the next day or week if it's still open 🙂
Ok 2-3 months later is a big deal, 2-3 weeks most definitely is NOT. rolling admissions. As a matter of fact, I'd like to argue that it would be better to interview mid cycle than early cycle. We tend to get all the top top applications very early, thus most early interviews are top candidates. So if you interview in September, you're being compared to many of our best applicants, with the 35+ mcats and 3.95+ gpa's, etc. This obviously isn't 100% true, but is a good generalization. Now, if you wait a few months, you are interviewing with good candidates, but perhaps not the caliber that you would have been in September. Still, obviously don't move your interview date to a later time - just trying to point out that early =\= better, not 100% infallibly.
Well most of it came fromthe heads of our admissiOns committee at our student adcom orientation meeting, so that's fine.

Is there any word yet on how many students they are accepting this year?
I've heard similar, either they over accepted or more people took them up on their acceptances then they expected. Either way a costly mistake I think. I have a feeling that will make OSU much more selective this year, I almost didnt apply there just for this reason.
last I heard only 17 took the deferal, so not that many spots are taken, you guys will be fine. They did accept too many tho
One year scholarships for medical school for 17 people is still a lot for them to pay (if that is indeed true). Spending money tends to make people remember things better, especially departments in academia.
ya but why would they be any more selective than the year before? They made the mistake of calling people off waitlists before people's accepting lettings came in, but how does that make them any more selective this year? still 200 or so spots to fill.

Deferring costs a student $250,000+ in future income. An unfortunate mistake, but I'm sure the 17 are grateful to have been accepted.
Haha depends on what they do, +/- 100k, they probably took it cause they were planning on deferring anyway
