Why would I think I'm better than him based on a test score? I didn't pay much attention to that previously, but now looking again, his gpa is higher than mine. Does that make him better than me? I wouldn't be so pretentious to assume either way.

Again, what I was curious/confused about was why some schools seem to bite and some don't. My experience this cycle has been similar. Last June, I would have expected a greater probability that school X would interview me and not school Y, but in many (most?) cases, that didn't pan out. That was all I was commenting on, a fellow applicant who's application experiences were similarly unpredictable.

I feels you.

Are many people still in limbo. No rejection nor II yet?

I was in limbo too guys, but got a II a week or two ago so remain hopeful!!! 🙂

They still have Feb dates to fill up, my fingers are crossed for all of you, I know how this process feels and can definitely relate.

interviewed oct 26, got mail: wait listed. good luck to you all

It's better to be in limbo than rejected. I assume it means that they're holding your application for re-review. And if that's the case, you should be hearing back soon because they just reviewed my application, which I (foolishly) submitted on Nov. 15th. Hang in there and good luck!

How do you know they reviewed your file? I also submitted then, and I'm wondering if it's best to send them an "in the area" email because of a recent UCSF II, or just assume I'm rejected and move on.

interviews run through march according to the admissions office. let's keep the faith.

I know they reviewed it because they just sent me an interview invite on Wednesday morning. The open dates were at the end of February.

Dang, I submitted my app on Nov. 14 (for a couple reasons) and haven't heard anything. Not that I expected an interview from Stanford, but now that I know someone who submitted after me (though barely) has been reviewed, lost a little bit more hope.

Can any current students comment about the amount of time spent in class? I know you have Wednesdays off, but a lot of medical schools spend much less time in class and are more systems based. What do you like/not like about the pre-clinical curriculum?

Also, do you feel like clinical education suffers because Stanford is such an amazing research institution?

What do other folks think about sending Stanford an "in the area" email? I was complete on 11/7 and am still waiting for word. I'm an east coaster and I'm going to be in the Bay Area during the first week of Feb for work and visiting family. I've gotten IIs at a few other top tier schools, so Stanford is not a crazy reach for me.

Would it be worth sending an email to someone there letting them know that I'll be around that week and that Stanford is a school that really excites me? Can someone who has sent an "in the area" email give me an example of what they wrote? Also, to whom would I send it? Charlene Hamada is the person listed on the standard emails they send to applicants, should I send it to her?

At this point, since time is wasting until they have offered all the interviews that they can.. I would definitely say go for it. I'm not sure what their official policy on the matter is, though. When you try to call the admissions office, it says to send all inquiries to [email protected], so maybe send it there? Good luck!

Does anyone know when interview groups from the very middle of November should hear back? At the interview day they said mid January, but I'm too scared to call to get a better estimate 😳

Does anyone know all the interview dates for this year? I'm curious to know how many interview days have passed/how many are left. It would also be good to know these dates to gauge about when you might get the call based on who has heard back already. From reading through this forum I have gathered the following dates:

September: 28
October: 7, 10?, 12, 21, 26
November:
December: 9
January: 24
February: 24, 29
March:

Got a surprise II today! I know I'll probably be interviewing for a waitlist spot, but that's cool, I'll take it 👍

Congratulations! If you don't mind me asking, what day are you interviewing? Are there interview dates in March?

Thanks! There were only two days available for selection - both in February.

Do you think most people prepared for the MMI or do you think a lot of people kind of winged it?

I think some people fashioned their own way of preparing (the least efficient of which, IMHO, is reading books on bioethics), and many people had been to other MMIs beforehand (which might reduce the stress of the unknown). But I think there was a fair amount of winging it. I spent more time with the people who winged it, mostly because they seemed more relaxed and personable. It was my first MMI.

Also, studies like this one show that even the ultimate preparation--knowing the prompts beforehand--doesn't significantly increase performance: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16441321

Another pro tip: Since there's an order on your name tag, you can figure out who your partners will be for the group exercises. I introduced myself, learned their names, formed a friendly rapport, and figured out what to expect from them. My first partner was one of the coolest guys in our interview group, and I definitely had a little crush on him. The other guy was one of the most neurotic pre-meds in the bunch. Night and day. Looking back, I think it might've worked to my advantage to show the raters both bromance and dealing effectively with an abrasive character. Going into the group station, I knew exactly how to deal with both personalities without turning red--be it by blush or by anger!

I'm not excited about MMI. Tell me Stanford's worth it.

Even though this was one of my least favorite interviews, it is totally worth it, I promise. You'll just have to accept that the AdCom is not necessarily representative of the med school as a whole.

That's fantastic news! Mind sharing when you were complete?

😕 Why would they do that??

Since Stanford has a rolling admissions policy, it's possible that they will give out all of their acceptances before evaluating the last few groups of interviewees. With that said, last year's thread seems to indicate that three spots were remaining when they got to the final adcom meeting to review the last two interview dates. If they were interviewing 30 people per/day, that means they outright accepted 5% of the interviewees from the last two dates and I assume the rest were waitlisted. The odds are low, but I'd much rather have a 5% chance than a 0% chance.

You are right! Here is hoping for a greater than 0% chance 🙂

I liked the MMI interview because I knew that there was really no way to prep for it.. so I didn't have to spend the time leading up to that day preparing for typical interview questions.

I also liked the MMI because they were (mostly) interesting things to consider and talk about, so the time when very quickly. Plus, I definitely felt like I goofed up one question 🙁, but it's only one out of ten so you just move on.

I don't know how much I believe that MMI is superior to traditional interviews.. but Stanford is so worth it, so I will jump through whichever type of hoops they choose for their interview day.

definitely winged it... but in preparing for the entire interview process for the schools you have selected to apply to you are undoubtedly immersing yourselves in the fundamentals... i think thats all you need to do. be confident in the position that you have put yourself in, thats all

Does anyone know when the Stanford second look weekend is?

i believe it's april 13-15 this year, according to earlier posts

This waiting is killing me. If I don't get accepted, I'm attributing it to the fact that I totally had bad breath during MMIs. That, or I might have quoted a Justin Bieber song...

No no no...when I felt that the MMI was going south:

"For you, I would have done whatever
And I just can't believe we're here together
And I wanna play it cool, but I'm losin' you"

Still waiting on...well...anything. Complete late August.
