Oh, sorry for not including that. Jan 24th

Ouch! I interview on Jan. 24th as well... I don't know what this means for me 🙁
Do you mind sharing what was the area code of the phone call?
Just in case... I am hoping ...

I'm in the same boat. 🙁

It's a 650 area code, just so you know.

Good luck you guys!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for everyone 🙂

You also interviewed on Jan 24TH?

Thank you for the area code.

Yup. Now I'm fearing that thin, white envelope. I'm not sure I've ever wanted to make a wait list so bad.

Thanks for the warm thoughts OldMan707 and congrats again!

Do you think the calls were supposed to be given at around the same time? 🙁 for the same day interview?

I remember they told us we would hear back by the end of february :/
So why the earlier notifications? 🙁

I think it really depends on Dr. Garcia's schedule. I got mine in the first week of February at ~3pm California time, and I interviewed on January 11th. So I would say that's probably a three-week turnaround time? It was earlier than I expected since I was told on the interview day that we'd hear back around mid February.

On a side note, that phone call literally changed my life... I applied late (submitted secondary on the night before due date) and am an international applicant, so this is my first acceptance. What makes this better is that it is from an amazing school! But looking back at this whole med application process, I do regret not applying earlier.

Best of luck to everyone still waiting!!

I completely agree, I think a lot of it is based on when they review your file and when Dr. Garcia has some free time to make the call. I'm still checking this thread for Lizzie and rgll, hoping for some good news for you two!

Also, CONGRATS togirl!!!! Amazing first acceptance. It's so funny how much of a difference a 1min phone call can make on your life huh???? 😀

Not everyone gets a phone call I think. I never got one, but just waited for the snail mail.

You are so sweet, thank you so much 🙂 I am hoping for good news. And I am very happy for your acceptance 😀
I will let you guys know how it goes for me either way.

Yeah... when I got off the phone, I pinched my face so hard that it hurt - just to make sure that I wasn't dreaming!

Thanks OldMan707! I guess I'll keep hoping. As much as I would love to get a call, though, I would still be happy to be waitlisted. At least then, I can keep fighting for a chance to be accepted.

Congratulations! Maybe it's a test and Dean Garcia wants you to call him.

....or maybe you just have a missed call. But regardless, you're in and you should celebrate. 🙂

If we haven't heard anything yet, what do you guys think are the chances that we're still under consideration (are they even sending out any more invites?) versus the chance that our rejection letters are lost in the mail/still on the way...

I dislike how Stanford is so opaque in this whole process. I wish more schools were like UMichigan...

I just got an interview offer yesterday. There was only 1 interview day left. Most likely all the offers have been given, just my opinion.

I like your SDN handle name! 🙂

I have been complete since early July and have not heard a word. I first called two weeks ago, but the automated response said they do not discuss application status through the phone. I then e-mailed them and have yet to receive a response.

I received the thin white envelope yesterday. At least I still have a chance! 🙂

For those of you wondering:
Interview: 1/24
Letter Dated: 2/10
Letter Received: 2/14 (Happy Valentine's Day!)

Thanks! I'm definitely relieved that it's not a rejection. =)

If you are waiting to receive a letter it should be coming soon. I probably received mine quickly because I live 4 miles away from Stanford.

Btw, good luck, lizzie5987!

Thank you! I am hoping to find out about my status soon.
I will be keeping a look-out for the mail.

Congrats again rgll, you are still in the running 🙂

Hey, do any of you have the email we can send updates to? I remember writing on someone's business card to send updates to them, but I can't for the life of me find that card now. Any help is much appreciated 🙂

Ditto!! Waitlist as well, at least I have hope 🙂 Received my letter today!

Interviewed about two weeks ago. The school was amazing and the MMIs were not (big surprise, right?). Hoping to hear good news!

any accepted students thinking about doing the Early Matriculation/LHDP Program? can any current students comment on the pros/cons of this program? thanks

Hello everyone!

I created a Stanford Waitlist Thread 🙂
Maybe we can join forces and get accepted from the waitlist 😀

@ nowitspartytime, I was thinking of doing it, but I'm not sure. I'm still deciding if Stanford is where I'm going, I also unfortunately don't know much about the program.

It's a great program! I strongly recommend participating if you can. The program gives you a chance to get familiar with the school, get to know some of the faculty and staff, and to get to know some of your classmates in advance. The program includes a histology class along with clinical presentations by physicians in different areas, health disparities and leadership seminars, as well as research and clinical shadowing. The research part is the main component, and you give a presentation at the end of the program.
Assuming you are planning to live on campus (most people do), you get to move in in the summer and more than likely keep the same apartment throughout the year.
There is also a very generous stipend that comes with the program, which gives you more than enough to pay for rent, cover your personal expenses, and then some.
There will be more information about it during second look weekend. Last year they had a table with information- the program director was there, as well as previous participants.

Thanks for the info! Do you know approximately how many students choose to do it each year?

Ahhh I'm so excited to go to California!!! =DDD Beach, sunshine, warm non-humid breezes. So long Baltimoreee.

But I'm totally nervous about the MMI. Darn you McMaster for creating this mutated, seemingly chaotic interview process. 😡

Is anyone interviewing on the 24th?????

The group size varies each year, but it's anywhere from 5 to 12. Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions. Good luck with everything :luck: and congrats of your acceptance!!! 😀

Kinda off topic but... what are some of the most popular buildings for living on campus? I remember some current students at my interview mentioned certain buildings to avoid and certain buildings to express preference for

It depends a lot on personal preference, mainly how social you want to be, but there are also different kinds of social, as you can mix with all sorts of different grad students in engineering, humanities and the law if you want to, and there can be substantial price differences. There is also specialty housing/coops if that's your thing. Many people live in Palo Alto or Menlo Park, although the Facebook IPO may drive up housing prices in town even more.

They will talk about housing at admit weekend.

It is possible to live in SF, but only a few people ever do it, and it takes a toll.

The majority of students live on campus, in 4 major apartment complexes. I would say most live in Escondido Village (EV) , it is the largest complex, and also the oldest of the 4. Then we have rains, the second most popular (in my opinion) it is newer than EV, and bit more expensive. Lyman is the closest complex to the med school, but this one is dorm-like (not sure about the price of this one). Munger is the newest, very very nice apartments but also the most expensive of the 4. There are a few people who live here but I'd say most stay away because of the price. There are 2 other complexes but not many med students live there, it's mostly law and business students. Some students live off campus too, in redwood city, palo alto, or mountain view.
Also, whatever apartments you choose, you will more than likely have non-med students housemates (assuming you want to share an apt) The med school is pretty small and this is graduate housing for all grad students.
It's hard to say what buildings to avoid, it all depends on what you want personally. Be sure to talk to students who live in different complexes during second look, I found that to be very helpful.
here is a link to the graduate housing page if you want to check it out http://www.stanford.edu/dept/rde/cgi-bin/drupal/housing/housing/housing-options

Anyone else still in application limbo? No rejection, no ii, no clue...

Yes and it's killing me! Complete September 8th. I keep thinking no rejection is a good thing, but I'm loosing hope...

Me too. If anyone that is going to interview soon could ask when the last invites will be sent out, that would be great 🙂

Hey everyone,
In case you are interested... the interview season at Stanford is coming to an end, with the last interview day being March 2nd. I am not completely sure if all invitations for that date have already been sent but considering it is a week from today, I think most have already been sent...

Who's going to second look?!

I'm pretty excited to learn more about everything (housing, financial aid etc)
