could be either/or but best bet is to ask Mr. Rosso and applicants from last year. they are the only ones that might have insight into if the waiting list is really moving slower than usual which it may or it may not be.
i'm just wondering, did buffalo always move people up the ladder of spots (as in middle to upper third to acceptance) or did that just start last year? it seemed like, from last year's thread, that people just went from middle third to accepted without being in the upper third.
Still is kind of strange. Why publish the three tiered waitlist, tell applicants their score doesn't change after interview day and that they just go to the next person on the wait list when thats clearly not the case? I mean, most med schools are somewhat mysterious about waitlist position and movement, but buffalo tries to convince you their waitlist policies are pretty transparent (=seemingly not the case). Evidence of this...AFTER all interviews stopped and the wait list was released, we've seen people go from middle to accept while others have remained static in upper.
I don't mind the way most schools do it, granted the advertised transparency of buffalo would be nice, but I don't appreciate being told to expect one thing and then experiencing another. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying and assume I'm trashing the school or that I'm not happy for those of you who've gotten in from the middle (kudos & congratulations!) I don't think this speaks to the quality of the school, but I do think explicitly stating waitlist policies that aren't veritable should be avoided. If you can't do as you say, do what most all other schools do and don't say anything at all.
