I believe that once you start med school as an OOS you will always be treated as one.

I asked this question during interview day and this is correct, although they said you could take a year off either before starting medical school or between years 2 and 3 to do a research fellowship during which you are in the state of Iowa for purposes other than education, and thus you can establish residency, although the staff advised against this because you're delaying your medical career and in retrospect saving $20k doesn't mean much.

Put in the final pool a few weeks ago. Anxiously awaiting the end of this month when CCM's rolling admissions ends... 🙁 OOS btw.

Interviewed Dec 9th...does this mean we will all hear accept/wl/reject the first week of march?

I interviewed 12/21 and haven't heard anything as far as acceptance/rejection/final pool. Hoping to hear soon!

I interviewed on Dec 6th! I don't know about the first week of March. Is that when all decisions are supposed to be made? I just know that rolling admissions end at the end of January and then they start looking at the "final pool".

yeah I interviewed in November with no word on accept/reject/FP. I think there are people all the way back from Sept in the same place. I know someone said earlier that they stated all interviewees would get reviewed at least once prior to getting placed in the final pool, but as we're reaching mid January, it's increasingly hard for me to believe.

+1 (and amen)

Can anybody comment on when Iowa says they will be finished reviewing the final pool applicants? Thanks! 👍

Check out last year's thread for exact dates. If I remember correctly, the Tuesday after next will let everyone who has not heard yet about being final pooled. Between then and mid-March, final-poolers will be reviewed. Then in mid-March (between the 10th and 15th), an e-mail will be sent saying a final decision has been made. A few of us will get another e-mail the next day informing of an acceptance. The rest of us will have to wait for snail mail, which will say rejected or where you are on the waitlist.

So do you think tomorrow will be the last opportunity for some people to be accepted then??

Thanks for the info!

Well, a few were accepted the following Tuesday (same day as the final pool) - we may have 2 or 3 more shots. Last year, the last Tuesday of January was on the 25th, but this year, the 31st is also a Tuesday and it may also be a review day.

I just hope that there is more than silence tomorrow, unlike last week.

I dunno... unless *all* the not-yet-considered interviewees are posting on SDN, the Adcom seems to have quite a lot of applicants yet to decide on. I'm more inclined to believe that things are running a week or two behind this year than I am to think they'll just dump a bunch of folks in the final pool without even checking their files. (In other words, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed tomorrow, but I'm fully prepared to wait another couple weeks before I hear anything as well.)

Interviewed Dec 9th...assuming that today will be the first day someone from that interview date could hear...:xf: and yes i know I already posted once today...

I was wondering if anyone knows the requirements for posting updates to their application profile. I was final pooled in december and my grades this past semester would slightly lower my overall gpa. Does anyone know if these updates are required or if it is optional?

I don't know if it was optional or required, but in any case, the deadline for Fall semester grades as listed on the secondary portal was January 15th.

I just got the email! Interviewed 12/21. OOS

Good luck to everyone else!!!

Come on Iowa give me some good news!!

Final pooled today, interviewed late September.

I am sad but also happy to have a response, good luck to everyone else!

Congrats!

So, is there a consensus on how frequently the acceptance/final pool emails go out? Do I need to babysit my gmail page for another hour, or do all the emails go out at once?

Argh. It's hard to get too worked up when there are folks who've been waiting to hear since September, but 3 months seems like rather a long time to wait.

Just accepted. So excited it's stupid. Interviewed early November. (OOS)

Hey Northy, did you help animate the Iron Giant?

I hope you hear good news from Iowa!

Sadly none of the movies I've worked on have been as historically great as Iron Giant. But yeah, I'd love to get a thumbs up from Iowa--I'm not sure how much longer I can wait for another Shorts' burger!

Thanks!

I wish I knew. 🙁 From what I've heard on here, there were two more meetings before the final pools, but I don't fully understand the final pool. I agree! 3 months is a long time. I'm definitely grateful to have heard soon after my interview.

Hang in there!

+1, I'm sad to say. OOS, interviewed early November. I feel you on at least not having to wonder what's going on anymore!

Crossing my fingers for good news for us down the road! 🙂

Welcome aboard MermaidMD. If you interviewed on Nov 2, then you were in my group. I'm hoping the financial aid is awesome...I'm at the 'Jerry McGuire' stage of this process with most schools....a.k.a. 'Show me the moneeeeeeeeey!'....lol:laugh:

Why thank you! Not in the Nov. 2 group--how did you investigate the financial aid information?

I also interviewed Nov 2. I'm glad to see a few others from that interview group were also accepted.

Hey everyone, I interviewed at Iowa yesterday and wanted to share some of the things they told us during our day (specifically for out of state applicants). At this point, everyone interviewed goes straight to the final pool (which started a week or 2 ago). Then on the 15th of March, after a review of every candidate, we will be notified if we are accepted, rejected, or placed on the 'alternate list'. The dean told my group that this year Iowa will interview 400 / 3000 OOS applicants, and accept about 120 outright. The next 100 will be ranked and placed on the alternate list. When people who are accepted start withdrawing their applications they will start pulling people off the alternate list until they have between 40-45 OOS students.
She said that last year they pulled only 2 people off of the alternate list, but a few years ago they exhausted the alternate list, so it's a really unpredictable process. Thought this might help some of you guys out. GL

thanks very much for the clarification.. my mind is more at ease 👍

Thanks for sharing the info. Are you sure that it was only 2 people off the alternate list? If you look at last year's thread, on the last page, the individual who was ranked 71 on the OOS list was granted an acceptance. Man, 2 people is scary, but I guess those 2 felt really special.

I interviewed on Sep 26th and have not received any notification. I was chalking it up to bad luck but I'm beginning to worry I fell through the cracks or something. How many others have yet to receive any notification either?

So you're saying that they already placed everyone in the final pool that interviewed earlier? Wonder why I didn't get a notification email 🙁

I interviewed on 12/2 and i got my acceptance offer on 12/23 (OOS). Best christmas present to date. After visiting Iowa i immediately fell in love with the place. Good luck to everyone!
