I guess that sounds reasonable. The SUC email said 46% get accepted who make the SUC list. Wonder if that is in total for all applicants or specific to Idaho. I would assume across the whole pool of applicants.

Nope, that's for all applicants; that figure was in my 1st SUC e-mail.

Didn't get any emails from financial aid either, maybe it was only sent to WWAMI applicants.

I'm an out-of-region applicant, and I received a financial aid email this afternoon so this is not the case.

Does UW tend to accept "non-traditional" applicants early?

Have many acceptances been made to students still completing their last year of undergrad?

*Non-traditional as in people who have been out of school for at least one year and have gained extra experience either by working/volunteering or have completed a grad degree. I noticed that the majority of my interview group fit in this category.

Thanks for the reply Slev. I guess all this waiting has made me over-analyze every single detail about the application process!

Has anybody who interviewed in Laramie this past week heard anything today (or yesterday)?

Not Yet! This is killing me, as they mentioned that accepted students would probably get a call this weekend.

Has anyone from the "Still Under Consideration" list been accepted? Or are people just getting added or rejected from that list?

Just got the interview invite. Any other AK residents get an interview invite in the last few days? UW seems to be pretty late in getting their interview invites out this year.

What does divergence of opinion means? Is it a good thing or a bad thing? Does this mean like, two of your interviewers didn't like you and one really likes you. Or it could be the other way around, two people liked you and one didn't like you but that person is fighting hard to reject you? I am pretty unsure..

It means one of your interviewers hated you while the other two loved you. It is better than having all your interviewers luke warm to you.

Btw. I just got rejected second year in a row. Good luck to everyone else who is going on without me.

What do they even do if this is the case?

Application complete: 10.18.11
Interview: 1.17.12

Accepted via e-mail a few hours ago!

In case people are wondering...

-WA resident
-nontraditional applicant
-Art History and English undergrad
-MCAT of 33
-GPA of 3.7

Feel free to pm me with any questions or anything more specific about my application. I've been largely silent on the forums, but I cannot thank posters enough for all the insight throughout this application cycle.

Congrats! Was this the first you heard from them since the interview or after SUC? And ate you IS or OOR? Thanks and so happy for you!

Edit: you read my mind. Congrats again!!

Does this mean, anyone one of them might not have liked me? I hope it is not my EXCOMM...

Accepted!!! This is a great school. For anyone wondering:

OOS, 3.88 postbac GPA, 31N (11PS 11VR 09BS), lots of clinical and research volunteer hours

Interviewed on Jan 11th
Accepted Jan 30th

BTW, when do we get our financial aid packages? Is this after submitting FAFSA?

This is awesome!!! 🙂 Good luck to everyone else.

I've been SUC'ed once (earlier this month). Does the UW update your status after every excom meeting (like getting another SUC/accept/reject/WL)? Or do they send you an email only if things have changed?

^I'm in the same boat so I'd like to know too if someone has a definitive answer.

However, I believe there were some other posters saying they've gotten more than one SUC email.

It depends on when you interviewed. They tend to send monthly updates. I interviewed in October and have had 4 SUC emails. But from what I can tell, you either stay on the SUC list until the end or you get rejected along the way. I don't think anyone has been accepted from the SUC list yet.

If anyone knows for sure how the Still Under Consideration situation works I would love the official word. Has anyone been accepted yet that had received a SUC email? Do they go through them all at the end so there is no way to have heard anything yet? Thanks!!

OOS, interviewed 11/29, SUC 12/16, accepted 01/10. Good luck to everyone still applying and under consideration!

Congrats! I just got my second SUC email right now. I sent an update/intent letter after the first one was sent (1/11). The first one asked for a transcript of fall grades and updates since the interview. This second one asks for accomplishments like publishing in a journal or awards. I don't have any updates like that but do you suggest sending one anyway? How many did you end up sending?

I know Jojokarade received 4 SUC emails. Did you send an update letter after each one?

The wait til March is killing me. I'd do anything to go here :'(

I've emailed two updates and mailed a letter of intent. My two updates were for new things that were not in my application file. I don't want to bombard them with updates of things they already know i'm doing.

I just got my 3rd SUC....it's pretty obvious at this point that I'm not one of those applicants whose EXCOM member wasn't there and got SUC'd and so I'm likely going to end up being in that final pile in March.

It's possible to get accepted while SUC before March. I was accepted after 1 SUC email, and my friend was accepted after 3 SUC emails. I'm OOS, so I sent one update addressing my desire to attend school and serve in the region. I don't know if it made a difference, but since UWSOM readily accepts updates I think that expressing any kind of compelling interest can only be positive. Best of luck!

I got my 3rd SUC email today. But I have a friend who was accepted today after getting 2 SUC emails. I think there is hope for us. Good luck everybody :luck:

True. There are a couple of people on last year's thread who got their acceptances after sending an update letter. I dont know how common this is but it's worth a try!

@ anon747 - Fingers crossed for you from from one nontraditional Ivy Leaguer to another. I hope you can stay local.

@anon747: You're not alone. I'm on my 5th UC as well. It's been such a long process, but at least we made it this far right?

The UW application cycle is one of the most frustrating around in my opinion, I was on the waitlist a few years back and I came within a few seats of getting in but didn't find out until mid-July when the waitlist finally closed. I have heard of other students finding out in August that they got accepted. It SUCs to be SUC, and that rage face I see when I search for this thread so aptly describes the process for some of us. On the plus side, UW at least gives you a rank on the waitlist, and I think that is in March (it could be May, I dont have time to check back). I am still waiting for an interview here which is strange because I added a ton of things to my application since previous years when I got the invite earlier.

for those of you who have been UC for a while, have you been getting one email per month? As in, the admissions committee only meets once a month?

I interviewed in October. I was told they would meet once a month for the first few months, and then meet more often as the season progressed. Your name only comes up when your EXCOM member is there. As they meet more often, your EXCOM member will not be at every meeting. I have had 5 "SUC" emails so far and they usually come every few weeks or so.

Is it pretty normal to receive multiple financial aid emails? They already sent me the same emails several weeks ago after I interviewed and now just got the same email again

Also received it this afternoon. I think they're going out to everyone 🙂

On my 5th UC email as well. I'm glad to be still under consideration, but it's frustrating to still have things up in the air. As a nontraditional student, it would be nice to have some lead time to be able to plan things if it turns out that I have to go out of state. If it were just me I wouldn't mind so much. For my wife's sake, however, it would be helpful to know well in advance for planning/job search purposes.

That being said, I would much rather still be in the running than have a quick rejection. A stressful process to put one's significant other through, though.

Yeah, I can't imagine how brutal it must be for you and your family to be going through this. It's already a huge challenge for me because I applied nationwide and have no idea where in the country I will be in about 6 months, and I'm single so I can't imagine what it's like for you and your family. Fortunately, at UW, you'll at least know where you stand in March unless you draw a waitlist number that's in the 30s or 40s.

Yeah, I've already sent out two update letters in the last month. UW is my top choice so I do plan on sending out a letter of intent/final update letter close to the March final EXCOM meeting; I just don't want to use my final "bullets" until the end since I've already sent multiple updates.

Hi gang!

I have an upcoming interview with the UWSOM...can anyone give me insight into their experience, what type of questions were asked, or any pieces of advice?

Does anybody know someone who had been re-interviewed because there was a divergence of opinion that got rejected at the end of the cycle? I am curious.

Dear HuskyDoc11,

I would consider reading the UW's ethics page. It is pretty informative, in my opinion. Here is the link to UW's ethics website:

http://depts.washington.edu/bioethx/topics/index.html

At the same time, it is really hard to give definite advice since everyone's application is different. However, I can tell you for sure to know your experiences pretty well since more than likely the ethical case scenarios would be related to your experiences. I recommend that you tie somehow your experiences to your responses. In my interview, I probably got about 5 to 6 different ethical questions due to my experiences.

For example, if you worked in an ER, make sure you know how to answer an ethical question about having one last bed for one patient, or a privileged person not wanting to wait and demanding to be seen by a doctor NOW.

I hope this helps. Some people say that this is probably one of the hardest interviews in the medical school application process, but I found it to be kind of fun actually and I got in. 😀

Good luck! :luck:

Do you guys think it's too late for me to get an interview? I submitted my secondary in December and my status is just "your application is complete". I'm IS btw.
