Nope.

Another alternate in waiting here.

Is it better to be an alternate or UC? Is alternate like a wait list while UC is still in the running?

I believe Alt. is the better place to be, the ALT is generated rank-wise from the UC list and the class is already full, so when people drop, I believe they fill the vacancies from the alt. list.

6/20 , Tomorrow,

was the day last year where a decent amount of people were accepted from the Alt. List

Did u see that on last years thread? I can't find the thread. Maybe cause I'm on my iPhone and the mobile site isn't that good

Yeah the mobile app sucks, but yes on last years thread, 6/20 4-5 people reporting being accepted from the Alt. List, Though the alt. list was only generated 5 days earlier, whereas it has been 9 days since this years Alt list was created

Just got a rejection email from Albany. It's finally over.

I can't believe there was neither a big UC wave or an Alt. List wave after the May 15th thing!

I was notified by email. They gave me three days to accept.

For those with access to the Facebook group, would you mind telling the rest how many current members there are in the group? Thanks!

I haven't been added yet, but there are 118 members in the group currently, 3 of which are orientation coordinators.

Accepted off of Waitlist this morning! 1st acceptance. Good luck for those still waiting. BTW, I know an Albany medical student who is the brother of somebody I work with in California (oddly enough). He was accepted off the waitlist the week before matriculation in August 2 years ago. So it can happen.

Stats: cGPA 3.57 sGPA 4.00 MCAT 35 age 35 from Cali.

If any incoming students are still looking for a place to live my landlord has some vacancies available. Very professional, responsive staff, most of the properties are within walking distance of school.

Do any current students live in the alexander at patroon creek apartments? Or in Delmar?

Accepted off the Alternate List earlier this week. 3.5 GPA, 3.6 sGPA, 35 MCAT. Good luck to all who are still waiting!

Looks like I will be going to Albany Med. Very excited.

Im looking for a place to live for next year. Very flexible on where I live and who I live with. If you have a place and are looking for a roommate or if you are just looking for someone to live with send me a PM. Thanks

I will be a first year, 23yr male. Pretty easy to live with.

I have also been recently accepted, congrats! I found a place across the street from the medical center that charges $1200/month for 2 beds. PM me if you're interested.

I got accepted off waitlist yesterday. It's my first acceptance so am super excited about it. I just have to figure out where I will be living, my financial aid in like three weeks. I have a quick question. How does the financial aid work here?

If you haven't already, make sure you fill out everything Albany sends you for financial aid. I believe this includes your FAFSA, their application, and make sure you complete the entrance counseling and the master promissory note on studentloans.gov. Once completed and you receive your fin aid, albany should send you more info on how to accept and obtain the money.

Hope this helps.

Also, M1s don't receive any scholarships and all of your expenses will be paid for in loans. Only after first year do students become eligible for scholarships through the school.

Thank you so so much!! This makes it a lot easier. I have never filled out any of that before but my fafsa was already sent in march so I am good that way. I just filled out my AMC financial aid form online but am kinda confused on entrance counseling form, direct graduate plus MPN forms but will read up on that. So after that financial aid will send me the packet. A very stupid question..do they give us what loans we apply and how much we get, right..I know this might sound ridiculous but I had no hope of getting accepted since I was wait listed at four place and have never filled out all this before so please ignore my stupid questions.

I also had other questions..how expensive it is to live in Albany and is car a necessity??
Thank you

If you call the Financial Aid office, they are very friendly and super helpful and will walk you through everything. Also, I couldn't quite understand, but were you asking about the amount of loans that they will give you? The school puts together an estimated budget, and if you take out "full loans" as many do, it'll run around $75k/yr for tuition, books and supplies, and their estimated living expenses. If you need more, you can always ask them to adjust things given some proof of your circumstances. And you can request less if you want. They do like to remind people that part of the Graduate PLUS loan approval process is a credit check, so make sure your credit is good/clear to prevent any delays. Other than that, I think it shouldn't be too hard to get the money. They're pretty quick.

Check out page 27 and 28.

I'd say most people are able to live within those budgets, but of course everyone's personal circumstances are different. Housing can range from in the $300's per month if you have roommates on the low side, and probably is more like $400-$600, and maybe around $800/month for a single (although there are people who are choosing to pay much more.)

A car is not necessary, but this is not a big city like NYC where it's very comfortable to not have a car entirely. If you choose not to bring a car out, you will likely end up making friends with people who have cars, learning the bus system, taking taxis, etc. There are a few grocery stores within walking distance of school - a couple of Price Choppers that are about a 15 minute walk, depending on where you end up living. There are bars and restaurants and other services that are all in a reasonable walking distance. The area around the school is pretty residential and safe for walking around. Of course there are certain areas to avoid (e.g. Washington Park at night) but most people watch out for each other and will offer rides or walk home together if it's late. There's also a shuttle at school that will take you to your doorstep every hour from 8pm-midnight, and campus security will do escorts.
Having a car by 3rd year will open up your choices for rotation sites, but you can still manage without one even then. Just let the clerkship coordinators know your car situation, and they will schedule you appropriately.

I brought my car from California, because I wanted that lifestyle, but I do have plenty of friends without cars, and they've just made the necessary adjustments - giving themselves a little more time to get places, finding friends who will carpool for groceries, or ordering food or sticking with what's in walking distance, using the class facebook page to find carpools if they want to go out on trips after an exam (e.g. to NYC, Boston, for hiking/camping/skiing.)

Just curious, but did anybody get on the alt list after that first day?

So when do we get our orientation date, white coat ceremony date and first day of classes date after sending all the acceptance forms and deposit? I tried to look for information online as to when everything starts but I had to call them to find out about everything. Do we get any sort of packet beforehand to know what to expect at orientation and all?

I just read in last year's thread that family is not allowed in white coat ceremony..wow?? Is it just me or anyone else also feels this is bit strange?

They don't have the facilities to fit that many people. Hence why graduation is also off-campus.

All that info is on the Facebook group. If you have been accepted, then you should have access to those files.

yeah its super upsetting. i know that for most people, the white coat ceremony is for the fam...i personally dont care to look at myself get "coated" or wtv the term is...big bummer. why cant they find a facility to accomodate this?

Hey guys, I got an acceptance yesterday, but tried accessing the "acceptance packet" online and it's not there. My email says to log into 2014 instead of 2013 which doesn't make any sense to me... but when I tried to log into 2014, my pin password doesn't work... Anyone else have this problem?

Just got accepted off the waitlist this afternoon. 3 time reapplicant, 3.47 cgpa, 3.14 sgpa, 31N.

Pretty much in shock/disbelief right now.

Congrats! I have similar stats compared to you. I'm stilling hoping, but I know my chances are slim right now.

Did you receive notice via email or phone call?

Both, actually. Email came first. My wife and I are in New Mexico visiting my grandmother and were on our way to Santa Fe, middle of the desert. She saw the email on her phone and immediately said "pull over!" I jumped out of the car screaming. Best day in a long time.

We were planning on moving up to Norfolk to do the EVMS SMP next week. Plans changed!

Hang in there.

Not that it matters anymore since I'm pretty sure classes started last week, but the final rejection e-mail was sent 8/13 for alternates in waiting. Also, don't bother asking for admissions counselors to help review the weaknesses in your app or missteps you had in the interview stage, I was told they don't have any. Good luck on this application cycle guys and gals.
