Sorry to hear guys. But at least it's better to have closure than a waitlist or perpetual silence pre-interview.

Did any of you have the hold status before you got the email?

Not as far as I know. I didn't any emails prior to this nor did my status on the application website change.

Rejected! 33/3.65 Complete...late September? I thought I had dodged the rejection wave but spoke too soon.

Good luck to the rest of you!

Rejected by email today. Complete late October

when you click on the STATUS tab on top, it will say in red: "your application is on hold for further review," just below the line: "The information below is your current application and reference status."
thanks!

It seems like Brown students do have a little extra time on their hands. http://youtu.be/uZa-oaEQf8k

SPOTTED! Female lead singer of this video getting into the elevator at RIH yesterday. Whoever you are, I thought about stopping you to say "Hi! You're the girl from the video!" and then I realized...that would be awkward. But anyway, you're famous. SDN famous, that is.

Current students: where do most people live during their first 2 years? I was thinking about looking for an apartment by the Armory/Dexter field--it's about 1.5 miles from both school and RI hospital, and I really like the neighborhood. Any advice?

That would have made my day if you had because she's convinced that I was the one who posted the video on the forum (when it was made, she expected that video was only going to be seen by classmates). On the off chance that you do have the chance to strike up conversation with her, she is quite simply an awesome person and has one of the sharpest wits I've ever come across.

Doorner, to answer your question, most students live up and around college hill with many of us congregated between Wickenden, Fox Point, and Wayland Square. they're all about 20-30 minutes away from the med school by foot and are nestled among some parks, grocery stores, restaurants, bookstores, cafes, and he such. I'll try to find the post I wrote last year when students were asking about neighborhoods.

Armory is not a bad place to live but it is a bit far and away from most med students.

Full disclosure: I live in the Fox Point neighborhood so I'm more than a tad biased...

Rejected by email today. Complete late October

Sorry to hear :/

Hmmm, complete early-mid October and seemed to survive a reject wave? Does brown seem to review in order of completion? :luck:

The admissions committee should be meeting this week right? :xf:

If I remember right, they meet on Thursday or Friday. I think it's written on their website somewhere.

My interview is this Friday. Any late pointers for a rusty interviewer? (It's been a while since the last one)

I just read that article on the home page of the med school website about the nursing, pharmacy, and med students working together. Sounded like it was pretty cool!

Dress nice, be friendly, and be yourself : )

With any luck, your interviews will naturally become free flowing conversations (the interviewers here tend to be laid back and will be sincerely interested in hearing about your background and experiences and are usually very well versed in your application specifics). If they ask you a challenging question regarding medical ethics or health policy, your answer is likely not nearly as important as the thought process that goes into it so don't be afraid to voice your logic as you're going along. Again, for the most part though, you should feel that your just engaged in a natural chat with someone interested in finding out more about you. It'll help that by the time you actually have your interview, you'll have met Barbara and Melissa (who'll both put you at ease) and will have met a number of other admins in addition to med students who can give you the inside scoop on just about anything you're intrigued about.

Best of luck!!!!

Does anyone know if that mean more IIs will be coming out sometime soon? It feels like it's been a loooong time since the last ones were posted here.

Sure. I think I was complete in mid-October. I am a very late applicants and my stats aren't stellar either. Seriously, don't give up, everyone. I notice there are a few open interview spots left in January.

Did you have the "hold" status by any chance?
*please say yes* hehe

Thanks Iorek Byrnison! I am excited as ever. If only this week wasn't so busy, I could focus on my interview.

A question I had is when does the interview day end? I want to meet someone at Brown that day, after the interview, but don't know what time to give them.

Your interview day should be done by 4pm at the latest. Again, best of luck!

Just got the rejection email.
Brown, you broke my heart 🙁

rejected today too, it's a sad thing to wake up to 🙁 keep fighting everyone! Complete October 1st

Did you ever have hold status?

After looking at last year's thread, I'm thinking they will re-review all of us on "hold" (e.g., summer completes that are on hold for further review) once they get through the October/November completes. I hope we will receive an update next week; last year they sent out rejections/IIs to the on-hold people during the first week of December. :xf:

I'd rather not turn the Brown thread into an extension of the Panic thread. Good luck everyone! If you've made it this far, you'll definitely achieve your goals.

I was just posting information about return times, etc. Good luck to everyone else!

I mean, I've seen a lot of posts about the "hold status", so I figured I'd do some research. I'm pretty sure the posts on this thread are a lot less panic-stricken than those on the panic thread.

Has anyone else who was complete in September NOT heard anything? I'm not on hold, I'm not rejected, but I also haven't gotten an II. I really have no idea what is going on and I was complete 9/23.

Are there any others out there like me?

I was complete 9/10 and have not heard anything either! And I don't have a hold status either... Eep.

I'm in the same boat! Complete 9/11

I was actually referring to the adcoms meeting today haha, but good luck to everyone interviewing too!

Just had my interview. One word: Amazing! I will write more later.

This place is pretty awesome, isn't it? Looking forward to hearing how you liked it!

Indeed it is! Here we are:

The interview was amazing. From start to finish, every single person, yes, even the security guard at the front makes sure you feel welcome and at ease. Faculty, staff and current students are all congenial and approachable. It’s basically impossible to have an awkward interview moment here.

The facilities are amazing- or should I say facility. The medical school is one building, but it was designed for aesthetics and comfort. The administrative offices are a few steps from your student lounge, which is a few steps from the anatomy lab, which is a hop from the lecture halls etc. The building is designed to accommodate three academies. Academies are like houses from Harry Potter. There is a red, green and blue academy. The student body is broken up into thirds so you can build strong connections during your four years. Each academy has its own lounge, spirit, etc.

As far as the interviews, well you’ve heard it before. Barbara is the friendliest people you’ll meet. Her knowledge of your application file is uncanny. There were some things she brought up that I had almost forgotten about.

I had an interview with a Brown resident and an admissions staff. Both were laid back. I feel like they made an effort not to hold the typical interview that you read about. We just started talking about everything from current news to movies (mind you, sprinkled in there are hints of classical interview questions, like why medicine). It really was a wholly positive experience.

I’m an in-stater, so I know how beautiful Rhode Island is (that’s right Boston and New York).

Needless to say, access to clinical experiences is without limit, the educational atmosphere seems encouraging, and the opportunities seem endless. You can study women’s reproductive rights in Kenya if you please.

Basically, I’m sold on the school. Now, to only get that acceptance.

I was told ~280 people are interviewed, and there are 60 seats open to us non-PLME, non-linkage, non-EIP people. So, I don’t know how many of those are actually accepted. I was also told that we were in the third batch of applicants, and that acceptances would be released January 21. I’m glad they give an actual date as opposed to us waiting and endlessly sending in LOIs until April.

Good luck to you all. Hopefully you will hear some good news soon.

My roommate interviewed there yesterday, and his opinions seem to match yours perfectly. Hopefully things work out for everyone! 🙂

BAH I CANNOT STAND THE WAIT!! just let me know now if my top choice school is going to say yes or waitlist (or, god forbid, post interview rejection), why make me wait 'til the afternoon.

I even wore my lucky boxers today.

I feel the exact same way. I've been checking the website non-stop. Just a few more hours!

Idk, the last batch they released it late afternoon so it should be coming soon. Can't wait to find out!

To anyone who has recently received an interview invite: what dates were available? I'm trying to get a rough idea of how many interview slots they might have left. 🙂

I'm rooting for all those of you hoping to hear back!

:'( Waitlist.....

I feel like I am not getting off of this thing, judging by how poorly the rest of my application cycle has gone. I hope I do though, Its my number one school.

oh well.
