Just in case anyone was interested, the acts from this year's low yield have been posted online (sadly no epic music video but still a lot of great performances). http://www.youtube.com/user/alpertlowyield

Hope those of you in regions getting snow are somewhere warm and cozy (preferably with hot chocolate and a good book in hand) and that everyone has a happy New Years!

And there it is....the rejection.....I really had quit hoping, but still, its absence made things better.

No rejection here, but I gave up on this school once I saw the guy's post on the last page... just swing the axe already Brown -_-

On U.S. News it says that about 75% of those interviewed are accepted. I also saw on the Brown website that many of their students come from other link/integrated programs. So is that 75% representative of those who are applying the regular way via AMCAS?

Not sure if it's that high. More like ~50-55%. In 2009 they accepted 113 people out of ~210 interviewees, so that's close to 55%. But it may be different now because the class size is 120 instead of 90 back then.

According to the last time I checked US News, at least, the statistics for the last entering class were: 281 interviews, 212 acceptances, for a 75.4% acceptance rate post-interview. I'm still curious about whether this includes the ~60 (I think?) or so people who come in from other guaranteed acceptance programs, like the undergrad path; I would assume it does. Even so, that would only bring the totals to 221 traditional interviews, 152 traditional acceptances, which is still a 68.8% acceptance rate. Not too shabby, if that's the case.

I don't think the pathway people are interviewed, so it's 152/281 = 54%

On my interview day, she told us that they are interviewing 280 for 60 class slots (for traditional applicants, the remainder of the class is filled with people from the other application routes). So, maybe they offer ~100-120 acceptances (?), which would be about 35%-43%.

Unless people can decline an acceptance via non-AMCAS route (i.e. Brown is accepting more people than who end up matriculating via those pathways), they are accepting 152/281 for the 60 spots, based on last year's numbers.

Wikipedia says in 2009, they accepted 113 for <40 spots via the AMCAS route (class size was smaller then), so they're certainly going to accept more than 100-120 if there are 60 spots now.

IIRC the decision date for the most recent batch of applicants who have interviewed is on January 21.

Does the decision come as an e-mail, letter, or does your status on the online portal change?

Can't wait!

I am pretty sure that this was answered one of the first 3 pages of this thread. IIRC it was concluded that the 75% did not include the linkage and that it was ~210 accepted for the 60 spots.

but you might wanna go back and check

210 acceptances for 60 spots? That doesn't sound right at all. I will ask them next week and report back.

For those who have already interviewed, would you mind letting us know if the interviews are full-blind, semi-blind, or open file?

Not sure if it's been discussed already, but has anyone who received the 'hold notification' earlier this cycle heard anything back?

+1 on the hold status. Has since disappeared in dec but have yet to hear anything.
Guess its a rejection now.

Sent from my Dell Streak using SDN Mobile

can someone post the link to the secondary site? I deleted my email with the link.

Thanks!

Just heard from a friend he got his results. Looks like today's the day! Good luck everybody! 🙂

Was Brown your #1? For some reason I thought you were most focused on another school. I hope things work out for you though 🙂

Congrats! What kinda stats are you working with?

After my interview, I was set on Brown. I'm instate, and would love to stay in this area. Thanks!

I guess I have to wait until May now.

+1 Just got accepted too! My first, so I'm flooded w/ excitement and relief. Go Bears!

+1 🙁🙁

I've heard, but don't quote me on this, that this year the admissions committee has decided to curtail their pool of interviewees, which can be inferred to mean a smaller wait list. If Brown Alpert is your top choice, I recommend that you demonstrate your interest along with any updates through a heart-felt written letter to the admissions team. Best of luck! :luck:

Nope, same number of interviewees as last year

And instead of spending hours writing a 'heart-felt letter' to admissions, I would suggest just buying some toilet paper online and mailing it to the admissions office instead. The end result is the same, but at least the toilet paper has a practical use.

Your sarcasm is a bit unsettling. Or are you taking the opportunity to vent your frustration?

Congrats to you 😀😀 Yeah, I will definitely be sending them lots of updates. They can't get rid of me that easily 😎

Congrats to those of you who received acceptances and best of luck to those of you waitlists (just keep up the good fight)! As mentioned before, most waitlist movement will occur around May 15th (the deadline when students holding multiple acceptances need to select a single school).

steackncheese, sorry you feel that way. Can't be sure what the source of your frustration is but if you've sent several updates without any reply, just remember that this season the adcom has had to deal with 50% additional applications, with no increase in their staffing power to the best of my knowledge (and they seemed to already have been working at max capacity the year before).

On another note, I'm going to be on hiatus for much of the next few weeks as I begin to prep more intensely for Step 1. I kinda loathe the pm system on sdn (and yah, I know I really shouldn't complain about a free service) so if I can be of legitimate help, just e-mail me directly at [email protected]. Can't promised I'll answer swiftly or at great length to any queries but I'll do my best. More importantly, it looks like you guys and gals have created a great community and that you've been far more helpful to one another than I ever could have been.

Do you (or anyone) know if IIs are done for this school? I still have silence (complete Sept 17), and obviously the lack of correspondence is extremely frustrating.

edit: apps were up 50% compared to last year? Wow

I got an email last week saying that the committee has completed its preliminary review of applicants... I'm not positive, but I have a feeling that if we haven't already been invited for an interview, they won't be offering any more.

I saw one but it's closed for people with a brown email address...I think it is just PLME students at this point.

Someone should make one! : D

I guess it doesn't make too much sense before May, though. Supposedly a lot of waitlist movement here.

II just now for 2/14. This is a surprise, I had given up on them considering I was complete in July/August

Hmmm I didn't get this email :/ And to the guy/gal above me who received an II, congrats!

That's good to hear.

Well, I'm basing it mostly on the US/World News stats. 291 interviewed for 220 accepted. Even if that includes the PLMEs as guaranteed enrollees, it's ~240 interviewed (290 if they aren't formally interviewed), 180 accepted.

Now, that could be grossly inaccurate, but it would seem to imply a fair share of turnover. I imagine it's because people take the research ranking of a lot of schools (Michigan, WashU, etc.), claim that makes them better than Brown, and then go to those schools instead...even though research has nothing to do with clinical training, and Brown's match list matches (if not exceeds) a lot of the so-called top 20/30.

PLME are not formally interviewed. 180/290 makes sense. Note that 180 includes post-interview acceptances and post-waitlist acceptances. This gives brown a recruitment rate of 33% (60/180), which is consistent with a lot of school.

True. From what I remember, the highest recruitment rates are ~60% at Harvard, 55% at UPenn and Columbia, and decreasing from there. Most med school matriculants get in off the waitlist.
