I received an II today as well! I'm sooooo excited!

Edit: II for University Track

Just received an interview invitation! I am very excited to get the opportunity to interview here as this has been one of my favorites from the beginning!

FYI I was complete on 8/3. Good luck to everyone who has not heard back yet!

Congrats! Did you guys apply only to UP? I applied to both UP and CP and haven't heard a peep from either of them...

Received interview offer yesterday for University Track. Scheduled for 10/12. Super excited 😀.

P.S. - AMCAS submitted 6/18, secondary 8/2

Did anyone else who got rejected from an interview get an email from the Associate Dean of Admissions saying:

"The Admissions Committee has reviewed your application to University Track of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you an interview, which removes you from consideration for this year's class. Our inability to offer you an interview should not be viewed as a comment on your suitability for a career in medicine, but rather, as a result of the large number of highly competitive applicants to our medical school.

On behalf of the admissions committee, I wish you the very best with your career goals."

Even though it was a rejection notification I thought it was a really nice rejection! Anyone else get this? I had the privilege of meeting this woman at the HPAC school fair in Baltimore. She was really nice! Good luck to you all!

Question for y'all - I have the Case secondary but I'm considering withdrawing my app because of my numbers. I have a 3.3 GPA from a top 5 school and 33 MCAT with decent research, employment, leadership. I'm a bit of a nontrad and have been out of college for awhile and did a graduate degree in immunology with a great gpa. Is it worth applying here or will I not get looked at? Anyone know if Case will take a holistic approach? Thank you for the advice.

I'm a fellow applicant but in my opinion, I think you should apply given that Case shows a lot of importance to research. If you can write a really awesome research essay for the school, I think you have a shot at an interview. But again...that's just my opinion. good luck!

Do you think you might attend Case if accepted? If so, then yes, submit the application. Withdrawing your app means that the only numerical chance of acceptance you'll have is zero.

I was debating the same thing and am in a similar position, but with a different career behind me instead of a grad degree. I am near their 10% in all stats. They must have looked holistically because I was fortunate to be asked to interview! I think it's certainly worth a try.

It looks as though only about 10% of interviewees are accepted, but surely if you can get to that stage, you have a chance. :luck:

where did you get this number?

Someone said on one of the previous pages of this thread that 45% of interviewees are accepted which seems a lot more reasonable given the number of people that matriculate. So yeah 10% is way off.

From US News:

Applied: 5293
Interview: 1108
Accepted: 499
Enrolled: 196

Seems more like 45% get accepted after the interview (including acceptances from waitlist movement)

Oooh - this is much better. Thank you! Now I'm way more hopeful for my interview, which is awesome, since Case is right at the top of my list!!! :xf:

I misread the info in the MSAR, which has 1083 OOS interviewed and 158 matriculated. Upon looking back, I don't see acceptance on there, so thanks for those US News numbers.

Sorry for the panic!

Yes, that 10% number is completely ridiculous. Also, false.

I was trying to gauge my chances by looking up MSAR stats, but it was way past my bedtime....

I am glad you all corrected me, because I was thinking the same thing! Much happier with the true acceptance rate!

Now I find it amazing that so many acceptees do not matriculate! I would love to attend Case; wouldn't everyone?! 🙂

Another first year here at UP, just signed up to be a student host. Grats to everyone w. interview invites. Can't wait till we start seeing swarms of people walking around uncomfortably in suits! For those attending the interview, you made a great choice, Case is awesome.

Does anyone know if the student host list be sent out soon? It's not the contact list of MS3/4s that is already posted on iApply is it?

We're still working on it. It is not the M3/4 contact list. Soon, though!

So I have a question about incorporating research into clinical careers for all applicants and any current students...I applied to UP only but I am also interested in research as part of my career. I'm wondering if this will come up in the interview (why I didn't apply to CP). My current interests are relatively broad (also interested in public health and health policy) so that's why i didn't apply to CP. How do those of you in a similar situation plan on answering when asked why you didn't apply to CP (or other 5 year research programs at schools like Pitt)? Do you think students who come out of 5 year programs have careers that are significantly more research intensive than those who don't? I don't think I want a really research intensive career but don't want to have one void of research either...haha i don't know if this makes any sense but i'm just not sure how explain the degree that I want research to be present in my career and how that's affected my decisions.

It's hard to say, since our program is still relatively new. The first class graduated in 2009, so even if they did a three year residency like IM, they would have just finished two months ago and they'd be first year fellows now. In other specialties like surgery with longer residencies, they'd be fourth year residents now. We'll have to wait another 3-5 years before we can see what kind of careers the first few classes of CCLCM grads have.

As for what to say about why not a fifth year, you should just say what you said here: that you're interested in research, but you're not sure you want a research based career. There is an option to do a fifth year for research through the UP, so you can always do one later if you change your mind. To me it sounds like what you're trying to say is that you want an academic medicine career. That would give you the option to pursue research without it necessarily being a requirement, assuming you got hired on a clinical medicine (i.e., practice) track as opposed to a research track.

Thank you, CCLMer. With so many different options it's hard to see right now where each path would lead. Glad to know my decisions fit my current interests!

🙂 Yeah, I echo was CCLCMer said. And while it is a moot point for your app at this point, you mentioned "MPH or other public health" research. This is actually a popular option at CCLCM - 5 of my classmates are enrolled in the MPH programs at Case. It is unequivocally the most difficult master's program to complete in the 5 year timeframe - but it is doable.

I'd be a jerk and make the next response in trinary, but I am on my phone and not lazy enough to do that much work.

I've been complete since August 1 and haven't heard back yet...do Case and CCLCM tend to send II/holds/rejections as soon as they look at our applications?

Complete 7/26 and haven't heard anything from neither Case nor CC...

From what people have said Case generally has a quick turnaround time but it's a lot slower for CC since they interview later and have more essays to read. And If applying to both programs they supposedly don't tell you anything until the both have made a decision (so if you do get interviews at both programs you'll be able to schedule it on the same trip),so the decision from CC is probably the slow step here. It seems like the exception is if you get a rejection at one program before a decision has been made at the other, they'll tell you separately since that doesn't involve scheduling anything. If that's true then no news should mean you at least didn't get immediately rejected at Case...

Can anyone provide some specific insight into what types of student research the CCLCM supports? For example, do they just want bench or clinical hypotheses? Or would they be interested in research in medical education, physician training, hospital safety, or other social science aspects? Thanks and good luck!

Our Dean Young is a big proponent of promoting nontraditional areas of research such as healthcare delivery, and the business of healthcare. Having said that, our curriculum still requires that you have a broad exposure and training in both clinical and basic science research.

I should caution that, IMHO, these types of research likely require a more diverse educational or professional background. Again, this is just my opinion, but I believe successful students doing these types of research usually have additional training that compliments their interests before matriculation.

Edit: let me temper that last statement. Specific types of research - like economics of healthcare, for example, well require extra training not normally part of a premed's education. Other types of research may not have such high barriers to entry.

Ecstatic! UP and CP invite in the same morning. Complete August 1st OOS

Gah! Congratulations!

("Gah!" because I was also complete 8/1, and I now have yet another reason to be neurotic.)

I wouldn't read too much into it. They're not going in order of complete date, and they've been rejecting as well. I was complete 7/23 and I haven't heard yet either.

So is the iApply status page still not working, or are they posting the status updates again?

If only my neuroticism had a rational component...

Good luck to you! I hope you hear soon.

Interview Invite to both programs, 3.5/35 with 3 years working in a lab. <3 I love Case and I'm so excited to be able to visit the school and interview!!! completed 7/30.

Congrats! Did you get an e-mail or was it only posted on iApply?

interview invite to both programs! I submitted my secondary on 7/23 - not sure when I was complete.

Great. Thanks for info. My background is Ph.D in Education and professor with a lot of research so the topic would definitely blend my background with medicine. Good to know. Thanks.
