Complete mid-Sept but no news at all. Called and they said they haven't looked at my file yet, but should have! That was a few weeks ago so not sure why it's taking so long 🙁

Hold as well. I read an old post from 2008 where people say a decent percentage of the class is made up from held applicants. You can get admitted, waitlisted (in April), or rejected from a hold. I feel they put a lot of applicants on hold from the last adcom meetings because it was a small group. They probably want to see what other late applicants they have in store before filling up the class too quickly.

Edit: I read more into this, and I think for most recent years, they do not accept off the hold.

From what I understood when calling to ask that question, they don't typically review again until the end. I did get the impression that if you have anything significant to add, you might get looked at earlier.

I don't know....When I called to ask some questions about the whole process post-Hold list, it just seemed that was the case. Admissions said something to the effect of: your app isn't necessarily going to be looked at again (those words are pretty exact, and I assume it was meant as prior to creating the alternate list), but we do accept updates and letters of intent. That implied to me that significant info might be reviewed as it comes in. I could certainly be way off the mark, however.

I would say give yourself at least 30mins to get to the airport by car. The interview ends at ~415 or 430. It might be best to take a later flight. 6pm is cutting it close.

In other words, it is actually a good thing not to have your application reviewed while on hold because there is only one negative outcome that could come out of that. Im sure that is not the news you want to hear but when they place an applicant on hold, they have decided that they would rather fill up the rest of the class without you.

Im on the hold list too, and it really sucks. Lets just hope for a lot of wait list movement this year. Right now, I am just trying to forget about this decision for 5 months til May and just be thankful Ive been accepted at least somewhere else.

Actually you can call admissions and request a morning faculty interview so that your day ends earlier (it would end immediately after the student interview in the afternoon). My friend did that and was on the RTA before 2 pm and made her 4pmish flight.

That's a bitter way to look at it. It's the exact same thing as being waitlisted, only they leave open the possibility that you will be rejected at some point, and (as is inherent to a waitlist) potentially accepted.

They make a point to accept people from throughout the cycle (which, for the sake of argument, we can assume they actually do), and so cannot accept every very-qualified person they meet per interview session. They may be putting on hold applicants they very much want to accept, but can't, because they have committed to provide an equivalent chance to applicants who are interviewing later.

If they wanted to make the class without you, they would reject you. The hold list/wait list/etc. is designed to allow them to look at everyone in the cycle before making final decisions. It's just an inherent part of a rolling-admissions school that's trying to be competitive at a high level.

Of course, this is more applying logic to how they approach the admissions process - accepting a certain number of people, roughly, per group, and then putting the other could-be-accepted people in the hold group until later. Limiting the size of the hold group would result in some people dropping off. They may do things differently.

I understand the need for a system like this, it is just not a great position to be in. It seems like Case's way of gradually rejecting applicants and leaving some for the waitlist. Simply put, it is a waitlist to be on the waitlist. Anyways, congrats to those who got accepted and good luck to those like myself who are held, interviewing or waiting for an II.

Take the train and save a lot of moola.

There's a parking garage connected to the school. It's free for interviewees. The iApply page has an info packet that provides a map to the garage.

I parked there and it was fine.

I rented a car because I was driving to another interview after and also to check out the 'burbs (moving a family with me). You can usually get really chap deals if you wait until the week before and look online for "last minute deals" links on the car rental websites. I have done that a couple of times, and it has worked out well.

The train goes very close though.

Check iApply. RTA is about to start some construction on the red line that might help you make the decision.

Parking in University Circle is better than it used to be, but it's still fairly scarce and/or expensive. There is a new public garage on Ford near the Mayfield/Euclid intersection that's ~$2/hr, I think.

In order to be accepted or during school? You have to do a summer of basic research and a summer of clinical research if you matriculate.

Is AOA important for any residency matching or career success?

It's helpful but not essential for residency matching. ERAS (the computerized app for residency) will give you the option of marking whether you were selected for AOA, not selected for AOA, or there is no AOA at your institution. The UP does have AOA; CCLCM does not. If you get selected, it's a bonus for your app. I have never heard of an employer post residency caring about whether you were AOA in med school or not, but then I haven't graduated residency yet, so take that with a grain of salt.

It's actually surprisingly common. It's even possible to be accepted to CCLCM and rejected from the UP pre-interview. There is some overlap between what the two adcomms are looking for, but it's not complete overlap.

Just got an interview invite to CCLCM yesterday! I was complete 10/18.

Super excited, but admissions told me that they are manually scheduling interview invites now since they had to add more dates. Have not heard anything from MSTP yet. CCLCM said the last date that they are interviewing is Feb 4th for anyone who is still waiting to hear back.

Not sure what they're doing this year, but in the past it's been the week before Christmas. If you get a call from a 216 area code, pick up. 😀

Keep in mind though that very few people get acceptances in December, because they won't fill the entire class until after interviews are done in February. So it's entirely possible that even after the December acceptances go out, you might not hear about people getting them if none of the recipients are on SDN (or if they don't want to post their acceptances on SDN).

I was creeping on my status page and found a pre-interview hold letter. Is this simply a rejection in disguise? Is there a way to get off of this hold and get an interview?
