Hi friends,
I just interviewed at Dartmouth last week and I absolute loved it! Does anyone know when the next round of acceptances and such might be going out? Also, do they usually inform you over email/status update, or only by snail mail? Sorry if these questions were answered earlier!

At this point, I'm pretty sure they'll be sending out decisions on a weekly basis until the beginning of April. That's what I got out from last year's thread.

And all decisions are through email.

1) When I called, they said they send out decisions every day

2) Acceptances are snail mail

Anybody interviewed in January and has heard back? Why is Dartmouth soooooo slow?!

Users on here who have been accepted said it was via email with a letter in the mail to arrive shortly after. They're only sending out snail mail acceptances now?

Oh weird. Sorry, I didn't see that. I remember the dean saying "we like to send out our acceptances in the mail because you like holding that thick packet in your hands!"

I guess he meant after you already know..? Fun. But definitely less fun.

Waitlisted this morning. Interviewed in Sept. 🙁

Also waitlisted =/ Interviewed in Oct.

I remember that comment also. I think he said it in regards to the financial aid package though.

There hasn't been an acceptance posted here since Jan 11th. What's up, Geisel?

Interviewed early Dec. waitlisted today and withdrawing.
Good luck everyone! Dartmouth is awesome!

Are the interviews open or closed file? Thank you!

Finally rejected. Complete way back in July.

just got an interview invite 😱. Was totally expecting a rejection when I saw the email address. I was complete in late August. My stats are:

3.56/3.57/39R.

Can anyone comment on whether people interviewing this late are generally interviewing for a waitlist spot. Thanks!

Congrats! You're def not interviewing for a waitlist spot--at least not any more than everyone else is! Dartmouth has been accepting very conservatively all year, so I wouldn't expect they would be forced to waitlist you if they like you enough to accept you outright.

Received an II today too. Yay!

II today as well! I am shocked, to be honest...thanks Dartmouth, for looking over my application once more! 😀

Have any of you that got an II today been sending updates/LOIs?

I've been lurking for a while, but I thought I'd let you guys know I got admitted 3/8/13, interviewed Jan. 31st. I'm a Dartmouth alum, stats sGPA 3.49/cGPA 3.31/33Q.

congrats! that gives me hope since i too am on the lower end numbers wise. i interviewed in feb and loved the school. hoping for some love! =)

I just turned down my interview invitation here. I hope it goes to someone on SDN who has been waiting for an II.

Anyone can give us an update on how the 4th year did on match day this year? Hoping they did well, and congrats!

Their match list is only accessible to Dartmouth students by logging in, and copy-pasting would probably make them mad since they password protected it, but below are a couple highlights:

DHMC- 9 people
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania- 6 people
Brigham & Women's- 4 people (surgery, surgery, diag rad, path)
Mass General- 2 people (anesthesiology, internal med)
Children's Hospital, Boston- 1 person
Beth Israel Deaconess- 2 people
Memorial Sloan-Kettering- 2 people (rad onc, transitional)
Yale-New Haven- 2 people
Hospital for Special Surgery- 1 for orthopedics
Rhode Island Hospital- 3 people
St. Luke's-Roosevelt NY (Columbia)- 1 person
Mt Auburn (Harvard)- 1 (transitional)
Cambridge Health Alliance (Harvard)- 2 people
Ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer @ University of Miami
Opthalmology @ Penn
Pennsylvania Hospital (Penn)- 1 (med prelim)
Barnes-Jewish @WashU- 1 (anesthesiology)
Johns Hopkins Hospital- 1 (anesthesiology)
Icahn @Mount Sinai- 2 people

So basically, summarizing Ivy League matches:
12 Harvard, 9 Dartmouth, 2 Yale, 8 Penn, 1 Columbia etc...pretty darn good.

44 going into primary care (med, pedes, family med combined), 1 derm, 1 rad onc, 12 pedes, 27 IM, 12 Emergency, 5 ophtho, 5 plastic surgery, 1 ENT, 2 neuro, 5 orthopedics, 4 general surgery, 1 urology, 1 vascular surgery, 2 path, 9 anesthesiology (quite good match), and a few others (too lazy type everything!)

Most popular locations: California (12), Massachusetts (16), New York (14), Pennsylvania (10), Washington (6)

Many other good ones, but I was picking out ivies in particular. For a very small class relatively, having over 30 match to ivy league residencies is quite impressive.

I think that's good because you haven't been rejected or wait listed, so I'd think you'll either be outright accepted or wait listed. just my guess though

If you are waitlisted later on are you more likely to get accepted off the waitlist than someone who was waitlisted in Jan or Feb?

im not sure. I think he said no news is good news, but the waitlist isnt ranked so they seem to fill spots with the people similar to the ones that dropped out.

That's the idea, remember how Director Welch described the baseball ranking analogy? They give you a numerical ranking after the interview, and they start from the bottom of the list to reject/waitlist people and the top of the list to accept people. They move towards the middle of the list, so the later you are wait listed means you are higher than people waitlisted before you. However, if you just interviewed yesterday that would change things.

I interviewed Dec. 4th and haven't heard a thing either. I am hanging on to the "no news is good news" logic.

Do you guys know the final day by which Dartmouth will be sending out acceptances? I interviewed February 28th, dying to hear back!

I got the word that second look weekend is May 3rd and 4th, so I expect that the rest of acceptances should be handed out in time to plan to go to that. Best of luck to those who haven't heard back yet!! Keep your fingers crossed.

can you list the California locations by any chance, please?

x2! I assume some are at that Cal Pacific site they have in SF, but it'd be helpful to see it in more detail.

Also, accepted in the last few days. First interview went reasonably well, second interview felt like my interviewer was trying to convince me that my interests wouldn't be a good fit at Dartmouth. Funny now this cycle works sometimes.

Congratulations! Did you hear this week or last Friday? I think they meet Thursdays, so I was just wondering when I should be prepared..

Just wondering how much weight should one put, if any, on the fact that Dartmouth dropped to 38th on the US News Best Research this year from being 31ft last year? Whether it's deserved or not, the US News ranking seem to get some attention, as can be seen from Dartmouth itself having a 20x20 aim. Yet Dartmouth seems to be a great school, definitely top 20 in my opinion. That's why the lowering of its rank seems to make little sense. Maybe its within the standard error ... Thoughts anyone?

For those of you waitlisted; are we are still expected to complete the financial aid checklist for 2013-2014 prior to April 15th regardless of whether we hear back before that time?

any idea of how many people make the waitlisted or rejected?

Yes, that way if you are offered an acceptance they will have a financial package available for you.

Thanks for pointing this out. I did not notice it. Not sure how significant it is too.

Thanks! I heard by email on Monday.

Perhaps against traditional SDN wisdom, with regards to schools like Dartmouth/Brown/Mayo I actually think the match list is a more accurate indicator of how excellent the school is. For that reason, I'm personally not too concerned. I think Dartmouth does have its weaknesses, but I don't feel that prestige is one of them.

Dartmouth just can't compete for research with hospitals with research centers in large cities. They do have the 7th highest average step 1 score though (236), according to the new edition of US News. It's still a top 20 in most people's minds, applicants and doctors alike, in terms of both prestige and difficulty of admission.

So I have been on and off of this thread for quite a while now (since interviewing way back in October) and have finally decided to comment (my 1st on sdn, how historic). If what Mr. Welch said is true, about creating the batting average list and then going from the top down accepting people and bottom up rejecting, then isn't the middle of the list considered the "wait list" section? As such, the "no news is good news" logic (which I also remember hearing mentioned during the interview day) wouldn't really make sense as that would mean you're just closer to the middle of the pack rather than near the top or bottom. Again, this is assuming that our batting averages don't change and that the process is exactly as it was described on interview day.

Now, I know the accept/reject cut-offs must be fluid, but I don't really think the process is as simple as going from top to bottom and vice versa. I think this is actually, probably (hopefully?) good news for people that haven't heard back yet as it would mean they're in the gray zone for accept/wait list and are thus higher on the list (or more depressingly in the reject/wait list zone).

Sorry for rambling, just something I have been thinking about neurotically (not that it would change anything) for the past 6 months. At least it's tournament time so I can spend/waste my life watching basketball rather than living on sdn. Lol
