If you don't mind sharing, what kinds of interview dates were available to you? I'm considering sending a letter of interest to Dartmouth, but it might not be worth the trouble if they are already booked with interviews through spring. FWIW, I haven't been rejected yet despite being complete in mid July. Assuming they have already given my application some consideration, this gives me hope that I'm still eligible for an interview...

For my invite, the available dates were in December up to the holidays so I'm guessing all of next year is still available.

argh!! this anticipation is killing me.. I was complete 9/11.. GRR.. congrats!

Also complete around that time, not a word since. I am actually starting to get worried now. Anyone know how late into the season they conduct interviews?

Hey guys!

for those who have interviewed at Dartmouth, does anyone remember the name of the admission person who gave the talk during the info session?

thanks!

thanks for posting just to point out that you didn't apply there because of <negative things>. you're obnoxious.

For those of you suffering long waits for interviews/decisions, keep in mind that the admissions process is pretty unique here- I think Andy told you guys about the "batting average" thing right? In any case, the short version is that you might wait for months and then get an II or acceptance out of the blue here due to the nature of the beast. I waited I think 6-8 months, and then got accepted, no waitlist. Then I have classmates who heard literally 2 days after their interview. Theres a method to the madness, but dont bother trying to figure it out lol.

Wow. 🙁 That barely even makes sense.

I don't remember hearing about this batting average thing...any chance you could explain or should we really not bother trying to figure it out?

He did make an analogy to batting averages but it was referring to post-interview decisions. They calculate a score for your application and work their way from the top (score of 1000), offering admissions, while rejecting the bottom of the list. Basically, the top and the bottom of the pile get news first. They also hand out very few admissions, so no news is good news for the majority of interviewees.

Thanks for the info!

Any idea how this works for pre-interview status applicants? I would like to know what the process is for deciding who gets an interview and who doesn't. I would also like to know if sending a LOI would help. (For example, I know at Brown, a LOI will get your application re-reviewed most of the time). Anyone have any ideas?

does anybody know when they start sending out post-interview rejections?

Hi Guys, are there any current students on here who will be sticking around campus over the winter holidays...and might be willing to host? I have an interview during the winter break so haven't been able to find a host yet. The hotels unfortunately are about $100 a night and I have to stay two nights because there won't be any buses or trains leaving the night of my interview day.

Would love some suggestions on how to make this trip more affordable! thanks

Yeah that will be tricky, there probably will be very few 1s and 2s on campus then. The hotels in Hanover are really expensive, but Lebanon has a bunch of "chain" hotels like Hilton etc that should definitely be less than $100 a night. Other than that, keep trying with the official student host system - they sund us emails all the time asking for hosts, so theres still a chance that someone will come thru.

I can say this much: I know for a fact that if you actually have a genuine and compelling reason that Dartmouth is your first choice, and you tell them about it, they will take note. That doesn't mean that you will get an interview if you wouldn't have otherwise, but it DOES mean that if you are in the middle of the pack, your app will probably get re-read. But if you are sending a form letter out to Dartmouth and a bunch of other schools, they'll see thru it pretty easy.

Are they receptive to Letters of Intent? I interviewed here and really loved the school. I feel like this would be the best place for me and my goals.

If I got accepted here I would go.

Great, thanks for the info. I sent them an update letter (pretty generic) yesterday. I didn't send a LOI stating my specific interest in the school because one side of the "to send or not to send" LOI argument is that applicants do not have enough information about the school pre-interview to write about why you want to go there.

But, if I'm still not rejected/invited a month from now, I'll take your advice and let them know why Dartmouth is one of my top choices. Hopefully they'll like my app enough to offer me an II before then 😀

Anyone know if we will you be able to see a change in the online portal if you get an II or rejection? I've been complete since like early September and haven't heard anything (2 full months! Ahh!!!). I check the portal almost every day but am starting to think maybe it doesn't change.....

Try being complete since early July... And no, it's not worth incessantly checking the portal. If you get an interview or rejection, you'll get an email.

I sent them an update/letter of interest last cycle; they said they'd add it to my file.

How did you send it? Did you email the office of admissions with an attachment or do something else?

I've been emailing updates in-text and they have been acknowledging them and adding to my file

does dartmouth have any pattern of sending out acceptances? do they send a few every other week do most early on interviewers get some sort of response in January? thanks

Got an acceptance here today! I'm in shock right about now 🙂

I visited Dartmouth last year. All round great school, but Hanover was pretty depressing 👎

There were no lights after sunset, so it felt dark and cold. There weren't as many students on the college green and they were dressed really casually. Yet Dartmouth is still a top choice of mine 🙂

nychila: how was it!? really crossing my fingers for you here 🙂

Email and snail mail acceptance... I think I interviewed in early september.

rejected today- complete 9/10. Rather bummed as this was a top choice of mine, oh well. Best of luck to everyone else!

Thanks bear. Staff were very friendly, interviewers only ask simple questions to get to know you better, and interviewees are really cool to hang out with. They're looking for unique applicants, and I think that you would definitely fit!

Awww shucks, received pre-interview rejection email this morning. Complete mid July. I was planning to send a LOI in early December. :-(

NOOOOO that means mine is coming. Damn, this week sucks as far as pre-interview rejections go. Not to sound stalkerish NCPremed, but it seems like you and I were both in the "don't reject right away, re-review after Thanksgiving" piles at a few schools and I was hoping for the best for both of us!
