Is anyone else applying to the METEOR program? I received a flyer for the program in my acceptance package, and it sounds like a great opportunity. Are there any current students who are familiar with it? Thanks! 🙂

Hmmm... I'd say about a week? I think the mail was backed up due to Hurricane Sandy complications. I sent my letter of interest about 2 weeks ago!

You sent an LOi before getting the acceptance email, right?

Woah, a week between the interview and acceptance? The link they sent me said 8-10 weeks post-interview.

Woops, sorry I misread what you wrote. I meant a week between an acceptance notification via email and receiving the package in the mail with the METEOR program flyer.

I interviewed on August 31st and was accepted October 15th at 9am 😉 I never sent out a LOI or anything, just thank-you emails after my interviews.

Last I heard, the interview pool increased to 1000. I'm not sure about the total acceptance. And I think their class is at 190 now? There are so many varying figures out there; but I got the 190 from a 2012 scholarship video on youtube posted by GWU.

Ahhh gotcha, I was going to say, you must have had an outstanding application if they accepted you so quickly 😛

does anyone know when world news or msar gives the number interviewed does this number include those who are invited for an interview but decline it. Because feel a lot of people would decline interviews to GW when it gets later in the season. thanks.

That is the same way I look at it.. helps maintain an optimistic outlook

Often schools post their matriculation rates which are in the single digits (in GWs case around 2%) so after an interview your chances jump almost 3000%... its a nicer way to look at it

It actually makes me more nervous haha. The way I see it, I've got to beat out the person sitting to my left AND the one sitting to my right.
And having one group interview experience under my belt taught me that there are not as many socially inept people applying to medical school as I thought...😛

I thought the class size was 190. You quoted 178, minus 190, leaves 12 students unaccounted for. I'm guessing they come from the programs that are pre-matriculated; that is, those that were admitted to a 7 year BS & MD program or those in undergrad that applied as sophomores based on SATs, grades, and ECs, allowing them to skip the MCAT.

Not a big deal, just making conversation. You can ignore my question. 🙂
 
When you guys emailed the photo they request in the interview confirmation, what type of photo did you select? I was going to pick one that was taken at a symposium (with business clothing) but I wasn't sure if people were selecting passport-style ones.

Just ensure it's 2x2 and professional. I sent in a larger pic and they specifically asked for a 2x2.

Btw your mdapps says you interviewed on 1/11? Or was it 11/11?

Oh I see.. I am not sure maybe this years class size is going to be bigger since these numbers are for last year.. or maybe it is the way you explained it I really don't know your guess is as good as mine

You're welcome! It wasn't in the email, which is why I initially sent them a better quality pic. MDApps is currently not letting us login, so there are a few changes I need to make. I was originally scheduled for 1/11 and had it bumped up to 1/4. I keep the IAs in there beforehand so ppl can see future interviews. 🙂

Yeah, I'm so confused. I've found that GWU is such an enigma when it comes to researching certain specifics.

Haha, I know, when I got accepted I missed the instructions to accept entirely and ended up emailing and asking like a doofus because I was overwhemed. LoL

Thanks, I wish you the best of luck, too. I'm 99.9% sure I'm going here if accepted. We might be classmates!

Thank you! I'm still waiting on my state school to show me some love, but if it'd be a tough decision to make between the 2 (if I was lucky enough to have that option).
If not classmates, definitely peers/colleagues! 👍
 
I will be interviewing Tuesday November 20th.

I will arrive in DC, Monday November 19th at around 5:00p.

I would like to walk around the school/city before my interview.

I'm trying to get people together to just hang out and grab drinks Nov19/20.

Rejected today as well, pre-interview. Was put on hold 10/12, sent in LOI about two weeks ago.

every rejections hurts a little more.

At interview they specifically said 177-180 students for this year's incoming class.
 
Oh my. I thought the rejections sent in the first week of November would be the last of the pre-interview rejections til January/February, based on last year's thread. Guess they're doing things differently this year.
I'm still on hold for re-review since September :xf:

I too am curious about declined interview invitations. I've never considered the factor you mentioned there; declined interview invites. Another oft-misunderstood number is the Applied:Interviewed ratio. It's not as bad as it might initially seem when you consider applicants who don't return secondaries, which might in some cases be close to half of the total applicant pool. Here's one (anecdotal) instance of this:

rejected by email. complete mid-Aug. put on hold for re-review 1 month ago (2 days after sending them an update).

I sent them an in-area email earlier this week so they must have really disliked all of my correspondence 🙁 everytime I wrote them, it pushed me closer to a rejection. oh well, nice to know now than dragging it out. i was really feeling you gwu... i thought we would be a good match for reals.😡
 
No underestimating medical schools and their difficulty of getting in

Rejected. Was put on hold. Im amazed I was not outright rejected (drexel, boston, hofstra, brown, rochester)

Cgpa 3.72
Sgpa 3.61

MCAT PS 10 VR8 BS 8

Even though MCAT averages are slightly lower compared to other md schools, even at gw nearly 9 out of 10 applicants get rejected pre interview. Applicant pools this year r very competitive. Also, I know there r people out there who have done more than I have and I could have done some things better to stand out EC wise. I realize my realities and accept them. No worries. It was good to try. Keep pressing on everyone.

Aw, chin up, cinamin! I, too, got rejected from a school a few days after sending an LOI/update. It's a huge bummer. Good luck to you and everyone else with their other schools!
 
Hey Africaaa and noracao, congrats on your acceptances!

Do either of you mind posting what you thought of the interview day and your general impressions of the school? Specifically, the students you met and the atmosphere?

I'm still on hold but I enjoy reading about people's experiences at GW, since it's my top choice. And I'd especially like to hear the thoughts of people who were accepted! 👍
