Hey Africaaa and noracao, congrats on your acceptances!

Do either of you mind posting what you thought of the interview day and your general impressions of the school? Specifically, the students you met and the atmosphere?

I'm still on hold but I enjoy reading about people's experiences at GW, since it's my top choice. And I'd especially like to hear the thoughts of people who were accepted! 👍

Sure, I would love to share about my experience and thoughts regarding GWU. This was my first interview back in late August, and I was pretty nervous just because I didn't know what to expect. During interview day, we were able to see the amazing facilities available to the medical students as well as meet the staff who were all welcoming. My student interviewer was someone I would LOVE to be friends with in real life ahahahaha. I was nervous at first, but interviewing with him really took the edge off. It was 100% conversational, and I forgot I was actually in an evaluating process since he was so great to talk to. My faculty interviewer was wonderful as well. We had a lot of fun, and he really appreciated the fact that I had opinions on certain things. Overall, the interviews are basically just meeting new and awesome people. The less you think of it as an evaluating process, the more fun it is. GWU is wonderful, and the phenomenal city just adds to how great of a learning experience the medical school has to offer. It's my top choice, and I ran around and screamed like a crazy when I received an acceptance email 😍 See you all next fall!

So Africaaa and I interviewed on the same day, and we even had the same faculty interviewer! I had a very similar experience; both interviews were very laid back and conversational. And even though it could have been a coincidence, I felt really good "chemistry" with the other interviewees. Some of us even hugged goodbye at the end of the day. 🙂 Also, GW is in a fantastic location. Just relax and enjoy the adventure of interviewing there!

So Africaaa, have you decided to commit to GW for next fall?

Thanks for the responses, guys! I really like closed file, conversational interviews. And it's key to me that the current students seem happy with their choice.

Eeeeekk I really hope I get a chance to interview with GW to see the school and let them get to know me better 😍
Chances are slim I'll be joining you but it's still hard not to be hopeful. Every day that passes without a rejection e-mail feels like a good day :ninja:

I forgot to mention how sweet the other interviewees were! Thanks, NCPremed 😉 I'm pretty much set on GW as of right now, and I've even applied to a research scholarship through the medical school. I guess we find out about financial aid next semester... Fingers crossed! I hope you to see you here next fall!

BEST OF LUCK! And yep, everyone seemed to be in love with the program. A friend of mine actually goes there, and she says although it's tough, she's "living the dream."

Dude, I just took a gander at the match list: http://www.gwumc.edu/alumni/matchday/2012bystate.html

Holy crap is that an awesome match list! I'm so eager that I wish I could bump up my interview to tomorrow, lol.

Right?! I saw the list before and I was super impressed, especially with all the NY ones! 😀

went from complete to re-review back to complete and now again back to re-review. I'm a little confused

I think a few other people had similar situations. I don't think it's indicative of anything so I wouldn't read too much into it.

II today!! First one! Complete 9/2 and was put on re-review in October.

The interview dates are still in January.

I'm withdrawing post-interview. Goodbye GW thread & good luck to you all!

Thanks - and congrats on your acceptance! 😀

As for me, GW is just movin' on up my list the more I learn about it... 😍

Thank you both for this! 👍👍

Anyone know if the admissions office is gonna be closed Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for Thanksgiving?
...it'd take some of the edge off the adrenaline rush I get every time I receive a new e-mail.

I would imagine they are closed on these days.

Not sure about today but definitely tomorrow and most likely Friday.
I know what you mean about the e-mail adrenaline rush. I'm going to try to ignore it this weekend 🙄

withdrawing its just too spensive! i hope it frees up a spot for somebody!!

Complete since mid-July, and still "hold for re-review"... seems like they've sent out 2 waves of rejections at this point. Could this mean I'm eventually destined for an interview? Come on GW, give me some love!

Where does everyone see this hold for re review?

It's here at the secondary application - you can view your status: https://jboss.gwumc.edu/AdmissionsOfficeWeb/

That's what I keep hoping! Complete since 7/31 & on hold for re-review since 9/20 here. :xf:
ETA: Did some quick digging in last year's thread and saw a few people rejected in December and February who had been on hold since July/Aug/Sept. Sooooo there's really no pattern. Just the standard crapshoot of the admissions game.

For GW its definitely a crapshoot.. I applied last year and was on hold for most of the application cycle and rejected late. This year I interviewed first week of October and when I mentioned that I had applied last year and had not been offered an interview the interviewer asked me why I thought that was. I told him its possibly because I improved my credentials through research and clinical experience and the interviewer literally said that "its possible but to be honest its hard to get to everybody a fair look so they might have not given your application a thorough look" and it stuck with me because here we are as applicants putting so much into the process and many of us are not getting a fair chance. Ya they have a lot of applicants but why invite so many secondary applications if you cant do your due dilligence. Frustrating is all.

Interesting... I've def wondered about this w gw, w so many applicants how DO they sort through them? They must have some sort of algorithm to weed certain ones out both on the top and bottom maybe, but who knows. Such a weird process...

Yikes, that's troubling...but not too surprising for a school that got 14.5k apps last year, I suppose.

I'm currently worried that I'm gonna be rejected before my grades for this semester are finalized the second week of December. I'm expecting A's in some pretty difficult upper-level science classes (significant for me since my sGPA is certainly on the low side). Should I send an update/LOI this week with my grades at midterm and projected final grades? Or just hold off a few weeks til the end of the semester? Any advice would be appreciated!

I sent an update/LOI after my summer classes were over in August and an in-the-area notice in October...I don't want to be overbearing but this school is my #1 choice.

I'd wait until the grades come out in a few weeks. Projected grades seem little more than guesswork.

Thanks, Goobs. I think I'll write a solid letter with my final grades and more reasons why I'm interested in GW.

Gonna hope I don't get on the chopping block before then :xf: :ninja:

It looks like I'm in the same boat as many as you. On hold for re-review. I hate this "post-secondary limbo".

I'd wait too, but I also wouldn't be worried about annoying them, especially if they've had you on hold for a long time. Keeping quiet isn't going to make them notice you. As long as you have something significant to say then I don't think they mind receiving a few emails from the same person. I've heard that GW wants you to show them that you really want it. I was on hold for a month and I'm fairly certain that keeping GW up to date and an LOI is the reason I have an interview next week. Same goes for some other interviews I've gotten.

Are they interviewing in December, too? If so, which Fridays? Would anyone mind posting/PMing me their interview dates? It relates to my interview and ticket purchase timing...

I was wondering if everyone will be placed on HOLD FOR RE-REVIEW before getting II or it is possible to receive II without the HOLD status ?

I did not get a hold status. I believe Hold status is when they review your application, and decide to not interview you on the first pass, but will reconsider later...better than an outright rejection. Kinda like how I believe the "small pool" status is.

Yup, no hold here either: I went from submitted to interview invite.

Accepted today via email. Interviewed 11/1.

3.85 overall
3.78 sci

Has anyone tried the "in the area" tactic and actually gotten a response from the school? Not sure if it is worth anything. Waiting for an interview....

Congrats!

Accepted! Interviewed on 11/6. They told us 8-10 weeks too!

Edit: I saw someone ask about the interview day so I thought I would add my experience.

My first interview (faculty) went well. My interviewer seemed very friendly and the conversation flowed easily. I got asked a pretty tough question about health-care policy at the start of the interview, but the intent of that just seemed to be whether or not I would panic.

The more intense out of the two interviews, to my surprise, was the student interview. I was encouraged at the start of the interview to "act normal" as I would with my friends, but I never got the sense that my interviewer liked me very much.

Congrats to all those accepted! I hope my decision comes that fast, too. I interview 12/7.

Congrats!

Tried it, but it doesn't work 🙁

i interviewed on 10/11 and haven't heard anything. anyone else in this situation? it's making me kind of paranoid that people who interviewed almost a month after me have been hearing responses already...

Same situation but Congrats to those who got in 🙂

Hey all who interviewed, how big is the interview group? Does the tour go outside?

I think my interview group had about 20 to 25 people in it and we did go outside but only briefly when going from the student facilities to the hospital which is about a block away.

It's so odd that people are getting different turnaround times post-interview. I wonder why?

Congrats on the acceptances everyone! I now have even more of adrenaline rush when I check my email lol.

.
My group had 15 kids, and they interview on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The tour goes outside only for about the minute it takes to cross over to the hospital from the medical school, and then back. The rest of the tour is in the buildings.

Congrats! They must have really loved you. I interviewed on 11/6 too, and had resigned myself for a long wait. Now I'm a big ball of anxiety again thinking I could hear any time, and of course also freaking out that I've been passed over. I wish I had been asked a question about health policy since I work in the field. Instead I got asked a ton of questions about random college sports that I'm not sure won me any points with my student interviewer. Anyway, good luck with the rest of the cycle!

"selected as an alternate" earlier today....I'm assuming this is the same as waitlist? Kinda strange considering how my interview went, but hoping for good news in the spring! Congrats to everyone with an acceptance!
