has anybody been on hold for re-review for awhile, wrote a LOI, and still haven't heard anything back? i'm freaking out this is my top choice and i just really want an interview!!

Hang in there man, it's only November....there are still plenty of months to be called in for an interview.

I am interviewing on November 9th, my first interview. I am really nervous and would like to know what kind of questions do they ask besides "tell me about yourself" and "why GW?" Any questions on ethical dilemmas in particular?
Also, once interviewed, do they revisit your file to make the final decision or will it be only interview based decision? I ask this because my MCAT is not great.

sooooo how is everyone planning on paying for this school? even if you get the maximum financial aid, its going to be preeetty expensive compared to alot of the other schools..unless im reading it wrong. isnt this the most expensive school in the nation? trying to see if its even worth going to the interview because me no have monies :scared:

So yes, this school is quite expensive, one of the most expensive in fact. However, there are a few things to consider for any private/expensive school:

1.) The cost of attendance (COA) at GWU has actually decreased slightly in recent years. Part of the reason for GW's probation back in 2008 was their high COA, which they've consequently tried to bring down. GW is still really expensive, but the fact that the cost has actually decreased is somewhat encouraging considering the trend at most schools for tuition to increase a LOT every single year.

2.) You might hit the jackpot with a big scholarship. This is unlikely, but you never know unless you go through the whole application/interview process.

3.) Public service loan forgiveness: Are you interested in any specialties that might have long residencies/fellowships? If so you are likely to be in residency for 5+ years. In that case, so long as you are working for the state or local government or for a non-profit, approved organization, etc, you will be eligible for public service loan forgiveness after 10 total years. Doing income based repayment during a 5+ year residency means you will have minimal payments during residency then <5 years of actual repayment before the rest of your loan balance is entirely forgiven by the federal govt. Two major assumptions of this are 1.) That you will in fact be working in an eligible field and 2.) that public service loan forgiveness will even exist in 10+ years. Read the tea leaves as you see fit...

4.) Many states have some sort of loan forgiveness program. For example, North Carolina offers up to $56,000 in "Forgivable Education Loans" to state residents, and these loans are entirely forgiven if you practice in North Carolina in any specialty for at least four years. I am still trying to determine if these loans can be applied to out-of-state institutions like GW, but make sure you check the websites of your own state's loan programs in case there is something you might be eligible for.

EDIT: I am currently in the process of finding out if I can use NC's forgivable education loans at GW. I'll let you guys know what I find out. Any other NC residents accepted to GW so far?

A bigger factor is the cost of living. DC is pricey. But, I think that my husband stands a good chance at landing a well-paying job, so that will off-set things. (sorry for you folks who are goin' it alone!)

I think there are schools in MI, OH, and SC that have OOS tuition that's even higher.

Yes, GW mentioned this during my interview day (PSLF). Once (if) I get accepted somewhere, I'm certainly going to look into this, especially since many health-care conglomerate organisations are considered non-profits.

Any recent interview invites? What month of 2013 are they up to now?

has anybody been on hold for re-review for awhile, wrote a LOI, and still haven't heard anything back? i'm freaking out this is my top choice and i just really want an interview!!

I've been on hold since July, written 3 LOI's, an in-the-area email, and still have not heard anything. My stats are slightly above average for them.

Hey guys, I don't know if there are any North Carolina residents looking to go to school here, but I just received an email about North Carolina's "Forgivable Education Loans." Unfortunately, they do not cover out of state schools if there is a comparable program in NC. Since there are four medical schools in NC, George Washington University is ineligible for this program. Just thought I'd share. Guess we'll have to rely on public service loan forgiveness.

So I am interviewing this week (Tuesday) and I haven't heard anything back from the hosting coordinator...has anyone else had success getting set up with a student host?

Do you think you're going here next year, NCPremed? I've pretty much decided that I want to 😀

Hmm. I guess I have to give up on the student host thing & reserve a hostel bed. Bummer, that's some extra money I wasn't planning on spending.

edit: Found a friend of a friend to stay with in the Fort Totten area. Sounds like things were a little hectic with exams + hurricane and they are having a hard time figuring out hosts.

i was hoping someone who has interview could confirm that the lady who provided the tour of the school and hospital was Jannette and is who we are suppose to send thank you notes too. thanks so much

I'm curious what in the area e-mails are? I've read about multiple people submitting them, but I haven't heard of them...what do you say in one? Do they serve to just show continued interest in the school?

Thanks!

Something like hi I'm from California and I'm flying in to dc to interview somewhere else. If I were to receive an interview could it be scheduled around the same time so I can save money?

But a lot more refined and polite obviously. It's worked for me before, but not at GWU.

Yep, they've worked for me, too. I haven't sent one in to GWU, though.

And for the person bringing up IBR and loan forgiveness, keep in mind those only affect federal loans. Your private loans don't qualify for any of those awesome government programs. You can, however, work primary care in rural or underserved areas and receive direct payments to your loans.

This all hits close to home b/c I'm already in over $100k of debt from undergrad. I'm hoping to land an HPSP scholarship with the Navy: $20k sign-on, full tuition, and $2k monthly stipend during all 4 years of med school in return for 4 years of service as a Naval officer and physician. But I wouldn't recommend it unless you've already considered serving and want to serve. Most that go this route just for the money end up miserable.

Gw says a decision is usually reached 6-8 weeks following an interview. Does anyone know if they tend to be faster with decisions based on last years results? thanks.

6-8? try 10

Damn, ff that's the case, then it's pretty much an auto-rejection for me at this school. I submitted secondary to GWU late Sept lol
this is for post-interview decisions..

Oops my bad. I didn't read the orIginal question properly. Do you know how long it will take to hear back from them pre interview?

Varies. I heard back in a matter of days, others get on hold for months before interviews. Can't really give it a definite answer

I was told 8 weeks post interview. so i wanted to know based on last year cycle if they usually take at least 8 weeks or is it normally faster. thanks.

I've heard it usually is towards the 10 week duration on the 8-10 week timeline.

I think someone heard back that interviewed on Sept 25 by Oct 25 in this thread.. so it really does vary a lot

Congrats!

Mine still has the "complete" status and I was complete 9/10. Getting soooo anxious now cause GW is my first choice!

Congrats!! I remember a couple of weeks ago I was telling you we had similar stats. Looks like it all worked out for you! 🙂

Thank you both! I requested to reschedule it to that Friday. I really need to minimize my days off. I still have 2 of my top schools yet to send me a decision on my app. I'm really, really hoping to also get IIs to Drew/UCLA and Utah's MD/PhD. :xf: I'll let you know if I get that Friday or the next. GL to the rest of you!

EDIT: Make that 4 to include OHSU and LLU... It's amazing how you lose track of your top schools amidst the excitement of an II, lol.

I submitted 9/20 and haven't even received a complete email. :-(

just got on re-review, complete 9/13

Complete first week of September. Placed on re-review last week

Yep same here. Complete 9/9 haven't heard a thing.

I was complete 9/10. I e-mailed admissions the other day and they said they take 6-8 weeks now. Mine's gonna be sitting there for 8 weeks by next Monday. I hope it's not going to be a flat out rejection.

Does anyone know if GW always puts peeps on-hold first or sends out straight rejections from "complete" ? :scared:

I was complete 9/9, so I'm in the same boat as you guys. My app is on hold for re-review. Have they been continuing to send out II's in the past weeks?

Interviewed 9/27. Got put on alternate list. Not too bummed since I would rather go to where I've been accepted.

I interviewed at GW immediately after interviewing at ECU/Brody...literally one of the cheapest schools in the country followed by one of the most expensive. The GW sticker shock was pretty bad!

Haha yeah I couldent justify paying that much when Brody is so affordable

Rejected today 👎 Complete mid August. Put on hold September than like walking up to a hot girl with no game, rejected. Good luck everybody else.

Oh dear god, I can feel the rejection flying into my inbox right now. Holy ****, I really want to go here. 🙁

Alternate-listed yesterday. Interviewed end of September. Oh well, I'll be withdrawing for another acceptance. Good luck to everyone else still in the running!

so it took 6 weeks from II to get a decision?

any tips for interviewing here? got my first interview here next week.
Thanks ahead of time.

Rejected via e-mail on 11/7. Complete on 9/18, was put on "re-review" for a while. OOS, 3.55/36M.

Just got changed from complete to re-review. Sigh.
Does anyone know how receptive they are to update letters?

went from complete to re-review back to complete and now again back to re-review. I'm a little confused
