The mistake, if you are interested: I used a word improperly. I forgot to look up the definition, and was relying on my nebulous impression of the word. I am sure this has probably happened before, though, but gawd dang it.

Don't sweat it, man. I'm sure they come across a stray grammatical mistake or two with lots of applicants - whether on apps or during interviews - and I highly doubt it affects their decision. Maybe they'll notice and pause for a second while reading your update, but if the letter (on the whole) is good then you're fine.

so i sent the e-mail update to gw per their request and they never responded back. i've sent 2-3 updates to them in the past and they have always let me know they received them. did anyone who sent them a requested update e-mail receive a response saying they did, in fact, receive the update? just curious. i am probably being neurotic and paranoid.

yeah i sent mine last night and got an email at like 9am this morning that they got it and it would be added to my file yadda yadda yadda.

Yup. Got an email 1 hour after I sent the update.
 
Sent mine last night too. Still not receive a confirmation email. Hope GW was not dropping or accidentally deleted my email.

hmm. mine wasn't late and the interview still only lasted 15 minutes which is why I asked. Not sure if an interviewer shortens the time because they have already come up with a positive decision and see no point in dragging things out, or if they are unhappy with you and don't want to drag things out. Could go either way lol.

Also, what is the deal with asking uncomfortable/somewhat unethical questions? Are they allowed to ask you how you did on the mcat/what you got? Are they allowed to ask you what your ethnicity/heritage is? Wondering if these questions would come due to positive intrigue or negative profiling. Hard to tell.

Wow, no, I didn't get any of those questions, but feel like I've seen someone else complain about similar questions. I'm not sure if it was back in this thread or a different one. I hope all goes well. Good luck.
 
To those of you who received the letter of interest email the other day, approximately how long did you make your "detailed explanation of your specific interest?" I wasn't sure if they wanted a response close to the length of the secondary response or longer/shorter. Thanks!

Mine ended up being almost a page typed single space. I submitted it around 11 last night, and got a confirmation email this morning.
 
when i was on the wait list here last year I sent in a TON of updates/LOIs and was so confused and disappointed when I didn't get in after expressing so much interest.. I wasn't that involved with SDN at the time but now that I see how many people are sending in updates, yikes. I don't envy this school's admissions committee..
 
I don't think they're interested in the quantity of updates as they are the quality. How else can you explain ppl sending 3 LOIs and no II? I only sent one LOI and got an II. But it was thorough and even a little long (1.5 pgs 10 pt font).

Over 10 thousand applicants.

The e-mail they requested yesterday was my 3rd LOI. I am sure my letters are high quality. Meaningful updates, specific interest, and no fluff. Each was 1-2 pages single spaced. My lack of II is not due to poor letters; they just don't see anything particularly special in my application, more likely.

I'm not saying you wrote poor letters. You just didn't write the "right things" whatever those are
 
my update letter was maybe a paragraph and a half. Definitely less than 450 words. I can't imagine that an admissions committee that receives dozens of letters everyday would appreciate having to read more than a page worth of information. Im sure it can be said in less words. In fact, most parts of the application has word/character limits for that reason!!!

Replied to the email. Let's see how it goes. I am still puzzled why they asked the SAME QUESTION again. Also like many others I got very excited for a second seeing the title of the email but the excitement quickly died 😀

Or perhaps we did and that's why we're still hanging on. I am the definition of an average applicant for GW. I have average stats (30, 3.72), I'm white, from an affluent family, OOS, and have no significant hardships in my life. Your letter may have just been opened by the right person at the right time. Obviously every single one of us that sends in a LOI think its a very quality piece of work...or else why would we send it? I had multiple people edit each and every one of mine. I guarantee you my letters were effective, which is why I sent one once a month since being placed on re-review and am somehow miraculously still being considered.
 
Hi, I was wondering if after any of you emailed if the Assistant Director of Admissions replied back? Also does anyone know about movement from this new 'small pool'?

has anyone whose had an interview heard anything back recently? any acceptances?
 
This probably makes no difference, but for those who sent interests letters:
Did you reply to the email (because the subject was Reply Requested) or send a new email?

It said to send an e-mail to [email protected], so that's what I did---with the subject as "Requested Update" and the first sentence stating I was responding to their request to confirm my continued interest. It technically wasn't a reply to the original e-mail.
The assistant director of admissions replied and said it was added to my file.

Sent--hope to hear from them tomorrow morning if they got the email. This is my 2nd LOI to GWSMHS. I really want an interview here, I've already been interviewed at one of my other top choice schools (and waitlisted, an in-state school). It would be nice to get an interview and feel out the student body and see the differences between some of my top choices. Oh please please please!😍

I didn't get the e-mail everyone is talking about but I also sent in an update letter a few weeks ago. However, my status recently changed from "under re-review" back to "we have all the necessary materials to review your file". Guessing I'll be getting a rejection soon.

I had just sent in a LOI on the 14th and still got the email saying to send a letter....dunno if that's helpful news to anyone.... It was challenging to find new things to say for sure though I'm happy to still be considered... and the wait continues :scared:
 
Got my rejection a few days ago. 🙁 SO made the wait-list. Good luck everyone! 🙂

sent the update email friday and got the confirmation email this morning. i interviewed at GW back in 2010 and got waitlisted with no acceptance, i would love to have another shot there.
 
Interview Invite this morning! I have to say that I'm pretty shocked as I didn't get the previous e-mails everyone was talking about, and I had what I thought was an ominous status change about a week ago.
 
Yea II this morning as well for mid feb. Any ideas as to whether they accept people from each interview date or are some of these later interviews for waitlist spots?

Congrats to both of you! I think they still accept a couple off these last interviews but have no source to back that assumption up. Either way, good luck to you all!

Congrats!!! 👍 I suspected those of you who hadn't gotten the e-mail had already been marked for an upcoming II, especially since your status changed to the one people get before they're invited.
