Got that email a couple hours ago as well. September is almost here, best of luck in this cycle!! 🙂
 
I have not received that email yet. I suppose it takes time to get back to everyone, but it makes me nervous. I need as much advantage as i can get!

Current students, does this school grade P/F or A/B/C/F? Also, I received that e-mail about the new electronic secondary essay.

Thanks. I couldn't find it for sure on their website and thought the handbook indicated letter grading, but could be wrong. That's even better! I hope to get accepted here too! It's a wonderful school. Good luck! 👍

I don't see why not, especially if you are already verified by the time you add Howard. Remember, no one has received a secondary yet... so in a sense we will all be applying in Sept lol!

As Kuntash mentioned, no one has received the secondary yet. An email that was sent to verified applicants indicated that we will receive instructions on the secondary application during the first week of September. Interviews will began near the last week of September and continue through April.

My chances to Howard? GPA 3.42 MCAT 22O.

I did my undergrad at UT Southwestern and obtained a BS in prosthetic and orthotics. I did over 250 clinical hours in my undergrad. From 2010 until 2011 I did my prosthetic residency. I have volunteer hours and experiences in many leadership roles. I have a unique background which may makeup for the low MCAT. I worked full and part time in through all my time in undergrad.
 
Here is an objective way of determining your overall chances, assuming you are AA

This is for all schools but your chances would probably be higher at Howard due to the lower median score of accepted students (about a 25 mcat). If your background, interests and activities are a fit for Howard's mission, I believe you may have a good chance.

There's alot of things taking into consideration for medical schools. For Howard, keep in mind that out of nearly 7000 applications, they interview about 300 applicants. The class size is about 115 students. It is competitive!!

I may not know what is the chances, but I am greatly hoping and praying to get one of those 115 seats.

And I hope that we do get it. 🙂

I urge you to try and retake that mcat if you want to have a greater chance at admission at Howard. What other schools are you applying to?
 
I haven't received any email yet regarding the secondary application, should that cause for concern?
 
Meharry, and about 15 others all up and down the east coast. I also applied to some DO Schools. There is just not enough time in the day to study for the mcat again. I have my board certification coming up which is composed of three different examinations. I have to study for that! I think I'll take my chances.

I got it about two weeks ago. In the email, it mentioned that verified applicants will be getting the instructions to the secondary application during the first week of September.
The medical school will be having an online secondary application for the first time.

The email also indicated that interviews will start during the last week of September and that it will continue through April.

Expect an email coming soon from Howard. 🙂

I interviewed there last year and they told us they go by mcat first. With your score, it would be a while before anything happens
 
I still haven't received my secondary application from Howard. The first week of September is almost over haha.

Yeah, I know! So i emailed them. They are experiencing IT problems. So they have actually snail mailed the secondaries today. You can only pay by money order :/...

I don't understand why they don't just attach the doc to an email...then we could at least scan or fax it back. This would be so much faster. And that's how the other paper secondary I did worked. you could write down your credit card info or send a check, instead of sending a money order. Although if you write cardit card info down then I wouldn't recommend scanning, b/c the email would not be secure. So that school actually didn't allow scanning, probably due to this.

But I imagine you could just scan the rest of the app and mail the check or call to give the credit card info.

Not really. Just to quick explanation if you are considered undeserved and if you plan to work in an undeserved community after residency. No limit it just says brief.
 
Any idea of Howard accepts AP Credit or advanced courses for the biology requirements? I can't seem to find the information on their website! Thanks 🙂
 
I'm surprised that they don't accept FAP fee waivers. Isn't there mission to provide education for URM and those who don't normally get a chance at a medical education? Well, 75 bucks can be a lot for someone making nothing.

Sidenote: Has anyone had to wait until they've gotten paid to submit secondaries??? For me the rate limiting factor has not been how quickly I can write the essays for each secondary, but whether of not I have the money to pay for them.

Yep. You are definitely not the only one. Paying for these secondaries has been painful. Thankfully this is my last one!
 
Is anyone having difficulty filling out the course audit sheet? I try typing in the boxes with no success. Please Help me!!!
 
Can we use 300 level classes to fulfill the requirements? I am one of those people who did better in my 300-400 level classes than my lower level one.
 
Has anyone not received the secondary as well? I have been a verified applicant since July. This can be frustrating at times!

You may also write neatly in pen. I did that for some parts. 🙂

That's a good question. I would think that it asks for the introductory courses in the sciences. Maybe contact the office and see what they have to say.

I just want to make sure there is no miscommunication within the system. I haven't even received a email stating they received my verified application from AMCAS ( like I did for all my other schools).

I tried to call the other day and the person on the phone was kind of being short with me stating that all verified applicants get an application. But people also get an email stating that Howard has received their app from ACMAS. I have not received one single email from Howard.

That is why I am concerned. I'll try call them Monday again!
 
Can someone put up the exact essay/or short answer question by any chance?
i know someone said the prompt was just to quickly explain if ur considered underserved and if u plan to work in underserved after residency? is that 2 separate short answer questions ? and is there anything else?
