Hi everyone. I received my acceptance letter via email yesterday and this was my first time applying and I am non-traditional. So thrilled! I interviewed on Tuesday, April 23. My folder went to committee that Thursday. I received an out of committee email that Friday that also stated that my letter was awaiting a signature, wait for another email, and then to call. And then yesterday (April 30), I received my acceptance letter in an email. My process was fast most likely because I also will be doing the PARP summer program which starts in a couple of weeks. Who ele is doing PARP?

Ill be doing PARP with you as well! Haven't received much about the program just yet though.

Me either. I am mailing my paperwork today. I am excited! Do you happen to know where we will be living during the PARP program?

I interviewed April 9th. I am hoping to receive the "out of committee" email soon. Crossing my fingers and praying for good news from Howard. When should I call Ms. Walk if I still haven't heard anything yet?

I emailed Ms. Walk yesterday but havent heard anything from her. Going to call today.

Just got off the phone and Ms. Walk said that if you have interviewed but have not heard anything then your application has not come out of committee as yet. So let's try to relax and hope that we get through committee with an acceptance.

Yes you will and keep busy, that's what I did. Keep yourself occupied with other things.

Accepted! HALLELUJAH!! Thank you Jesus!!

Interviewed 4/2
Out of committee 4/26
Acceptance dated 5/1

Hi everyone,

I interviewed march 26th, called on April 29th to see if I could get an update and was told a decision had been made but the dean needed to sign off on my letter and that it would arrive by snail mail. Then, I called back a week later and spoke to ms walk who said she wasn't sure when they would get to my letter...

My interview wasnt bad but I feel it could have gone better. I was so nervous I felt
Stumped.

Can anyone provide any thoughts or insight? The thought of going through this process again makes me want to take a nap. I'm also retaking the mcat may 23rd.

Thanks!!!!!!

Congrats to everyone.
Anyone got some info on housing around campus? I plan on moving in july and im also looking for roommates.

Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back from Howard. I hope we hear some good news!

Maybe we'll hear something this week. Good luck everyone.

Hey everyone!!!

I finally got accepted!!!

Interviewed March 27
Out of Committee Email: April 12th
Accepted: May 1st!!

Stats: cGPA = 3.6, sGPA = 3.8, MCAT 27R. (Took all of my sciences prereqs at a community college so there's definite hope everyone!)

ps. I'm also Chinese American so for anyone who thinks Howard only accepts African Americans, here's a testament against that.

PSS. Current students, can you guys recommend where to live that is affordable and in the city? I need to start looking for a spot! Thanks everyone. Good Luck future and current applicants!!

Hello everyone,
I have been off the site for a while now (taking my final exams for first year) so I have been out of the loop for a while but I just wanted to say congratulations to all those that made it!!! I believe you would have a great time here at Howard! For those still waiting, keep up the optimism because they might still be filling the class up. AMCAS requires all students to drop all but one school come May 15th so there is still hope (fingers crossed). For those who have been accepted, have accepted the acceptance and are on Facebook, check out your class (class of 2017) page and meet (virtually) your future classmates. There should also be something on there to help you find housing and stuff like that before you get to DC. I want to end by saying have fun this summer, do something fun or travel or read or whatever you find exciting because you wouldn't get to do much of anything except study during your first year but once you're done, it's the best feeling in the world 😀 Well see y'all in July!!!!!!!

Congratulations to everyone who has received an acceptance so far!

Unfortunately, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I received an email today from Howard that informed me that the Admissions Committee had voted to offer me an acceptance, but due to the large number of students currently accepting the offer of admission to Howard, I was placed on the Super Alternate List.

Does anyone have any insight about the Super Alternate List? Likewise...is there any hope for me?

I was accepted today! Praise God, very thankful!

May someone please post the link to the C/O 2017 Facebook page? I can't find it on Facebook.

I was also notified today that I am on the Super Alternate list. As the email indicated, it just means that as people rescind their offer from Howard, they will pull people from the list to fill up spots as needed.

So there is still hope for us!

Congrats!!

Once you confirm and send your deposit in, you will receive an invitation to join the facebook group.

For those of you who received notifications today regarding placement onto the Super Alternate list, could you share when you interviewed and received the email that you were out of committee? I'm still waiting here to receive the out-of-committee email, but with the large number of reported acceptances to Howard, I don't know if I will have a chance.

I interviewed March 13th. I never recieved an out of committee email. I just recieved the email today saying that I am on the alternate list.
It's a long and unpredictable process! Don't lose hope..its not over until you get that rejection (God forbid!) so hang in there!!

Thanks for the encouragement. Best of luck to you!

if there are people placed on the alternate list b/c too many students are accepting the offer....then why do they still have people placed for a "maybe interview in MAY"? I have been hearing this since March from the admissions committee!
Probably they will be rejecting more students next week 😕🙁👎

I interviewed on March 26th and I received the out of committee letter on April the 11th. As StayPrayedUp22 has said, the admissions cycle is not yet over; there is still hope! If you don't hear anything by next Wednesday (May 15th), try calling to find out about your status.

Thanks so much for your response and for your encouragement! 🙂 Sorry if my previous post came off as a little neurotic or redundant. To be honest, I didn't know that such a list existed until I got the email. 😳

Mainly, I was wondering if anyone had any previous experience with the Super Alternate List, e.g. is it ranked, is there typically substantial movement from the list, is there more certainty of admission from this list as opposed to a "regular" alternate list, etc.

Good luck to everyone waiting! I pray that we all can hear good news!

Hello all! I was notified that I was on the alternate list today 🙁 What is the difference between that and the Super alternate list? I am losing hope everyday about this. Can someone give some insight?
Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know what the difference is. What exactly did they say to you in the email? I just know that they pull people from the super alternate list as seats open up in the class. But I have also heard (from previous years' SDN threads) of people that were on the "regular" alternate list also getting pulled in to the class. So you never know!
This whole process with Howard is so unpredictable!

My best guess is that the Super alternate list is a way for them to distinguish those who may be ranked higher on the alternate list from the rest of the interviewees. Similar to other schools notifying people that they are in the top 10% or 25% of the wait list. Essentially they give you a little hint that you rank high amongst those on the wait list without actually telling you your rank. Again.. this is just my guess... Best of luck! :luck:

Hello and thanks for your response!
I was told that I was chosen as an alternate and to let them know any changes, updates, etc. that have occurred since the interview. Ugh! This is so draining lol.

I hope so too. Good luck to those of us still waiting for good news.

Good luck to everyone.... 5/15 is less than 24 hours away. We should get news from Howard after tomorrow.

Hey,

Big time lurker here...I'm very happy to report that I have been accepted off of the super alternate list today! 🙂 So to all those out there who have been waiting, do not fret, there is still plenty of hope.

On another note, I would love for future members of my class to PM me! If our class is reflective of my interview cohort, it's going to be an amazing class. I cannot wait for July!

Howard University College of Medicine, Class of 2017! Woot!

Congrats SocialMed88!! Were you informed of being taken off of the Super Alternate List via email or telephone call?

PARP starts Monday. Has anyone heard anything about when we move into the housing that is provided for those doing PARP?

Withdrew from Howard today. I decided that I wasn't ready for medical school just yet. I hope a spot opens up for someone. Good luck to those waiting and to those that are matriculating in July.
