For those who were accepted, you mind sharing your stats? trying to get a reference frame... Thank you

Well I was accepted in the very first batch of acceptees. Average mcat 31 (but double digits in all sections), 3.88 cumulative, 3.97 science GPA...5 quarters as a TA...over a year of research...observerships and volunteering...etc...

The interview went really well...both my interviewers were really nice...not stressful at all...

hoping another batch of ii's go out soon...then again, maybe not with the holiday next week :-(

Did anyone else ask a student if they think MCW teaches to the boards? One girl I spoke with believed so, but I thought I'd see if anyone else knows anything about this.

^ nice lol

Class of 2017 Facebook page? :soexcited:

Did you create a facebook page for class of 2017? I think it is about time we had one so we can get to know each other before school starts.

Haha nope. I'm kind of facebook illiterate. I just thought it would be the cool thing to do since everyone else is doing it 😀

Mine were pretty average. 29 Mcat 3.8 gpa(both). Extra curriculars were just volunteering at local ER, food pantry, shadowing, and some more volunteer hours through honors organization at my university. They straight up told me my letters from my previous employer (of 5 years) and 3 science and 1 non science professor were phenomenal. I also did very poorly on my first MCAT and significantly improved so my interviewer said he really liked someone who knew how to fail at something and turn it all around if they want it. Shows drive, etc.

The Interview is just a social. Be honest and be on your best. Was even time to talk about my hobbies and enjoy the half hour. Don't worry about prepping just know the major questions and you'll find it easy to talk to them.

Thanks guys, this is one of my top choices and luckily I have similar stats so I am staying optimistic.

It seems like they've only given out a handful of II's since the beginning of October... I believe in you MCoW!

I got rejected at the beginning of October so that's one less person you have to compete with.👍

i remember during the tour we saw some students in a computer lab and my tour guide mentioned that all the exams are computerized to help you prepare for what boards will be like. that was all I remember though. have you checked out the flash drive they gave us? I haven't really, but there's probably more info on there

@jen: Post a face pic lol!

Do any current med students live in wilshire manor? If so, do you guys mind telling me how much your rent + utilities are for a 1br or 2br? Thanks

+1

For anyone interviewing next week and electing to stay with a student host, have you guys been contacted by them? I said I was interested in a student host when I accepted the interview invite but haven't heard anything since... :/

Oh yeah, I devoured that info later in the weekend, but I don't think it said anything about this.(?)

Would you mind clarifying what you mean by this question? What's the concern that you have?

It's more of an interest than a concern, since it seems to be more of a benefit than an expectation. From my research, some schools actually make the connection between pre-clinical courses and students' interest in doing well on the Step 1 exam, so they make some effort to focus courses on what's important on the test. The other side of the coin would be an endless litany of PhD's waxing soporific on the minutiae of their fields, expecting you to teach yourself anything of value.

Not sure how to answer this question then.. In all of our classes thus far in the Discovery Curriculum the content has covered the vast majority of the material listed in "First Aid for the USMLE Step 1". And interspersed with that are in depth details for specific areas that will be relevant in practicing medicine (for example: Cytochrome P450 functionality, variations and impacts).

Bitchin.

The responses are much appreciated.

Happy Thanksgiving, gang.

I would absolutely agree with this.

They match you with the student host at the thurs night social. So you will find out the night of haha. I ended up just staying at the holiday inn though and took a free shuttle to mcw. Loved the school and absolutely appreciated their one week turn around time. So refreshing in this long one year waiting game. GL!

Has anyone got recent II . if yes when were you complete

If I do decide to go to med school, I would love to go to MCW since I would love to stay in Wisconsin. Any people who go to MCW attend any of the UW schools like milwaukee, oshkosh, la crosse, etc? Also what stats are needed to get into MCW? Thanks!

i went to madison and am fairly confident I'll be going here next year. as an in-stater you have a slight advantage as far as stats go, but certainly no guarantee of anything. my stats are in mdapps for reference

Yup, a bunch of my classmates have come from the various UW schools.

Hey acceptees,

I created a fb group "MCW Class of 2017" 🙂

II today as well! 🙂 Excited to see MCW in January!

II as well today, complete some time in July. Will be giving up my interview due to other acceptances.

Just got the II e-mail! Small pooled in mid-August. Really excited and nervous considering it's my first.

congrats!

Did your status page change to say you got the II, or it was just email?

Thanks!

It was just an e-mail as far as I know. I actually haven't been able to load the status web site for some reason so I'm not sure what it says. However, I have heard that statuses don't change for small-pooling/interview invites and that e-mails are the only notification for both.

Thanks so much to those who withdrew from their spots.

Small pooled 9/3, it seems like they keep going over those who were pooled in august.

I really really love mcw and want to interview here so badly. Would it be really bad for me to send a loi?

Small pooled on 8/29 here and I've been hoping for an II in every batch they send out! Doesn't look like today is my day 🙁 I'd love to interview at MCW!

It's getting chilly in the small pool and my fingers are getting all pruney... Hopefully an ii will come my way soon!

II today!

Complete mid-August
Small pool: 8/24

The basics: OOS, 29S, 3.6 cpa and sgpa, not URM

Planning on attending the interview, and this is my 6th interview so far (I only applied to MD programs).
