Does A&M have "syllabi" with basically a condensed version of everything you need to know like some of the other texas medical schools?

Or is the learning done from textbooks?
 
Sorry for all the questions folks. Have there been OOS **acceptances** yet? I know people posted about OOS interviews, but couldn't tell if anyone had been accepted from the old posts.

Just trying to get an idea if the OOS class is full, or if the "slots" referred to interviews.

I just asked a current student who informed me that students get handouts/lectures in the first semester and powerpoint slides in the second semester. They informed me that everything needed would be given and that extra reading from the textbook is mostly used for reference. They also said that we would be provided some of the books in electronic form.

yes! We're given everything we need to know for the exams.. no extra reading/research needed unless you're still unsure about something- so books are just for reference. That and you can always see a lecturer or there's peer tutoring too- if you're lost but to be honest everything's pretty straight forward and slowly build upon...they don't drop you in it or anything 😛
 
Anyone else getting Army/Navy scholarship e-mails?
 
I got one from the recruiter after I interviewed last week.
 
I also got one, but I was getting them even before I interviewed here.
 
Me neither. If anyone is still thinking about the scholarships, the recruiter from the Navy said all of the HSCP scholarships are already gone and they still have some HPSP. Just in case folks are still thinking about applying.

My status changed on BAMF

ACCEPTED BABY.
 
I am in state.

It is odd, but last year people did get acceptance packets on the 31st before the match results were out.

Also I looked through last years thread and those that had their status as "interviewed' the week leading up to match day got matched to A&M. Those that had "under review" did not... my status was "interviewed" all this week and this morning. Must have changed in the past hour.

Is your status still accepted or did it switch back to interviewed? Some friends of mine had that happen to them today.

Mine went from "Accepted" to "Under Review"...maybe this is good news?
 
Would be a cruel joke to see accepted and than that not be the real case lol

We are certainly neurotic, but yes it looks like you probably got your #1. Someone previously said that last year anyone's who switched to "under review" did not match here. Congratulations!
 
Oh man, that is so intense 🙁 I would be freaking out as bad as I did prematch day lol. Everyones wishes will come true :beer:

The same thing happened to me today; my status switched from "interviewed" to "accepted" and back to "interviewed." I emailed the admissions about it and this was their reply: "It was a glitch and your status of Interviewed is correct. You will be able to log on to BAMF on Feb. 1st for an official status change. On Feb. 1st, if you have a status change, you will receive an email about your status change. Hang in there for a few more days."

Unfortunately, it looks like those of us who had the emotional roller coaster today still don't know anything. The speculation about the statuses from last year and what they led to sounds nice but I haven't heard anything official about that. Waiting til Friday morning is going to suck even worse now after that tease...

I wouldn't count on it. I highly doubt you can glean anything from your BAMF status.

I find that being a glass half empty person in these cases is honestly for the best. I hope I'm proven wrong and you get into your #1 choice, but I wouldn't count on it.

:laugh: I had one of my interviewer at UT Houston last year tell me that I was "crazy" to think about a 2 year MPH as a backup plan because "with [my] numbers and resume I'll definitely get in" (and he hoped it would be at Houston).

Lo and behold, here I am on my second attempt at medical school :laugh:

I had one of my interviewers at UT Southwestern (this year) say something comparable, as did my first interviewer at A&M. I don't put any stock into those kinds of comments anymore, though :laugh:. It just sounds like a cruel joke to me now. I was actually on the verge of crying when my interviewer at UTSW mentioned it (my eyes definitely watered up...a lot. I can only hope that he didn't notice.). Fortunately, this was right near the end of the interview and I was able to pull myself together/wash my face in the restroom shortly after. It's just really difficult having your emotions toyed with in this way.

Thanks, but yeah I'm of course not making any true assumptions here. Nor would I really recommend anyone doing so so early.

I feel like I'm in the rocket, on the launching pad, all buckled in with the countdown started... but yet with the distinct possibility that the engines snuff out and I have to get out of the rocket and wait a year to even get back to this point.

Countdown: 20 hours, 44 minutes, 18 second (17, 16...)
 
A friend of mine who is a 2nd year at tcom told me that match came out at midnight for his class and around 2 am for another class so I'm here to relay that info to you so I'm not the only one checking before 8 am

So if you match to TCOM you know at midnight? Thats kinda nice, get to sleep well knowing you are gonna be a doc.

How great would it be if the TMDSAS match was more like the residency match where you know you've matched somewhere and you simply find out where on match day :laugh: Man I envy to-be residents so much right now. 95%+ match success rate for residency (for U.S. medical scholols) compared to more like 50% for simply trying to get into medical school.

I'll be checking anyway regardless (even though I didn't interview at TCOM).

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on this subject matter so to be blunt, I have no idea. My specific friend didn't get in anywhere besides tcom so the "match to tcom" probably indicates that Match itself came out at midnight and not just one specific school's match. Also, just the fact that these schools have to communicate with each other would suggest that "Match" comes out as one thing at one time but that is just my thinking. I pre-matched to tcom but have 3 other schools waiting to hear from including the pseudo-A&M "pre" match from yesterday so I will also be checking at midnight, good luck to you!!

A&M sent out there emails at 8 am and if I remember correctly TMDSAS wasn't up till 8am as well. Last year I frantically stayed up till midnight and saw threads where TCOM students posted saying they were accepted via email and freaked out! So I was up again at 2 and then 8... really I didn't sleep incase I missed anything! WIsh someone had said for sure it wouldn't be till 8 🙂

And yeah, sadly, BAMF mind F'ed me too... sorry it seems to be a right of passage or something lol

On a happier note: the count down has begun guys! Tomorrow you'll get to find out if you're going to be a doctor! No matter where... GOOD LUCK :luck:
 
10.5 hours to go!

So how is everyone spending their pre-"match day" night? I'm going to spend the remainder of my night watching the lion king. It's one of my go-to "feel good" movies and a great stress reliever :laugh:

When did you interview?

My status did exactly the opposite before I even interviewed. It went from "under review" to me receiving an interview invite, after which point it changed to "interviewed."

Interviewed in January. Went from under review --> interviewed --> under review.
 
For those who didn't prematch here, are your statuses "under review" now?
 
I did not pre-match here and my status still says "interviewed." I interviewed in December.
 
Thanks! I know I should just be patient for 8 more hours, but it seems like I'm just feeling more anxious and neurotic as the time gets closer...
