My status also went from 'interviewed' to 'under review' but I got an email from UTMB so I'm not sure if that helps with deciphering anything

First of all, congrats! Thank you for replying. I ranked A&M #3 so hopefully that means I matched somewhere higher!

Is it common to ask for a tour of the college station campus after match day? I interviewed in temple but im interested in staying at college station.

Screw it, I'm getting a 40 on the MCAT and coming back stronger next time around. More shadowing. More research involvement. Re-vamped essays. Increased uGPA. If that's what it takes, I'll get it done.

Verbal's no guarantee but the science portions are very much amenable to mastery.

On a lighter note, congratulations to everyone who matched! It must feel amazing . The only saving grace for me is that I'm very much used to abject failure so I'm actually not balling my eyes out this time around. I just feel like I've had a fire lit underneath me.

Same 🙁
What do we do now? I loved tamu and I'm just devastated.

I know  I had a great vibe from A&M. I thought I had a great rapport with one of my interviewers.

My only other hope is UTSW which I know for a fact does not use the match and tends to have a lot of waitlist movement. Maybe there is a glimmer of hope there, but I'm not holding my breath. If I'm not competitive for A&M (which clearly I'm not given that I have no pre-matches and I was not matched), then there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that I'm competitive for UTSW.

I have a problem (rejection), and there's either a feasible solution or there isn't. If there isn't a feasible solution and it's simply impossible for me to get into medical school given the ultra-competitive nature of the applicant pool, then there's no point in me crying or sulking.

If there is a feasible solution for me to make my application significantly stronger and competitive for medical school, then I'll find it and work towards it. I think that's the mentality we need to have right now.

Looks like my status change on wednesday was real. Accepted finally. I'm a reapplicant so this is a long time coming for me.

Congratulations on your acceptances and welcome to the family!!

For those who didn't match, contact Filo. He is amazing and will guide you in the right direction now and for later applications. Be Strong! This is a marathon not a sprint...you can do it, it just might take a little longer than you thought/hoped!

Did A&M send out any emails yet today, acceptance, alternate, or otherwise?

👍 crafting my e-mail as we speak.

@R1MD: I did not receive an e-mail of "rejection" or "waitlist" or anything. I didn't receive anything (just to give you a data point of how non-acceptances are handled here). My BAMF status currently says "interviewed"

Congrats everyone, welcome to the class!

Really dumb question, but what can we say? Ask for advice on what to do now?

Personally, I'd give it a week before you contact him or anyone else at a different school. Keep your ear to the ground for re-applicant workshops. But when you do contact him, I'd probably say how this application cycle didn't go as well as you had hoped, but you're still motivated and would like his help in figuring out what you can do to improve yourself for reapplying. I probably sound like an old man when I say this, but often times this generation expects someone else to do all the work for them. So make sure you show that you're not a typical millennial and try and identify what you believe your shortcomings were and offer solutions to those and get his opinion on it and ask if he has any other suggestions. Also, never sound like you felt you were entitled to anything, or get your mom to e-mail anyone for you (other common mistakes of this generation - the millennials). 60 minutes had a good video on millennials a few years back, might prove helpful looking it up, figure out how to set yourself apart from others.

I'm going to hold off for a day or two until the invitations to the alternate list come out. I would expect that we should hear if we made the waitlist sometime today or early next week. If we didn't make the waitlist, then there is no chance this year, but I'm sure asking about application pointers would be great for reapplying.

I don't think the timing matters but yes I totally agree. Approach it with a determined attitude... things you've been working on during the application cycle... things you want to work on and show genuine interest in A&M and not just med school.

Filo has said that as well as the work shops later on that he will sit down one and one and talk about ways applicants can improve their chances, so that may be an option for you too.

In general I believe that contact with the school will improve your chances.... getting your face known as well as your passion for medicine and A&M (so long as you don't over do it and look a little desperate) will be positive.

Good Luck:luck:

Did anyone receive any OOS acceptances/rejections/waitlist on Friday? Thanks!

Nope OOS here and nothing Friday. I talked to admissions last week and they said that the OOS acceptances had all been sent out already and they would be emailing folks who would be invited to join the alternate list. I'm not sure if that happened Friday but I don't think so.

Congratulations to everyone who matched!! I can't wait to be classmates!!!

For anyone that didn't, this was my third go around. Re-vamp and re-apply!

Best of luck to all!

So the whole schools can't extend offers after June 1st deal...If you were accepted off a waitlist somewhere and you accept the offer...after June 1 you're just sort of out of luck even if a school you ranked higher might decide to accept you from the WL?

Pretty much. If you accept somewhere OOS but not in-state, you could still be pulled off the waitlist. However, for in-state, you pretty much get pulled off the waitlist at other schools if you have an acceptance at another school in Texas - including Baylor.

Does anyone know how big the alternate list is at A&M? Or is it pretty much anyone who interviewed is put on it if they want to be?

I don't believe everyone is put on the waitlist. Couldn't tell you how big it is though. But I can tell you that I know two people that got off it last year.

On a side note, are you a firefighter? And are you wearing five fingers in your pic?

Thanks BigTruck.

Firefighter, yes (vol FF/EMT in different places for ~17 years). Though the avatar isnt me. I did Crossfit for a while (still do occasionally) and just thought it was a cool mix of the two. Never liked the Five Fingers though...

Congrats on your acceptance. Hoping to join you (and the other Aggies) in the fall! Good luck everyone.

Also received the alternate list email 👍

I'll be mailing in my confirmation that I want to be on the alternate list in a couple of days.

From what I understand, confirmation is by mail only (via the attached form) and not by e-mail, correct?

Yeah I think that's correct according to the form.

Does anyone know how common is it for people to get their first or second choice?

To be honest, I am pretty confused about how to rank these tracks.

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Don't over think it by ranking it strategically, thinking you're unlikely to get your first choice, so you'll rank it another way to get your second choice. I think, just by the way the classes are organized, at least half the class will get their first choice. So it would be in your best interest to rank your real top choice as #1.

I don't want to get anyone's hopes up but movement off the waitlist does happen... I know a good 15 people in CS who got accepted through the summer.. including one who got accepted 2 weeks before class started. Sadly I don't know how big the list was/is - hence the don't want to get your hopes up part. Sorry it's still a waiting game.... my fingers and toes are crossed for ya!

Thanks for that info Yippie!

I assume you are talking about ranking the six campus tracks that we got the email about the other day. I think I recall from the interview that something like 65% of people get their first choice. I am not sure how anyone else is ranking things, but here is my thought process:

1. I asked some MS1s and they said that most of the first year courses were live at the Bryan/College Station campus. More of the MS2 classes were live from Temple. All lecture type classes are video streamed from one campus to the other.

2. It looks like it is a bit cheaper to live in Temple than Bryan/CS.

3. Bryan/CS is the bigger campus by far, and has the better sports and undergrad type lifestyle if you are into that. Conversely, Temple has the smaller class size (80 vs 120) for the labs.

4. The MS3/MS4 tracks in Dallas or Austin are apparently easier to get if you pick Bryan/CS for your first two years (since only 35 stay in Bryan/CS for MS3 and 4). I heard most of the Temple students stay in Temple all 4 years.

I don't think you can go wrong with any choice, really. The classes will mostly be the same. And they seem to encourage trying electives at different campuses in later years. So you could, in theory, try out several campuses regardless of your campus track.

Thanks for your response.

Regarding your second point, I went to Temple for the interview and this MS1 told me that he lived in an apartment for $350/month with some roommates, which is an really cheap price. I also remember going to a nice restaurant and getting a soup + sub + dessert for less than $15.

Yeah I really enjoyed the quaintness of Temple, and I think the continuity factor is a huge bonus (the same people you get involved with during MS1/MS2 at S&W are going to be residency program directors or program affiliates come MS4, so it's nice to be able to build and establish a strong rapport early on).

If I'm lucky enough to matriculate here, I'd give 4 years at Temple serious consideration.

My status also just recently changed from "interviewed' to 'under review'
anyone else?

^ ditto. Mine changed as well.

Have you guys sent in your alternate list confirmation sheets already?

Yes but I think it changed before it got there.

First of all, I would like to congratulate all those who will be attending A&M beginning in July! I am excited to hopefully meet many of you.
Now, to my question. I had a concern that I wanted bring up. I know this may sound silly, but I am paranoid and could use some advice.
After learning that I matched, I wanted to visit one of the campuses in order to help me make my campus ranking decisions as I had already visited the other. My plan was to just walk around the campus to get a feel for it, not really expecting to meet or run into administration or faculty. However, upon my visit, I did indeed run into a member of the staff and ended up asking a few questions.
Here is my dilemma: I was wearing my nostril stud piercing (and I am a male). I had forgotten to take it out. However, I have been planning to permanently stop wearing it when classes begin. The individual seemed caught off guard by my visit, and I am beginning to think it was my piercing. Basically, and I know this will come out sounding silly, I am getting paranoid my acceptance may be rescinded for this some how. Should I send an email apologizing for my unprofessional attire, or should I just leave it alone?
