The final pool email also states ,"These decisions are final and will be sent by US mail. We will not give out decisions over the phone or by email."

I didn't get final pooled, accepted on Jan 29th which was the last day they gave rolling admissions decisions. They e-mail acceptances on Tuesdays and in the e-mail tell you to expect USmail with further instructions. Hope that helps!

so was he a troll?

It could have been an acceptance before the final pool. Not everyone got final pool notifications so the rest of people who don't would have gotten rejections recently.

Edit: Said rejection... meant acceptance.

There is no deposit required. Just email and say you accept their offer of admission. 🙂

How long did it take you guys to receive your acceptance info after the e-mail? My acceptance just came in this past Tuesday but I guess I'm a little impatient waiting for the formal letter and instructions on how to accept my spot 😀

I live on the east coast and it took about a week. Relax you are in 🙂 congrats!

Does anyone know when the ICON course is supposed to open up? I know they said sometime in Feb

Sitting in Hardin Library next to Carver studying for my Cell Bio exam tomorrow and despite the fact that the medical students are all slightly haggard looking I'm still extremely envious of them 🙁 I wish Carver would hurry up with their final pool decisions this waiting is killing me!

For those of us swimmin in the final pool, are you going to write a letter of interest/intent? I already submitted my new grades for the fall semester, but I saw the application website says they won't accept any more additional information after January 29. Did I miss the boat for sending in a letter?

I'm not 100%, but I think you missed the boat.

You can still send a letter, you just can't update your grades and activities and such

Waiting til March 19th is torture. Third time applying, second time in the final pool.....uggghhhhhghgh.

Are you IS? The first time you didn't get final pooled? I'm just curious because I was wondering if everyone that interviews (from IS) gets final pooled.

Is March 19th when the letter came out for you last time? Would be really nice to hear from someone who knows for a fact what happened last year. Fingers crossed for us all in the mean time! Anyone have a ritual down for opening their letters when they come?

Based on last years thread, it looks like final pool decisions came out on March 7 last year. So hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer!

Thanks for looking into that vbgal41!

Also I know this really isn't the place, but for anyone who get accepted from the final pool and plans on doing the summer courses before the first semester starts I have a place close to campus I'll be subleasing. Just shoot me an email if you are interested.

I am in-state...I was rejected pre-final pool the first time, and rejected from the final pool the second time. But I was a very young and not exceptional applicant the first time around. Now I have an MPH and a few years of medical experience in, both volunteer and paid. I'm hoping this is the year!

I do think it was before March 19th....March 19th is their last day to look at things if they need it. March 7th sounds right for last year. Hopefully it is sooner than that....but it should definitely be in the next few weeks!

Your situation is similar to mine. Good luck!! I do hope it's sooner because I'm going to be out of town for a few days in the middle of March and it's going to kill me if I know that letter is at home waiting for me when I get back!

Alright guys I've done some digging and I'll share with you what I have found from digging through the forums of years past for CCOM. Two years ago an email was sent saying something to the effect of "final decisions have been mailed" no decision was included in this and it was simply letting you know the letter is in the mail. Last year there was no email so this may have been phased out.

As we were told during our interviews the decisions will be coming in the mail regardless if its a rejection, waitlist, or acceptance (crossing my fingers that it is the later). There is generally a high volume of movement on the IS waitlist. I'm not sure if it is true or not but there was a post on last years forum that the list was once exhausted for IS.

If you receive a waitlist there should be a ranking accompanying that letter as to where you are on the list. After you receive this you should give it about two or three days I would guess to let people drop off the list and then the list will be updated with a hopefully large change. You can call at anytime as many times as you want to find out how much movement is happening on the list.

That would be all I have for you guys for now!

Hurry up and wait. Story of my life.

Does anyone know if we will get a small vs large envelope if we are rejected vs acccepted/waitlisted?

Does it definitely come via snail mail?

Yes. Last year they sent acceptances via email, but during the interviews they specifically stated that the decisions will come via snail mail this year. Below is posted verbatim which was in the email notifying us we made it into the final pool.

I am writing to inform you that the Admissions Committee has reviewed your application and held your file to be reviewed again in the Final Pool. This review begins in late January and takes approximately 5 weeks to complete (around mid-March but no later than March 19, 2013). These decisions are final and will be sent by US mail. We will not give out decisions over the phone or by e-mail.

Also just so no-one is blind sighted. I would recommend you start cringing when you check the mail box starting next week. There has been talk that the decisions may come out as early as next week and that in the past they have not waited until the last day (March 19th). I don't know about you but I have bottle of liquid courage in the freezer specifically waiting for that letter.

Thanks for the heads up! 🙂 I was looking through previous forums, and March 7th-8th looked like popular dates to hear from Iowa.

Also-- I saw your other post about the e-mail situation. In previous years, they have sent out 2 e-mails-- the first one seemed to say that a letter was in the mail, then the next one was just sent out to accepted students to say they were accepted. However, it also looked like in one year only acceptance e-mails were sent out, and the first e-mail wasn't. Are they for sure not communicating with us via e-mail at all anymore? I was thinking maybe they phased out the e-mailing altogether, but I'm confused, because it seems like it's been different every year! 😕

I believe the envelope is large for out and out accepted students.

After perusing the past years threads (again...), I noticed last year that even though the final pool e-mail said acceptances would not be sent out via phone or e-mail, accepted students did get an acceptance e-mail the day after the generic "a letter is in the mail" e-mail...

I am so confused, and I don't think I will ever figure this out, haha. Only a couple weeks (or less!) left!

So was it already established that OOSers in the final pool are at a pretty big disadvantage? I remember them mentioning 1/3 of OOS interviewees get accepted, so I wonder if this is the same from the final pool. Or did most OOSers get accepted in the rolling portion?

Disclaimer - I dunno if my memory is totally accurate. It's really easy to confuse schools at this point. Someone please correct me if I am misinformed!

I believe they said they interview ~400 OOS, accept ~120 and waitlist ~100. I don't know how many of those acceptances have already been given out, though (those specifics weren't mentioned).

I faintly remember them saying ~80 are accepted during the rolling admissions phase.

This sounds right... during my interview in late January, they said they still have 40 OOS acceptances to give from the final pool. Not sure how many are in the final pool though.

For IS students-- if I remember correctly, they interview ~300, accept ~150, and waitlist ~50. But I'm assuming they accepted ~50 already, and probably rejected some, too. So the numbers in the final pool may be roughly 200, from which they accept likely around 100 and waitlist 50. My numbers are probably wrong, but I'm thinking it's somewhere around there.

Well that's pretty depressing then. Thanks for the info though!

This sounds about right, ballpark-wise. Historically, they have chosen the majority of the IS class from the final pool.

That makes sense! I'm guessing it's the same this year, because I haven't heard about many rolling IS acceptances. Though I guess SDN is a small sample size... but still 🙂

I called the admissions office this afternoon, and was told the admissions committee has one more meeting, then letters will be printed, stamped, and sent out. It seemed to me like they would be meeting later on this week, and then letters will be mailed sometime early next week. But she did say that you could receive the letter as late as March 18th, but either way that means letters are going out next week. eek. Good luck everyone!

From what I hear, they send out one generic email saying that the decisions are final and have been mailed out, with those that are accepted receiving a second email, usually later in the same day.

Could be! I've heard different things. One year, they sent out nothing via e-mail, the next people just got the generic e-mail, the next they sent both generic/acceptance e-mails (though, typically people received the acceptance e-mail the next day)... it seems like it's different every year! I'm just going to be checking SDN obsessively, haha 🙂

So we won't really hear anything until the beginning of next week? Ha I'm having a minor heart attack already :scared:

I hear ya... I think that might even be the earliest we could hear :/

I already had 2 dreams last night about getting the letter! This is just like the MCAT release of scores but a thousand times worse. First dream consisted of getting an acceptance letter only to wake up to remember that decisions had not come out yet and after that a dream that I was number 6 on the wait list only to once again wake up to figure out letters have not come. I just wish we all could know already 🙁

Oh and to the IS ppl it might be a bit encouraging to know that one of my friends will be giving up her spot to Carver to one of us final pool people. She got accepted at a different school and hasn't dropped the spot yet from Carver yet but she will be. I imagine she isn't the only one by a long shot so there will be movement on the wait list for IS.

That is good news! Does anyone else know IS people giving up their seat at Carver?

So for all the random ifs and maybes that circulate about the the final pool it is hard to know what is and what is not. I bumped into one of the professors that wrote my letter of recommendation last week and completely forgot that he was on the admissions board for CCOM for years. At the time I just thought he was being nice when he said that if I made it into the final pool that I'm "so damn close to getting in", but then i remembered that he is very straight forward and he was on the admissions board. So that is good news to us all that if we made it this far we are so freaking close to getting in. They do reject a lot of people before this point and if you got this far then you have a very real chance of getting in. Hope this helps everyone keep up hope until the letters come.
