Package might be an overstatement haha. All I got was a letter and a paper to sign. It was set to arrive only a few days after I found out, but got lost in the mail and I didn't get it for a couple weeks (called and got it virtually) by the time it actually arrived in the mail the deadline to accept my position had passed so I'm glad I called them haha. You should probably expect 5-10 business days considering there are likely more to send for Reg. Adm. than was for ED.

What is normal deadline for acceptance? How much deposit do they require? Is this deposit refundable? What if you give deposit to multiple schools if you're undecided about school and need more time to evaluate?

Thanks,

Thanks,

1) Response has to be postmarked within 2 weeks of them sending your acceptance letter
2) No deposit
3) N/A
4) You can hold multiple acceptances by sending deposits to schools that require it. By May 15, 2013, you have to notify which schools you won't be attending that you've decided not to matriculate there and if the deposit is refundable, they will refund your $

congrats everyone! does anyone know when second look weekend will be?

It looks like there was a reception for the incoming class this year on Saturday, January 7th. Would that be the same thing as a second look weekend?

Where'd you find this information?

After looking at the UK match list, I noticed that the match in terms of specialty was strong. However, I realized that 90% of the medical students remained in the south for residency, many of them stayed at UK. While this is expected, schools with a similar reputation as UK, eg. Penn state, usually have a much higher proportion of students going far away for residency. I was wondering that if I attended UK medical school, would I be able to easily match to a hospital on the west coast or northeast, or would I be at a disadvantage compared to a student from Penn State with the same profile as me, ie. evaluations, step 1 score, research, etc.?

I'm sure that one of the contributing factors is that UK students wants to stay close to their SO, home, and roots. But I just wanted to know that IF I wanted to go far away for residency, I would still be able to without too much trouble. Thanks.

I've been thinking about this too since I am from CA and was accepted last week. I did, however, talk to a professor at a UC school who said that he knew many people that went to UKY med school and stayed there for residency because they loved the school so much. I personally don't think that you will be at any disadvantage for residency match coming from UKY. I also think that it says a lot that people that go there like the school enough to want to stay there. Just my two cents...

Any OOSers get "put on hold?" Is this the same thing as getting wait listed? Does anyone know when the committee will meet to review the applicants put on hold?

Thanks for your reply. I really wouldn't mind living in or near Kentucky, but I just wanted to know that in the scenario that my family needed to leave the South, I wouldn't be severely disadvantaged. But of course, UK medical school has an excellent reputation, so I too think that we will not be disadvantaged for residency programs in the Northeast and West.

Hey, I'm OOS, and I'm on pre-interview hold here. Are you on post-interview hold?
It's not the same as getting wait listed. I think they'll start populating the wait list later on during the year, in which case, you'll be up for review for a place on the wait list, that's assuming they have not acted on your file before then.

I actually asked my interviewer about that (involved in student affairs) he was fairly adamant about the ability to do residency anywhere. He told me about some recent students matching on the west coast and to some top programs in their field. It's all about how you perform in medical school and how well you do on your boards. If you're a top competitor it shouldn't be a huge issue.

For those of you who have already interviewed at UK, what did you think of the school and the interview process there? I have an interview there coming up in a couple of weeks and am so excited. I just wanted to hear what impression of the school everyone has had so far.

Our interviewers are meeting today with admissions to decide our fate correct? I believe they asked us to wait for them to call us tomorrow. I'm wearing my blue sweater today so...... Let me know if anyone hears anything!

I interviewed in early September and had an amazing experience. It was my first interview and I was a bit apprehensive as far as what to expect but the interviewers and admin staff made me feel right at home.

The interviews were pretty laid back. Just make sure you know your app inside and out because the interviewers come prepared with questions. Other than that, it's a comfortable atmosphere. Overall, I had a positive interview experience and liked the small town feel of the campus.

Best of luck!

For those already accepted: did you receive any sort of confirmation from UK that your acceptance letter was received? I sent mine with delivery confirmation, but the post office is now suggesting the letter may have gotten lost traveling the whole 30 miles to Lexington! Kind of wishing I just drove the letter up there...

Accepted :-D
OOS, cGPA: 3.17, sGPA: 3.31, MCAT: 38Q
Failed out of school in 2001
Dialysis technician for 4 years, currently a healthcare compliance analyst
How's that for non-traditional?

Good luck, Grayce! I don't know who you were at the interview last week, but I hope we meet late next summer.

I called the UK admin to double check if they received my letter of intent and they confirmed. They also told me about a "second look" of the campus on jan 5.

Interviewed on 10/27
Accepted!
OOS!

for UK, we have to wait for the snail mail to get to our home address before we can respond to the offer? 😀

Congrats to the newly accepted!!!!! Make sure to join the class of 2017 FB group! Also in terms of the letter of intent, I sent mine in over a week ago and they still haven't gotten it, but mine is coming from Toronto, so probably a lot more distance to travel, either they said not to worry if it gets late or lost I can just send in a scanned version

I missed the call from my one of my interviewers! His message did not say one way or another but his tone on my voicemail sounded a lot like the call I got at summer camp as a kid from my dad to tell me my puppy had been run over. Lol. He asked me to call back around six. Oh well, it was a good experience!

Haven't been following the thread all that closely since my acceptance, but AFAIK they don't do calls for rejections....don't want to get your hopes up, but that's my understanding.

Woot! Another non-trad. I didn't fail out in 2003, but I did miss about half my classes while "attending" undergrad the first time through. At least I know I won't be the old man in class now! Congrats!

Wow, that's really amazing going from failing out of school to a 38! Congrats!

Thanks, but the failing grades really were way before I fell in love with patient care and got on the med school track. It just makes me laugh when I see people on SDN freaking out about their 3.6 GPAs, so I like to bring up my path for perspective. My MCAT obviously doesn't hurt, but from my interviews I gather that it doesn't really help much either. It's all about why you want to do it and how much you want to do it, in my opinion.

You were right! They accepted me! Out of state with a 3.6 and a 28 MCAT but strong ties to KY and to UK. I'm honestly shocked but couldn't be more ecstatic:laugh: I was crying on the phone. Honestly, I spent my senior year of high school living in a homeless shelter and now UK has given me the opportunity of a lifetime. I'm not even a spiritual person but I have somehow been blessed. Now I just have to work hard enough to make sure they don't regret it! Haha

I feel your pain. My letter was lost coming from UK to my apartment (7 miles away) and I didn't get it until after the deadline they had established. Fortunately I called them and asked if I was going to get anything so they sent it to me via email and I drove it to the university. Thanks USPS.

Yeah, just a heads up to everyone else: if you don't receive anything by mail within two weeks of your acceptance call or if you don't receive confirmation that they received the letter you mailed back, Robin Rankin and Kim Scott in admissions are both very helpful and responded promptly to my panicked emails 👍.

Reapp accepted! To all you reapps and waitlistees, keep hope. Everything happens for a reason and when the time is right, acceptance will come. This was my reapplication year and I was accepted when news was released on Oct 16th, here's my info to share:

3.5 GPA from small liberal arts college with double major in Exercise Science/Spanish, Bio minor. Science GPA was 3.3 and I had misbehavior marks from my freshman year (alcohol). GPA was overall 3.3ish until my senior year when I realized I needed to get my ***** in gear if wanted med school in the future. Sr year all As.

VERY strong LOR from prehealth committee..this was my only letter. I was fortunate to have close relationships with my professors and call them my friends.

3.8 GPA from grad school (Masters) in biochemistry, did some lab work and had my name on an abstract

30R MCAT (high score on verbal) plastic surgery shadowing, ortho shadowing, psychiatry clinic shadowing, primary clinic shadowing, ER volunteering, primary clinic volunteering, many nonmedical volunteer events

I felt like my interviews went exceptionally well, I speak quite easily with all sorts of people, even when my nerves are rattled.

I was bummed when I was waitlisted last year but the wait was worth it when I got in on the first day this cycle. Just so happens that some events happened in my life that made it even better that I was not accepted last year. So even if you're bummed that acceptance didn't come in the past or hasn't come yet, don't worry. Keep working your butt off and show them you want it, they notice persistence and motivation, and you'll earn it. I was actually called and congratulated by an interviewer from this year and one of my interviewers from last year who commented that my reapplication made all the difference and they really enjoyed seeing the drive I had to pursue med school. Best of luck to everyone! It'll eventually turn out in your favor as long as you really want it and work hard at it, I promise.

Anyone with a early or mid-January interview that they will be dropping? Or if you would like to switch for my weekend day (Saturday, January 26), please please let me know!

Anyone interviewing next Tuesday Nov 20th?! I hope interviewing this late doesn't mean we go straight to waitlist....

Congratulations @thewaitinggame1! Any advice for someone on the wait/hold list this round?

On my post-interview hold letter, it says that the re-review date is in December. Any current students know what specific day it is going to be?

The waiting game starts. I'm willing the clock to be at 5 so that the calls can start rolling in. Scary to think there is a group of doctors sitting in a room right now deciding the future course of my life . . .

Damn automated call from an 859 area code ... got my heart racing a little.

Oh god that would be terrible. I'm sitting here trying so hard not to think about it, and yet here I am creeping to see when someone gets the first call!

This might not help with your anxiety, but I know a few people who were accepted here this cycle and did not receive a phone call - just a letter a few days later. So don't panic if you don't receive a call!

If they met today, I'm pretty sure most people get their calls tomorrow then. I emailed the office of admissions asking two Fridays ago at 12pm out of nerves and I got a reply within an hour on my status. Eventually Robin had called me around 4 just to confirm that I had been aware of my acceptance. My interviewer called too but couldn't get ahold of me until Monday for some reason. The admissions office is very friendly and quick to inform you if you email or call them in the morning!

Called the office this morning...rejected. 3.42 cGPA, 3.64 sGPA and 28P

My interview is scheduled for December 11 and I'm looking to potentially trade with someone who has the December 15 date. If you are on that day and interested in interviewing earlier, please PM me. We would probably have to go through Robin for it because there are people waitlisted on both days. Thanks

I think they said December 6th at my interview.

Anyone want to take my Dec. 11th interview date? I'm likely withdrawing my application due to another acceptance.

Edit: or will the waitlisted people get it automatically?
