I checked some of the old UM threads on SDN for financial aid information. I've heard a bunch of different information on scholarships, including earlier in this thread. Does anyone have general information on scholarships? Like, how many, for what reason, and any examples? In my case, I'm out of state wondering about bumps to in state tuition. Does the scholarship app need to be turned in to receive merit scholarships?

So whats Miller's deal on interview invites? Is there a set day every week or two they send them out? Are they still coming out? Do they normally take forever?

I was complete probably mid october. Was hoping I would have heard back by now.

Same here. I met a few people at an interview and none of them had heard from UM and all were instate. I have a feeling they are becoming wayyyyy more OOS-friendly.

Anywho, I'm sure the invites are far from over! According to last year's thread, there were invites going out pretty late in season. Good luck :luck: and have patience!!

What's the latest UM still gives out Invites? I was complete late August and haven't heard anything back 👎

Oh man. I'm praying to the Miller gods for an invite... Please, oh please, pick me!

Do you think I can tempt the Admissions Committee with some of this leftover pumpkin pie? It's the very last piece! And I think there's even a little whipped cream left in the canister...

I'll add some delicious homemade holiday cookies alongside your pie if they send you an ii and change my status from "alternate" to "accepted"! Haha oh, if only... 🙁

Yay finally a little love from UM 🙂 Complete October

Can any of you tell me if you submitted after 10/21 and got an interview? Thanks!

I have not heard anything since I interviewed on 10/22. No acceptance, no waitlist, no rejection. Nothing. I called admissions again and they said they have not reviewed my application at committee. Hopefully next week I get some kind of decision. They told me the wait can vary from person to person. So keep the faith everyone, I still am but have decided to submit more applications this week that I hadnt.

Application complete on 10/6 and no word yet on an II. Anyone know if Miami gives pre-interview rejections?

Not sure about the pre-interview rejections, but I definitely feel your pain.

😱 <-- Although this is an "eek" face designed, I presume, to represent the feeling of "fear" or even "surprise," I see it as the best option on this forum for the representation of "stress" and "pain" (that is why I have chosen to include it here). Clearly the emoticon-he (or she) is hyperventilating and not getting enough O2 because he is, clearly and hypoxically, blue; I don't know what to say about the lack of eyelids, but I'm sure that his sclera must be wrinkled they are so dry. That would definitely stress me out. Now, upon closer inspection, this caricature looks to be part goat--do you see those horizontal, slit-shaped pupils? This is a bit disturbing, but I'll bet he has stellar peripheral depth-perception.

At any rate, point is this: I do feel your pain and I don't think there is an emoticon option on this forum that adequately conveys the extent to which I feel "the struggle." Hopefully we'll hear, one way or the other, soon... Come on, Miami! Love us!

This may have already been mentioned on this thread, but does anyone know if Miami is receptive to "in the area" updates?

For those accepted, how long did it take to receive your acceptance letter in the mail and how long did it take to hear back on scholarships? I was accepted via email in the 11/30 batch, but haven't heard since.

I got my scholarship about a week later (via snail mail), and the acceptance letter came about 2 weeks after the initial phone call. But strangely, both letters were dated the day I got the call.

Same here.

If only there was an emoticon that accurately captured these past six months! Show us the love Miami. I think I might actually send an update letter pretty soon. Anyone know if Miami is "receptive" to that sort of thing? Sorry if it's been asked on this thread before!

Fingers crossed!!!

they acknowledged receipt of one from me but havent gotten anything more since...

In my acceptance email it said to send an email and letter to the admissions office to accept our spot in next years class. Do we wait until we receive the acceptance letter in the mail to do this (which apparently takes 2 weeks to get)? Or maybe send an email to the office now and snail mail after the acceptance comes in the mail. It seems a little vague....

I e-mailed back right away and then sent the snail mail after I got the acceptance letter. I called the admissions office to ask about this several weeks ago, they said if you send the e-mail response accepting the spot as long as you send the snail mail letter at some point it should be fine.

Edit: I just saw this same question was asked above...sorry for the repeat.

has anyone paid the $100 nonrefundable deposit yet? do you know what the deal is on this?

Does UM require transcript updates if on the waitlist? Does anyone know? Thanks!

hey guys- so I just interviewed 12/10. I was wondering when I could expect to hear from them? And I believe it would be a phone call? Does anyone know the average time between interview and hearing from the committee? I was also wondering if I interviewed late there relative to when they started interviews... I guess to gauge about how full the class is... also for those of you accepted... do you mind sharing your stats?

Any info would be helpful.

Thank you so much in advance!

and does UM really give out about 300 offers and interviews only 500 people? that seems like good odds....

I was accepted 11/14 and interviewed 10/22. You hear by phone call around 5 pm on Wednesdays

OOS 3.8, 30Q

Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any other questions!

I interviewed 10/19 and was accepted 10/31. It all depends on when the adcom meets, which is usually every other Wednesday (not sure how the holidays might affect this). Stats are 3.9/36 IS. Good luck and feel free to PM me also 🙂

Interviewed 11/12, accepted via email 11/28 (no phone call).
3.65cGPA/3.9sGPA/32R/OOS (in state/OOS doesn't seem to matter to them - except for tuition ;( ). Likewise, feel free to PM me if any ?s.

Can any current students discuss opportunities for research and shadowing at Bascom Palmer (I'm interested in ophtho). UM seems to provide medical students with excellent research and clinical opportunities in most fields. But I'm curious if students have much access to Bascom, given its elite reputation.

There are tons of opportunities for students to do research in any of the fields. We have an awesome guidance counselor who you can meet with who will give you a list of contacts of professors who are doing research in each of the fields. I also have a classmate (1st year) who is interested in optho as well and I know he observes surgeries at Bascom and takes patient histories and practices his eye exams as well. Once the facebook group is opened up at the end of december you will have most of your questions answered. As of right now, enjoy the free time you have before school. If anyone has any questions, PM me and I will try to respond to them as best as I can.

Congratulations! is this the first time that you hear something from them or were you put on the alternate list before. I'm only asking because I interviewed on October 22nd and I have still not heard a thing. Thank you for any response you have.

Thanks! I was initially put on the alternate list on 11/15.

I'm in the same boat! I interviewed 10/26 and have not heard a thing since (acceptance/wait list). I called last week and all they said was my application is currently under consideration for MD and MD/MPH. This is by far my top choice and I've been freaking out every other Wednesday 🙁

I interviewed on 10/12 and heard NOTHING from them untill 11/15. I was supposed to hear back on 10/31 and multiple people from my interview group heard that day, but I was neither acceptred, rejected, nor waitlisted. Then I got accepted on 11/15 when I had all but given up and ended getting a scholarship a week later as well. I think it just depends on when your interviewer is available to attend an adcom meeting, so at minimum give it 2 weeks to hear back, but know that it could be up to/more than a month.

Edit: 3.97cGPA, 3.98sGPA, 34 mcat

I think its so unfair they make some of us wait longer then others, but oh well! I guess we just have to keep waiting, at least it we know its not one of us personally, its the way they just do things.

Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone has applied/been accepted despite lower grades (with a decent MCAT) after attending a SMP/MS program? And if you dont mind, which program and what was your scores? Thanks!

Have those that have been accepted heard anything from the admissions office since receiving their initial acceptance email/letter? Most schools I've applied to have contacted me again after I accepted their offer, confirming my place in their class. Its been about two weeks since I sent in my response to Miami but still haven't heard anything else from them. Is it the same for everyone else?

Thanks!

You probably won't hear much from the admissions office until second look time (Feb/March). As of right now there isn't much you need to do but the class of 2016 is putting together a welcome packet and other helpful things and will be inviting accepted students to the facebook group (to answer any questions you might have for current students) at the end of December.

Congratulations again to all of you who have been accepted! And good luck to those who are still waiting. To give hope to those still waiting, they continue accepting students until late May/early June (which is when I and a couple of other students were accepted). Don't lose hope and every couple months or so continue to show interest.

Does anyone know if we should type our update letters in the form of an actual letter? it seems kind of pointless since most of the time the schools seem to want them through email anymay

When will the next round of IIs come out? After Xmas?
