Is lecture attendance required? If not, is it possible to essentially not go to class during the first two years, once anatomy is done? Also, how many weeks is the anatomy module?

Thanks!

I believe they have been professionally recording lectures for some time now. It seemed very popular with the students I talked to!

For people who have had an interview:
What is the format? What kind of questions?
THANKS!!!
👍

Mine was a little different... She actually had a list of questions she "had to ask me". First I had to list all my activities/work/volunteering etc for her - think like rehashing their secondary. She also had a few specific questions about my accomplishments from her list, like describe a time when... Etc. And then a few ethical/situational questions.

Also... While they told us our interviewers already knew about us (we were told that they had been advocates for us to get an interview), my interviewer said she hadn't previously read or seen my file. Weird.

So... Interviews vary.

I don't think so. I interviewed right before Christmas Break, and I was told the earliest I'd hear back was January 16th.

yeah maybe it was the 16th that he said...don't remember lol

Can a current student explain how a typical day is structured for the first two years? Someone in another thread mentioned Miami as being "traditional curriculum" so I'm not sure what that means. Thanks!

Are interview invites by phone or email? Sorry if it's been asked before I couldn't find it in the last couple of pages.

Hey, so a normal day consists of class from about 9-3pm with classes determined based on different "modules". In each module are classes that are related to one another (such as immunology, microbio, virology). In the afternoon on some week days we also have PBL type learning groups to discuss material we learned about during lectures.

The traditional curriculum the person was talking about relates to the organ modules which we start after 1st year. We go more in depth for a couple weeks each on each organ such as cardiology (5 weeks), pulmonology (4 weeks), GI (4 weeks) ect. A couple other schools just incorporate them into systems and do them all at the same time. We have experts from each of these specific fields, which you can ask questions about the specialty as well which I feel like is much better.

Tests are taken on paper and are case based questions (which are similar to step exam questions). ex- A 25 y/o male comes to your office with ...

Within my 1st month, I was already interviewing patients and within 2 months I knew how to do most of the physical exam (which you practice during health fairs the school organizes). There are also many hands on clinics and opportunities that I have taken advantage of that allow me to assess a patient with the supervision of a 3rd year and present a case to the attending physician.

I think I'll have a nervous breakdown before the next committee meeting!

Hey guys! I'm a 4th year - feel free to ask any questions on here and I'll try to answer what I can...

how late does Miami interview? and are they receptive to a Letter of Interest? I'm definitely interested in UMiami, and i've been complete there since around September, with no news back yet. thanks for your help.

Our last interview date is the beginning of April. If you are very interested it can't hurt to write a letter of interest. We have a very strong applicant pool this year, but keep your hopes up. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions.

I don't think they matter too much ...

AH-MAY-ZING! I was certainly not expecting an interview invite from this school, let alone on a Saturday. Time to get my fancy knickers out of the closet--Miami, here I come!

I'm your classic non-trad applicant and have very average stats for this school. Lots of unique work history and ECs. OOS as well. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been invited to interview here, but a part of me thinks it might have been my tenacity; there was never a long stretch of time that went by wherein I did not let U of M know how awesome I thought their school was and what I've been up to. I was complete mid-September and, other than e-mail confirmations of my photograph and updates, did not hear from them until today.

I apologize for the cryptic reply, but hope that it at least helps a wee bit.

I completed the secondary for Miami late december (i know, pretty late, but might as well try!). I'm hoping to get an II during the next batch that will be sent from Miller.

Have a question to those who have gotten in already, or have been interviewed, or are familiar with the admissions:

Would an OOS, with 3.68c/3.65s/32L and strong EC's be in the running?

Anywho, thanks in advance to all who help!!!

Crossing my fingers for this school.

Anyone else hear anything? I haven't gotten any kind of decision yet...

I'm not sure today was a decisions day...

I had a dream that I got an II from here... then I woke up.

I have similar stats and no II yet. Complete in July. Anything is possible but it's hard to speculate on your chances with that limited information. It's really a crap shoot.

Is it 9-3 Monday through Friday? For some reason I was thinking Miami spent less time in the classroom. How many days a week are the PBL ssesions usually? I know its relative, but do most students find time to do research, ECs, rest, etc. Thanks.

Maybe I'm outdated but it's definitely not 9-3 in second year

This perspective is from a 1st year, I dont know about 2nd year, but some days are less and they give us plenty of time to do research, ECs, IM sports, volunteering and such.

PBLs (labeled as group sessions on schedule) are maybe once a week. Attached is our schedule for this week (an exam week). Screen Shot 2013-01-27 at 11.41.37 AM.png

THERE ARE OPTIONAL REVIEW SESSIONS IN THE MORNINGS (for people with questions on the material). Most people do not attend these.
In addition, all lectures are recorded so you can watch lectures on double speed and cut down on the time needed to watch lectures and do other thigns with your free time. (MOST CLASSES ARE NOT REQUIRED)
