I just clicked "continue" at the bottom of the page after making the formatting changes, and it brought me back to the main menu. I couldn't figure out if that was sufficient either, so I emailed them...and then I got a 2nd "confirmation email" from them today.

I don't know if it was necessary to contact them, but that's what I did. To be honest I'm really not 100% sure what I'm doing here....I'm just trying to make sure my applications are correct while not annoying admissions offices. 😳

Thanks! I just e-mailed them.....As if secondaries weren't stressful enough.

Did they take long between the e-mail you sent to send the second submission email?

Worst thing about Miami's secondary is probably that they don't have "save and continue" button.

Question about the 2 week deadline - in the secondary instruction page, it says "You will be able to return to your application for 14 days after it is saved."

I want to complete other secondaries before this one and am not sure about being able to finish this one in two weeks - if I don't open the application until I'm ready to work on this, it won't start counting down the 14 days now, right?

Basically their secondary application goes through an order system. When you fill in all the blanks you are allowed to essentially put the secondary into the "shopping cart" you can continue to edit it there for up to two weeks before I its automatically removed. Basically I just finished everything on my computer pasted everything in and submitted. The two week thing is just referring how long you can edit it before submission on their system before it purges it. Otherwise there secondary is just a simple webpage you can view everything without logging in.

I know UM accepts AP credit for their pre req, but what about IB credit?

Apparently, they don't accept IB credit. wow..

omg i just about had a heart attackkkkkk i thought i just missed that there was a two week deadline :/ not cool man!! haha

phew

ps. when it says for the chronology to write a "brief" description,

how brief is brief?

are we talkin 1 sentence tops, resume style

or are we talkin a paragraph, like the amount from amcas?

or something in the middle?

im leaning towards the 1 sentence, maybe two tops. why do they really want to read this many responses anyway??? hehe esp. since its all on amcas already.

this secondary is def my last to turn in during this first round... hehe but im def. making progress!!

urgh thats so frustrating 🙁 similar thing happened to me about my APs from two schools. you could try to contact them and see. I told them my situation and since I did another writing intensive class (instead of English), and upper level Chem they said that that was satisfactory!

It can't hurt to call or email them!

Yeah this secondary is just a get in and get it done kind of deal

The good thing about it though is that it covers such a wide range of topics, some of which are bound to come up on other schools' essays.

Really excited for Miami! Had a chance to go there for undergrad, and I have always loved the campus. I also have a ton of friends there, so hopefully Miami will show me some love

I finally finished this damn secondary! This was by far the longest secondary ever. Will submit tomorrow after checking it over.

so for the descriptions of the chronology... Anyone??

Are you just copying from AMCAS?

Please someone respond 🙂

^I made mine 1-2 sentences each. And I definitely changed it up a bit from what I wrote on AMCAS.

Mine varied some questions were a few sentences, others a paragraph. And I did mention some things from the primary but with rewording and I included some new details.

thanks guys for the input!!

im a little torn cuz like for clinical i have 13 things (im a non trad). maybe ill combine the shadowing, which is like 4. but still that a TON of things to write about. i guess ill try to do short and sweet and vary a bit from amcas.

SUBMITTED! And just some fyi, you can save on the this app before you "certify" it with your CC! You just have to log back on, there's instructions on the webpage.

omg this secondary is taking forever hehehe 🙂

they are gonna have a lot of work on their hands!

Just got an email saying they received my secondary and successfully linked it to my AMCAS. Let the review begin!

I submitted on 7/17, but according to last year's thread people got this e-mail a day after submitting. When did you guys submit?

I got the complete email yesterday! Submitted on the 18th

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the email went to my spam. Check your junk mail to see if its there and you haven't received it yet.

errday im hustling in yayo

Hey everyone. Im a bit confused about the first essay question, clinical experience that influenced your decision. Does that mean something personal like a sick family member or does that mean something you saw during volunteering, shadowing, etc. as an undergrad?

What did you guys put, I dont need specifics. I just want to make sure I answer it correctly.

I just wrote about a shadowing experience I had that was pivotal to my decision to pursue medicine. I think it's open ended and probably should be reworded to, "through any clinical experiences, what made you decide to pursue medicine?"

I had this same question, and I read on last year's thread (I'm pretty sure it was last year's at least) that it was okay to talk about either a personal or a volunteering/shadowing experience. You can probably find it if you scroll through that thread, it was in the first few pages if I recall correctly.

That's just what I read, and I hope it was correct because I wrote about a personal experience.

No I really think they want something clinical related like shadowing or volunteer or work experience

I wrote about shadowing a surgeon and how the OR felt like a very appropriate place for me.

Thanks for your replies. Im not sure what to do. I think I might email them, but I dont want them to think Im crazy! lol.

The personal story to me makes sense, cause thats what drove you to do medicine. But if its experience you did after deciding, it did cement your initial desire.

Thanks!

I don't think what you talk about matters as much as how you say it. It's all about telling a story about what you learned and how it changed you.

I had a long travel story but it was about being confronted by a grizzly at Glacier National Park.

great.....now I feel like my travel story was boring in comparison, there were no bears in my story 🙁 haha

Well if it's any consolation, the rest of my application was pretty boring. I had to give them one interesting reason to interview me.

From UM's website:

"We no longer give preference to Florida residents because the Miller School of Medicine is a private medical school and we no longer receive funding from the State of Florida legislature."

Did this just change this year? I remember hearing about budget cuts not too long ago. I guess this could significantly lower the percentage of in-state residents who are accepted to UM.

Why the hell are they asking me to re-state my entire primary application? This secondary is such a pain the the ass
