To quote my post earlier. I don't know how accurate this will be, but I doubt they initially accept far more OOS spots than they can actually matriculate. Therefore I would expect there to be at least a good amount of wait list movement even for out of state applicants. Especially considering only 1/3 of out of state applicants matriculate given their acceptance.

Unless they accept around 95 OOS applicants knowing that most will not matriculate. I brought up Wisconsin because they have similar numbers and their process involves extending offers to a pool of OOS knowing that most will not matriculate. You might be right, but I know of a few schools do over-enroll, and typically it's double the matriculation number.

From what I've read Madison has separate IS and OOS WLs. The OOS however, gets no movement. They don't extend offers to one OOS applicant on the WL when another OOS withdraws. Simply put it's not a 1:1 ratio. Like I said before, no OOS applicants got in off the WL last year at WI.

I realize that MN only has one list and that's why I was curious if they have a similar policy to Wisconsin and essentially shaft the OOS WLers by giving them high ranks (high in the sense of low priority). Nothing I can do now but wait. I'm more curious about this than I am worried or paranoid.

So when will the wait list ranking come out?

Quick question: can anyone make a parking ramp recommendation for the interview? Thanks!

Before going into the parking ramp, see if you can find free street parking on Delaware, Erie, or Ontario Streets. Its only a couple of blocks extra.

Talking about parking ramps....

This crazy cold weather has prompted me to decide to get a parking pass for medical school haha, waiting for the bus for ~30 minutes in -20 is ridiculous. I've rode the bus all through undergrad, but on days like these it's just not worth it!

Sorry, I'm not sure. To be honest, that sounds quite disingenuous of Wisconsin.

Totally agree. That was per a UW resident on the Wisconsin thread. Not sure how accurate it is.

Assuming you're selected in the lottery... 😀

Lot C-79--best lot of the bunch!

Anyone know about the facebook group? I tried to find it but couldn't. According to the email there is supposed to be one?

I've never participated in the parking lottery, is it pretty difficult to get a spot?

No, everyone I know who has entered the lottery has always gotten a spot, and that's for undergraduate. Graduate students have more of an advantage, and don't need to re-enter the lottery for spring semester. They can simply renew their parking contract from the fall. Undergraduates do not have this luxury and may find themselves without a parking spot in the spring if they don't get a spot from the lottery.

It's on the admitted students page, which is linked in one of the emails... Apparently they aren't accepting requests to join the group yet, because I've been in limbo for a while now, haha...

Actually, that's not quite true. I didn't get one last semester as a graduate student. It's not easier for graduate students to get a pass, but you are correct in that the get to renew their spot. The odds of getting a spot are about 2:1.

The only hope if you don't get drawn in the lottery is to be at the parking office in the first few hours of the first day they release the remaining spots people didn't claim (first-come, first-served).

has anyone heard ANYTHING this week, good or bad, acceptance or waitlisted??? It's been quiet.

I got wait listed this week 🙁. I was really hoping for an acceptance, but I could only hope for a good wait list # now.

Does anyone know when the ranking comes out? from previous experience?

Sorry to hear that. At least there is still hope! Are you IS or OOS?

Hahaha. Screw that! I'm keeping my apartment(even though its a bit of a financial stretch) because it is literally on the 2 bus line which will hopefully drop off in front of Moos again! Can't wait! Did you accept your acceptance then? I did!!

I found it off of the twitter page, but I don't think my request to be in it has been accepted yet. Lets have a class of 2017 hangout!!

I am in IS. The funny thing is - I got accepted to another state school and got wait listed by my own state school. I wish it was the other way around.

Yeah that's weird. I work with a physician who was IS (Minnesota) and was rejected by the U but outright accepted by Iowa. The application cycles are just so unpredictable.

I'd get together with my future classmates!

For Duluth or TC?

I'm in the same boat with as you, Mr.Z. Was especially bummed because the U of M is my alma mater, and my parents medical alma mater. Makes me think they must have really, really not liked me during the interview 🙁🙁🙁🙁

Perhaps we can have a little pity party together

Got my acceptance letter and I got scholarship for in-state tuition 🙂 😀 😀
Minnesota is good to me! This doesn't even feel real haha!

I'm sorry to hear that 🙁 but since you're IS, you have a good chance to hear back soon right? 🙂

That's rough. It looks like you have a really strong app and you're IS. I'm sure you'll get in off the WL or you'll get into one of those other awesome schools you interviewed at!

Well I guess I am an IS, so whatever scholarship they offered must be on that. Idk my mom got my mail and was very vague. Mostly just screaming out of excitement 🙂

I really hope so. The chances for IS are good compared to OS, so I hope they accept me before they release the wait list ranking.

The U is my alma mater as well, so it is really disappointing to be wait listed 🙁.
Hopefully we will be accepted before they release they wait list - or we will get a good wait list #.

Interviewing next week! Could anyone tell me more about the interview day, structure/feel of the actual interviews? What do people mean by scripted?

Light snacks, coffee and other beverages provided.

10:10 AM Morning interview with a member of the Medical School Admissions Committee or Medical School faculty.

11:00 AM Attend a second year class/lecture. (This activity is optional and dependent on exams and labs that may be scheduled.)

12:00 – 1:30 Lunch and tour by Admissions Ambassadors (Year 2 Medical Students).

1:30 Afternoon interview conducted by a Year 4 Medical Student. (Location TBD). Interview day is complete after your interview with an MS4 student and you are free to go, typically around 2:30 or 3:00.

Actual interviews really depend on who your faculty member and student are. They are evaluating a specific set of characteristics, which can be found on their website.

Be prepared for 45-60 min interviews. Interviews at other schools for me were 20-30 min when there were two. It had been 45 min in my first, and the MD was like, "So, what questions do you have for me?" I had no idea how much time we had left.

My first interview was almost completely a matter of intense Q&A with little convo. My second was far more conversational.

Hope that made at least the actual interviews a little clearer--good luck!

My physician interview lasted around 45 minutes and was very very relaxed/conversational. The MS4 interview was the same way, but it was only 25-30 minutes long. Good luck!

Zebra,

My physician interview was very brief, ~20-25 mins, and the MS4 interview was very structured (she printed off a sheet of questions).

Anyways, both were laid back and they were nice. If I remember correctly, there was a lot of sitting around and waiting... and we did attend some of a lecture which was interesting.

Good luck at your interview!

The U of M TC med students do have a life outside of med school! The first and second years put on a med school themed musical the other night. You can check out the full musical on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKULbJ9zTdg

I was impressed with how well done and funny it was. There are some very talented people here. Of course, there are many UMN med school inside jokes within the play. And as a heads up, there are a few vulgarities and sexual innuendos as well, but otherwise it is very PG. It's worth a look if you have an hour of free time!

I'm sure this has been addressed at some point but does TC have open file interviews or are they blind to some/all of your application?

do they commonly do this? Just curious if anyone has a for sure answer.
